This was recorded in April 1985 in a hotel on William Street in Sydney. I was there swinging the mic during that press conference about 6ft from Freddie (I can see myself 45 seconds in) He was very good humoured and quick witted. I was struck by his non stop chain smoking though and he seemed a bit jittery. Spoke to Brian about his guitar afterwards - very nice chap. Don’t recall John Deacon being there. This was about 3 months before the legendary (Yet to be announced) Live Aid performance.
@@interestingthings8598 Camera assisting was my first job in the TV industry and everything was super exciting. It was really fascinating as an inexperienced teenager in Sydney to sit across from an international super star from the UK. Live Aid had not yet been announced so we were yet to be treated to that iconic performance. The press conference was strangely low key and afterwards the crew and Brian queued up for lunch! (It was in the queue that I chatted to Brian) - I seem to recall he was talking about guild selling an authorised copy of his guitar and the responsibility he felt about people being happy with the guitar - I believe they made them from 1983-85? I didn't get an autograph as it would have been a bit unprofessional :-). Freddie was also promoting his Mr Bad Guy Album at the event but not much was said about it I don't think. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mr._Bad_Guy
@Jarred Knox It's down in history as being an iconic performance because 1.9 billion people were watching across the Globe, and they rocked that Stadium without their usual lasers, and lights shows and whatever else they could get their hands on. People were used to seeing that at a Queen show, but instead it was just them and their pure God given talent :)
Seeing this now you are reminded of how hard they were treated by the press in there prime. They constantly ripped the shit out of them. Nowadays they are regarded as one of the greatest rock bands ever. Not so back then.
As an Aussie, I’m embarrassed from the low standard of questions these journalists are asking them. Here they have absolute geniuses in the music industry and they ask them dumb questions about costume design..a bit of intelligence wouldn’t have hurt..
V.B I saw the break free video when I was in high school and even though I was 16 or 17, I laughEd and I’m from East Coast Virginia. Very few Americans snap to that video and I don’t recall anyone saying anything bad about it but we did laugh. There may have been 60-year-olds that would not have or did not like it but they were not watching MTV. MTV was most of the year is up to about 40 years of age. Nowadays it crap. Years ago MTV was great and now it’s pregnant and 16!!
I cannot hear it due to Queen’s music playing in background. Us of who are up there cannot take background voices. It interferes with hearing the press and the answers. I’m sure you meant well just hit a speed bump with a older generation❣️
Aaargh, I hate the media! How in the hell was one of the most original bands the world has ever seen "following trends"?? And why did they always question them about the Break Free video.. they were dressed as women.. so? As if there's something wrong about it. It was so blatantly just for a laugh, and also.. THE BAND WAS CALLED QUEEN.. with one of the world's most famous camp front men.
Freddie's laugh at the end is so infectious, adorable.
Freddie is infectious ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
0:03 He asks "are you following trends" and Freddie says "I think we set them rather then follow them"
AND????
Bit of late reply sugar tits
*a
Paul Bertie hello I am from the future. It is the year 2018
Elizabeth Glasby 😂 from 2019!

Yes the level of journalism was embarrassing

@@interestingthings8598 you are most welcome - if I remember anything else I will post it here :-)
Cool memories you must treasure...thank you for sharing them with us.

Freddie's speaking voice is bloody sexy.
Bloody posh!
❤️🔥
Freddie Mercury and Queen are original. Musical geniuses.
Seeing this now you are reminded of how hard they were treated by the press in there prime. They constantly ripped the shit out of them. Nowadays they are regarded as one of the greatest rock bands ever. Not so back then.
They pass dificult moments with the press. On the top, the British press and to Freddie Mercury they were...i don't find the correct words 💩
Hilarious
ADORABLE FREDDIE ❤❤❤
They are the worlds most brilliant musicians and the press on wants to talk about wardrobe!!!??? Duh.....miss you so much Freddie!!!!

And the fact the Aussie’s booed them off stage in 74.
Yes, the 'journalism' is very poor. I do recall this press conference being held at very short notice so maybe the press weren't prepared enough?
3:14 😍😍3:26 Freddie's laugh ❤❤❤
Freddie won't take any bullshit question.
Why not do drag for music video! 😄
A Queen interview I’ve never seen-thank you😻
This is great. I just wish it wasn’t so blurry.
3:19 "I have sort of have a solo...uhh...certain " Freudian slip from Freddie there hahahah
Omg, how Freddie hated doing interviews!!! RIP Freddie!!!
Hmmmmm...I don't know how I feel about the interviewer...how did he get hired?!
Freddie ❤ Mercury, the untouchable Rock ⭐🎶
Wheeew! ‘85 was a really good year!😍
I cannot hear it due to Queen’s music playing in background.

Nice and funny interview with King Of Rock,
where is john Deacon?
Good question! He never turned up!

I'm not trying to flog my solo album. hehehe
At 3:26 I liked the laugh of Fred.
Em 3:26 gostei da risada do Fred.
@TheKokokiss He hated interviews, he was very shy ..
Ohh... its hard to understand the interview :s
Cool interview. The video quality is kinda disturbing, though. Is there any HD version available?
probably not, video quality on tv brodcasts was terrible back then.
I’m not sure disturbing is the right word lol
Notice how the video ends at 3:41 / 3:42 , *sings SHOW MUST GO ON*
4k full hd 1080 quality
Tursiops xD
Yes Brian Sewell has one of those upperclass accents
Was it held during The Works press conference ?
The Works Tour early 1985
What a terrible interviewer! Rubbish quality of questions....
