The haters will probably shrivel up because of how good it is
It truly blows your mind, eh?
you don't see it, you feel it! this music is truly good
Ahhhh, I see what you did there. Ayyyyy
Such a haunting theme for the most powerful artifact in the franchise.
The Sanakara Stones/Grail can restore life
The Crystal Skull grants knowledge
The Ark of the Covenant is apocalyptic
Truely a godlike artifact. One not ment for mortals
@@TK--ch9jl Even in The Bible, calamity always befell those who tried to take it for a trophy.
Truly an intimidating object
@@daustin8888 certainly a calamitious object. Theres one story where a man stops it from falling over, but he dies because he touches it. It is not meant for us at all
@@KXNGROB95 i didn't know that. Very intriguing
@@KXNGROB95 The people your thinking of are Levites. In a way they are the thirteenth tribe of Israel.
This is because Joseph had two sons, one was Ephraim (Levi) and the other was Manasseh.
The Levites were not given big pieces of land like the other tribes because God was their portion.
I admit that when I heard this song in Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, a cry of joy escaped me in the cinema.
A few notes of it can be heard in The Last Crusade when Indy and Elsa are underneath the Venice library.
[Encountering a painting of the Ark of the Covenant]

If you are Born Again, ready yourself for this scene is more pertinent for these End Times than people would know.
@@timeoftheknightwatchman1662 I’ve always discussed that with my dad. The book of revelation is hope to the follower of the the one way, truth and life Jesus Christ, but a nightmare to the enemies of the living God. Even so come, lord Jesus.

This movie got me interested in history
This movie made history.

I personally think this is one of the best, most versatile themes John Williams has ever written. I don’t know how he accomplished this but on the one hand, this theme feels very mystical, mysterious, it immediately peaks your curiosity and interest, it also feels ancient and ethereal, it fills you with a sense of absolute wonder and excitement at certain parts but on the other hand, it’s also quite intimidating, ominous, powerful, ancient in a both beautiful and menacing way like it’s something that shouldn’t be messed with or disturbed, it’s haunting, almost like a warning. How Williams managed to capture both sides of the Ark in this film in one small motif I will never understand and it’s incredible.
Couldn't agree more. It is an amazing work. Astonishingly accurate in what it is trying to depict. The fear, and majesty of the Holy One.
Awe and terror are but a step away from each other.
"Doctor Jones, you and I and simply passing through history. The Ark? The Ark *IS* history..."
When the Ark was opened, Belloq and the Nazis were history.
john Williams will be remembered with the likes of Mozart and beethoven

Agreed
This theme much like the Ark itself is mysterious, alluring and scary. It's a good combination of mystery and horror.
I always liked how the Ark's power is foreshadowed earlier in the movie when they ask Indy what is supposed to come out of the Ark.
"Lightning. Fire....Power of God or something"
it's also foreshadowed by some form of freak weather occuring whenever they find a clue. whe marion pulled out the staff headpiece, it was a gust of wind indoors. when they figure out what it says, it's a long bellowing wind.
when they find the well of souls, it's a thunderstorm.

romans may have melted it down
yeah, it's in a crate marked "do not open" in a warehouse somewhere, indiana jones is actually nonfiction and a documentary of real events (this comment is satire)
It's very possible that the Babylonians captured it and melted the gold down.
@@hemiolaguy It's certainly possible. I've heard the Coptic Christians hold it and have sworn to defend it from all until the time of Revelation.
It was made of wood overlaid with gold, so it might not exist anymore.
Edit: Relevant bible passage, exodus 25:10-25:11
“And they shall make an ark of acacia wood; two and a half cubits shall be its length, a cubit and a half its width, and a cubit and a half its height. And you shall overlay it with pure gold, inside and out you shall overlay it, and shall make on it a molding of gold all around."
A theme for the Old Testament.
I considered it a theme for Judaism and the Israelites.

The headpiece of the Staff of Ra warned them all: Do not disturb the Ark of the God of the Hebrews. The Egyptians *knew* this. Just how utterly terrified they were of that deity was proven by the piles of human sacrifices that filled the Well of Souls in a desperate attempt to appease Him and keep Tanis safe. It wasn't enough. The Nazis were so arrogant that they didn't believe that warning applied to them. They were wrong.

Colonel Musgrove: The Lost Ark?
Indiana: Yeah, the Ark of the Covenant. The chest the Hebrews used to carry the Ten Commandments around in.
Major Eaton: Alright now, what do you mean the Ten Commandments, you're talking about THE Ten Commandments?
Indiana: Yes, the actual Ten Commandments. The original stone tablets that Moses brought down out of Mount Horeb and smashed, if you believe in that sort of thing. Didn't you guys ever go to Sunday School? Look, the Hebrews took the broken pieces and put them into the Ark. When they settled in Canaan, they put the Ark in a place called The Temple of Solomon, where it stayed for many years, till all of a sudden... whoosh, it was gone.
Major Eaton: Where?
Indiana: Nobody knows where or when.
3:28 I don't know what it is, but the German motif is actually a very beautiful cue. It has this feeling of grandeur to it. I guess it represents hubris. Sure it's grandeur but it's grandeur that was taken and not earned.
Totally agree.
That’s my fav part
I loved hearing it in LC and KCS.
I love its also heard in The Crusade
This music says we shouldn't mess with forces beyond our comprehension
This piece of music always gives me goosebumps. It's really well crafted.
That's John Williams for ya.
What's crazy to me is the fact it isn't 100% proven the ark was destroyed... so it could possibly still exist
And if it does, do you really want to know?
It wasn't proven to even have existed.
@@thejackmobtv193 Only if you don't believe the accounts in the Bible/Torah.
Besides, even if there is no proof now, that does not mean it didn't exist. So your point is a mute one.
Now to be fair, if it were proven the ark was real, it would not prove that God is real. It would only increase the likelihood.
@@Servo_M I said that the Ark could've never existed, not that the Ark couldn't have existed. The lack of evidence to confirm it's existence shows that it most likely to have never existed. It's like accusing someone of murder without hard evidence. Witness accounts can't always be trusted, people lie.

The more I listen to “Saturn: The Bringer of Old Age,” from Gustav Holst’s _The Planets_ suite, the more I hear the influence he had on Williams.

The theme that john Williams composed for the ark of the covenant is nothing short of brilliant! The theme sounds mysterious beautiful and hauntingly terrifying!
And there went out fire from the Lord, and devoured them, and they died before the Lord. (Lev. 10:2)

Not Last Crusade in my opinion. Where the Arc of the Covenant theme is eerie and imposing, the Holy Grail theme is beautiful and inspiring. Both themes are amazing in their own way. I always wondered if Pandora's Box was just the Ark wreaking havoc in the greek world after the destruction of the Temple of Jerusalem.
Interesting theory.
1 Samuel 4:3-7
And when the people had come into the camp, the elders of Israel said, “Why has the LORD defeated us today before the Philistines? Let us bring the ark of the covenant of the LORD from Shiloh to us, that when it comes among us it may save us from the hand of our enemies.” So the people sent to Shiloh, that they might bring from there the ark of the covenant of the LORD of hosts, who dwells between the cherubim. And the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, were there with the ark of the covenant of God. And when the ark of the covenant of the LORD came into the camp, all Israel shouted so loudly that the earth shook. Now when the Philistines heard the noise of the shout, they said, “What does the sound of this great shout in the camp of the Hebrews mean?” Then they understood that the ark of the LORD had come into the camp. So the Philistines were afraid, for they said, “God has come into the camp!” And they said, “Woe to us! For such a thing has never happened before.
Don't mess with God.
"And David and all the house of Israel were celebrating before the Lord, with zsongs3 and lyres and harps and tambourines and castanets and cymbals. 6 And when they came to the threshing floor of Nacon, Uzzah put out his hand to the ark of God and took hold of it, for the oxen stumbled. 7 And the anger of the Lord was kindled against Uzzah, and God struck him down there because of his error, and he died there beside the ark of God."

God was very precise in declaring what the size of the ark and Noah's ark should be in cubits. Why so precise?
Divine Proportion.
And the things recorded of the sacred ark signify the properties of the world of thought, which is hidden and closed to the many.
And those golden figures, each of them with six wings, signify either the 'two bears', as some will have it, or rather the two hemispheres. And the name cherubim meant "much knowledge." But both together have twelve wings, and by the zodiac and time, which moves on it, point out the world of sense. It is of them, I think, that Tragedy, discoursing of Nature, says:-
“Unwearied Time circles full in perennial flow,
Producing itself. And the twin-bears
On the swift wandering motions of their wings,
Keep the Atlantean pole.”
And Atlas, the unsuffering pole, may mean the fixed sphere, or better perhaps, motionless eternity.
But I think it better to regard the ark, so called from the Hebrew word 'Thebotha', as signifying something else. It is interpreted, 'one instead of one in all places'. Whether, then, it is the 'eighth region' and the world of thought, or God, all-embracing, and without shape, and invisible, that is indicated, we may for the present defer saying.
But it signifies the repose which dwells with the adoring spirits, which are meant by the cherubim.
---St. Clement of Alexandria

It was very WISE of you to cut this track, Darth.
For a relic that is holy. The theme sounds so much like something out of a Horror flick. Isn’t this relic supposed to be something to be used for good? O.o ?!?
I think the theme captures well the awe (and horror) associated with the Ark in the film; the insane power within that will not countenance any defilement, i.e. open at your peril and face the dire consequences. Allowing defilement to go unpunished would result in the loss of the Ark's sanctity.
The Ark was supposedly the most dangerous object in history before the atom bomb, you died if you touched it... and Yahweh resided in it
Then you need to take a look at how angels are actually described in the Bible. Truly the stuff of nightmares.
