Gareth - That was very interesting. I'm just starting to look into Softr now but could you briefly explain why Softr would be worth the investment vs. just using Airtable forms directly for users to enter new data?
Hi Gareth, how is it going, great video as usual. I'm new to Softr, literally working with it since yesterday to make a frontend for a client for an educational project. We have an Airtable base and I'm struggling with the following issue; We are making a portal in Softr so teachers can enter and view some info related to their personal profile, their curses, classes, students and so on, they should also be capable to create and edit quizzes (forms that students will be uploading at the end of the classes), problem is how I link all of this, each quiz would be linked to 8 questions and at the same time each question linked to 4 pre-made answers. How can I use Softr in order to let teachers create and edit quizes to fulfill this objective? We have team plan in Airtable, team plan and Zapier and professional plan in Softr. Thanks in advance,
I'm not sure if this is the right fit. Softr forms are built by folks with builder access to Softr. However in your case, I don't think you want your teachers to be builders! Instead, I imagine they would be users of your Softr app. Similarly, students would also be users, although they would be distinctly different than teachers and have different permissions, views, etc. I can't think of a way to allow teachers to automatically create forms to present to students. I think the teachers will either need to share the questions with an admin user to have the form created, or perhaps consider another option.
@@GarethPronovost Actually I solved the creating part of the forms (more kind of quizes really) in a beautiful way, now I'm struggling with how the students can send their answers while collecting them on Airtable
Hey Gareth, thanks a lot. This is incredibly interesting. Do you know if i can use the hidden fields to add infos regarding the subscription a customer has made? Let's suppose a customer goes from free member to paid member I would than need 3 columns populated on airtable for that user - Paid Member? --> Yes - Subscription starts: 06-08-2023 - Subscription ends: 06-08-2024 Thanks a lot for your time! :)
@@GarethPronovost Really? Which of the 2 would you suggest? I don't know how to set up the 2nd one :) Thanks a lot for your time Gareth, your tutorials are so helpful!
@@marcopettenon993 if you're building the fields in Airtable (without hidden fields in the form) you can capture the Created Time - this is metadata for when the record came into existence. Then you can calculate the expiration date with a formula.
@@GarethPronovost Hello. Thanks once again. I managed to add a "Created Time" for the free user when a new record on Airtable is created, but still couldn't find a way to bring in infos regarding payments made on Stripe:( Do you know how could i do it via Zapier? I tried but the “start date” field that comes from Stripe is not actually a date, but has a weird format. If i don’t use Zapier or Make, The only alternative would be checking the subscription status directly on Stripe? Does Softr at least know when the subscription period ends? Thanks a lot for your super kind help.
Absolutely, although the simpler solution here is to EDIT the existing record. You wouldn't do this through a form, but instead using the edit record feature of Softr.
Hi Gareth, thank you so much for this video. In line with this video, I have a question: I would like to be able to send data into airtable as well as mailerlite at the same time. I've tried and it doesn't seem to be possible now or is it? I'm having to send users to a subdomain powered by wordpress where I then use a wordpress form plugin. The plugin allows multiple actions upon submit. It sends natively to mailerlite but I have to use pabbly connect or zapier to send to airtable. It does both at the same time, so I don't have to require users to do 2 steps. But the pabbly connect / Zapier route requires extra monthly payments for the integration. I also have to pay for the subdomain hosting and the form plugin. Can you please confirm from Softr that they will include the ability for softr forms to carry out multiple actions at once upon submit, please?
The button can only have one action, but that action can be a Zapier automation trigger. Then the automation in Zapier can then send the data multiple places. You will still need a Zapier subscription, however.
@@GarethPronovost Thank you for your reply. In wordpress, you have form plugins which allow multiple actions upon submit. For instance, upon submit, send an email, send data to mailerlite, end data to airtable, etc. All of these natively done by the form plugin without consuming any tasks or using any zaps which you have to pay for monthly. If I am giving out free ebooks and advertising this on facebook, and I have 2000 signups per day, and I am using Zapier, my Zapier bill will skyrocket. However, if Softr forms natively allow multiple actions, I pay nothing further than my monthly subscription. Is it possiblw to pass this to Softr as a feature to be implemented in the next iteration of their forms in order to help their customers save money on integrations, please?
@@francisokech they have a features request page at Softr and they don't really great job of implementing requests from the community. I'd suggest starting there!
Hi Gareth, let me ask you a question about Softr vs. Stacker. It's obvious that Softr is on a roll re releasing so many blocks and functionalities, and Stacker seems to just recently also started releasing new features faster than previously. If the objective is purely the development of internal tools or business apps, does Stacker still have the edge in how it's quickly allows to start with business tools in mind, or the free-form blank-canvas of Softr has enough templates and ready to use blocks, that has made Softr equally fast in setting up internal-tools and process flows like Stacker? Want to hear your updated comments on this. Thanks.
Hi Khuned, my current opinion is that Softr is better for internal tools as well as external tools. As you say, they are releasing new features faster, as well as having greater flexibility when you set up your app.

Yes, this is something you can prefill. Alternatively, you can use formulas in Airtable to calculate this based on when the user submits the form.
