I used to dive that same BCD with the integrated backup regulator. But then I switched to a steel backplate/wing. At the same time, I moved from an aluminum to steel tank for the same buoyancy reasons you mentioned. In a 5 mil wetsuit, I can dive without any weights. The backplate and tank are enough on their own. Both regs are the same so minimize rebuild parts in my spares kit. Simple setup that has minimal component type parts that can be reconfigured if need be. If the wing goes bad, just replace it. If a strap breaks, replace it (keep some generic 2" strap in the spares kit). I always love the videos on the tech stuff. Brian needs the shirt I have that says "Trust me, I'm an Engineer". :)
Great video. Brady's comment about diving being like being in space rings so true for me. Getting comfortable is everything. We had a slightly newer version of the 220v Posidon compressor on our boat. It would fill our steel genesis tanks to 5K lbs. Awesome unit. Takes a licking and keeps on filling it can fill a bit wet, but that just means you have to maintain your tanks properly. One thing we did was to keep a 28 gallon plastic trash can in our lazarette. We would fill this with sea water and fill with the tanks in that to get a better fill like many shops and big boats do.
Great video guys. For me, who've made about 200 dives, it's mostly about being weightless. The BC allows one to hover at any depth and just relax while watching the sea life around you. Before I dove I would have dreams of flying. Sort of like flapping my arms and being able to go up into the clouds then swoop down toward the earth. After I started diving those dreams stopped. I was living the dream. It's so good to hear that you all still really enjoy diving after making so many dives.
I love diving because it's like being in a different dimension...the life, the colour, the sounds. You are living the life. Not many could do what you do, for so long and so well. Don't ever give up, and eventually retire somewhere epic that you've come across
Thanks Kazza for another beautifully edited video and sharing your pov. I was geeking out on Brian's explanation of the compressor in the engine room and the 220 volt generator, load management, cooling, maintenance...excellent! And who would love to dive with Master Diver Bradylicious. Love you guys and appreciate more than words can express how freaking much this means to me.
What a great video to watch today. 25 years ago today I got certified to scuba dive. I've had a great time and I've seem lots of cool stuff, and I'm just getting started! I'm with Brady 100%, when I'm under water is when I'm most relaxed, most at peace. I'm now a Divemaster and work with students all them time and it's very rewarding. And I'm about 8 months away from following my dream and combined my two favorite things to do in the world, sailing and scuba diving. I can't wait!
My life now revolves around your UA-cam channel it's a funny thing when I found you about three months ago I was looking at boats and sailing !!! every day now when I get home from work first thing I do is a check for new video from you folks , I now want to sail more than ever ,, I already dive but mostly in Cold water ,, but with this channel I know I want to dive in the places that you dive, and see the wonderful sites of Madagascar and all the other islands and places that you visit !! Your channel is truly inspiring sometimes I feel like I'm with you on that boat !! My kids think it's funny, they will get home and I'll be watching the same episodes over and over all of your crews have been wonderful and I can't thank you enough for doing what you do!!! You are my favorite Channel on UA-cam!!!!
Earlier this year I traveled from Connecticut, USA to Australia and me and my sister went out diving for four days on a live aboard on the Great Barrier Reef. When I got home I started watching scuba videos and that is actually how I discovered the Delos channel. You have the best dive footage I've seen! I of course immediately went back to episode one and watched the entire adventure in about two months - beautiful videos and story! Peace and love, Brian
You got some great gear. I love my Scubapro Hydros Pro PRO BC system and it packs up extremely compact. Nice having your own compressor. BAUER is a proven brand and that auto purge to drain off your condensate is a nice feature.
Yet another great episode. Becoming a dive master took a lot of study and hard work....and bravery.....my hat is off to Brady. I use to dive the East China Sea around Okinawa in the early 60's....understand why he loves it. One can point to Brady's dive leadership for no dive accidents on Delos....
Congrats divers! As a sailor and a Rescue diver you have found a way to descibe and pass to the people the essence of diving...fair winds to you...Rick
Nice! Summed up exactly how I feel about diving! I've been PADI Advanced Open Water since the Eighties, watched "Sea Hunt" when I was a kid, always had the bug to dive. Sailing and diving, the best combo ever! Actually, it's been your channel that inspired me to want to do the same thing, currently working toward that end. I bet you guys would be a blast to dive with!
Thanks for this video, I just got dive certified and still need to buy tanks and was wondering about steel vs. aluminum on a boat. My little brother is a diver and he swears by steel tanks for the same reasons you mentioned but I wasn't sure how well they would hold up long term on a boat cruising so this video gives me confidence that steel is they way to go. I also had a lot of trouble with being under weight so the steel would help that issue too.
Since watching that classic TV series Sea Hunt I wanted to dive. Life, commitments and priorities change and regretfully I never created the opportunity to make it happen. Given I was in grade school when Sea Hunt was released, you can do the math and see it's a little late for me to take it up now, which is my long winded way of thanking you guys for bringing to life a corner of the world I'll never experience first hand. Awesome video!
Watching paint Dry they absolutely are the best channel on the tube and they must be the best kept secret on UA-cam because they should have way more subs and views but hey as long as us loyal viewers get to keep watching them then that's fine with me.
I was bored today at work .. and you guys came to my thoughts and I ask my self is it Friday today to dream and relax while am watching you ! then I came home after hard day and open youtube and i found you ! love you guys
I know those exact feelings. Instructor for around 10 years. Diving for 35 years all up and still undertake lots of commercial diving at least 2 or 3 times every week. Just waiting on an invite to come and dive with you guys for a week or two. LOLLove your work guys and take care.RegardsPhil
I am so happy I got certified back in the mid seventies when it was not quite so expensive for dive training, I need to order new certification cards for NAUI and PADI ....Feels good to be open water certified for life after instruction... You guys rock!!! Love Ya, Dana~
I just learned to Scuba Dive this past summer and I love it. My partner and I live on a 37' Sailboat. I dive from our dinghy because there isn't really a good place to dive from the boat itself, we got rid of the swim platform.
Guys I have been diving since I was 7 yrs old. My father got me a small tank. We used a double hose regulator ala Sea Hunt. By the time I was 9 yrs old I worked on my first episode of Sea Hunt. After high school I was heired to work on a movie shooting in the Bahamas. It was amazing! The water was clear and warm, full of fishe and I felt like one of them.. But I had work to do. We had an old LST Landing Craft, the best diving boat ever. We dove at Stanial Cay grotto for a week but only at slack tide. One of my jobs at (19 yrs old) was to teach actors how to scuba underwater It was easy. That's my story... and I'm stickin' to it.
Dear Delos, I couldn't agree more with your thoughts on diving, it's truly special and those places you can go where there's no-one else are magical. :) Makes me want to get back in the water! Thank you for all the fascinating vids on places I've yet to visit!
i agree with what you are saying safety safety safety. Iam a diver of extremes, the drive profile says it all and the ZEN experience is an experience that each person models.Atlas the experience dictates the level of trainig and experience. Love your videos
Thanks for the video. I've always been happy on the water, so while I've enjoyed your videos, I wouldn't say they inspired me to get a sailboat. (Not a criticism, just a setup for the rest of the comment.) I've always been nervous about diving. I don't mind doing it in a pool, but the thought of doing it out in the ocean has always put me off it. I don't like tight places, and the thought of getting caught underwater in a tight place is quite a bit off-putting. For my birthday this year, my wife got me a snorkel, mask, and fins. I hope by this time next year I'll have all the gear and take a scuba course. I've been slowly getting the courage to do it for some time, and she thought she would help. Plus, I hate paying money every month to have my boat cleaned. Thanks for helping to inspire me in that direction. The thought of missing all of what you have shown us under the waves has slowly, over the years, changed my mind.
We have just signed up to do our first diving and our open water PADI in Utila, Honduras. We are super pumped. We are a long time Delos fans. So excited...and nervous.
Long time sub but I don't post often. All your videos are good but this one is a top one for me. I love the behind the scenes how things work videos and the personal thoughts you guys share really bring it all to life. Next to this, the underwater life you share is my second thing I love. You are sharing things I will never see in person and m so thankful you all take the time to bring us with you. Thanks for all the time you guys put in bringing the unseen world to us.
in the mid 60's i bought the first tiny singled hose tank and regulator that u.s.diver came out with bright yellow job it was......used it on the river where i lived. good video and a day sooner.......i like it.....see you soon.
Thank you for the nice video about the scuba diving operation on Delos. I'm a PADI Open Water Diver too and I always love to see your diving video footage. I am going to try to keep equipment on my vessel as simple as possible, but a compressor and diving equipment I will have for sure, because I am amazed and inspired by your diving adventures in remote locations. Thank you
I look forward to your Friday videos and the quality of what you achieve is remarkable. This video is really cool, I've only ever snorkelled and never been underwater diving. It's on the bucket list. I've only ever gone in the other direction as a climber.
Thanks, guys! As a newly certified diver at age 56, I really appreciate your views on this. I also like your emphasis on being conservative and safe. I'm living vicariously through your adventures. Fair winds and following seas!
I knew Brady was a cool cat and now to learn he’s a certified dive master makes a lot of since for the diving you guys do on Delos. I bet your save a dive kit is well fitted with spare gear and rebuild bits 👍
Things are easier now, in the late 50s when I was diving a little they had to use 4 stage compressors to reach 2000psi, 4 different cylinders each smaller and much higher compression than the one before it, you either filled up in Melbourne's only dive shop (Victoria Australia not Florida) or joined a club which supplied you from large bottles, it took 1 and a 1/2 hours to reach our favorite spots for the joy of 1 1/2 hours diving (twin 40 cu ft tanks). The only other people that had a compressor was the Navy.
Man I'm so addicted to this channel. You guys really inspire me, and have given me new perspective in life. Hopefully we can cross paths one day. Safe travels guys!!!

Guys, I can't put into words how much you heal my soul! Long story short I have ALOT of saltwater in my blood. Level 4 Padi, blah, blah........how do i talk you into hopin on for a couple weeks?
Compressors on startup can draw twice as many amps it does when running. My shop one pulled 60 amps starting. My shop compressor does the same as yours, I always opened a release valve b4 starting then close it 10 - 15 sec for motor warm up. - otherwise as you do I had to turn off every other tool/appliance till startup. My previous compressor (same model) I had made up a small "pre-tank" where air first accumulated before going into the main tank (Your dive tanks?) this solved the startup draw on amps, eliminated that problem. I can not remember how I did this, the "pre-tank" (not sure what to call it) was made from 2" S.S tube 6" long with end disc's welded on. Air in and out there was two 5/16 threaded piped welded on the sides, top and bottom, one went to the tank the other from the compressor, so it was placed in the feed line from compressor to tank, this is a 1/4' or 5/16" alloy pipe with flared ends the nut clamped to existing compressor head and tank inlet - make sense? Awesome vid for me as non diver thank you! Great editing!
I noticed that you opened the tank and fill hose valves all the way. I recommend only a half or one full turn, you will not see a reduction in the fill rate and if there is a failure you can more quickly get it under control. A ruptured fill hose can get quite loud and fly around very violently.
Last night I dreamt that I was sailing with you guys on Delos! (Yes actually dreamt?!) I think I need to stop looking because it's getting to my head! Haha Hope you have a lovely time ✨
Great insight... as always thanks for the hard work sharing your journey... you always inspire me to grind hard to always improve my content... love and safe travels...
I am 63 been diving since 23. It's like being on another world. Sometime easy, sometimes vicious, always different, always beautiful.

Brian is the man. Intelligent without being pretentious, super chill & all that. Inspiring dude! Cheers to you. Delos is the best channel on YT.

Well done Karen ..... nicely produced and edited ..... the gap between the viewers and those of you experiencing narrowed, a pleasure to watch.
You guys are my favourite youtube channel, no other videos are even close to as good as your videos. Keep up the good work 😀

Down to Earth and Under the Sea! :)
My three favorites that i support through Patreon are..... Sailing SV Delos, SV Seeker, and TMRO. Check them out!

It started with snorkeling for me, got bored with it pretty quick. Get certified, you won't regret it.
the stunningistly part of Delos vids = the amazing Dives!! I lose myself in the beauty you capture. Your underwater quality is epic!
much respect for the three of you and the entertainment/knowledge you bring to so many, fairwinds

You guys are SOOO good. Pros. Better and better. Loved this one. Love the specialized technical videos.
Thanks for sharing with those of us who will never get to experience this type of freedom
Brady's story about drift diving in Indonesia is quite eye opening
I look forward to your Friday videos and the quality of what you achieve is remarkable. This video is really cool, I've only ever snorkelled and never been underwater diving. It's on the bucket list. I've only ever gone in the other direction as a climber.

Yes, thank you for sharing I couldn't agree more with your explanation of why I like to dive too.
I am mad at you guys. My dad loves your channel so much that he went out and spent my inheritance on a boat! :o)
....next thing you need to do is quit yer job & get on that boat with pops & enjoy the world!
I love it! Grim's got it right! You're so lucky.
SteeleFarm that's a great suggestion! My kids gonna hate that you told me about that trick. Lol 👍😜
what Grim said go out and enjoy the world live better and longer than punching a time clock
My dad spent my inheritance on coke, I wish he bought a yacht instead lol.
You've summed it all up. Thanks for putting this video on You Tube. Stay safe, and go with the flow..!
wow,a hundred plus questions anwered in one vid,thank you,you do your viewers a masssive favor,and service,thank you.R.
Fabulous video interview and questions, Karin !! Know that you and all the crew of S/V Delos are special. 😊👍👌⛵️⚓️⛵️⚓️

Wicked mini episode. Answered a lot of questions I had about your diving. Very cool that Bradster is a dive master. Thx for this one. 👍
That you very much for the scuba intro. Always been my favorite being a diver myself. Thanks again.
Now that's a cracking video! Really enjoying what you do, what you put out in content and the karma you portray.
Fantastic episode. I was wondering about your set up last week and then this episode pops up! Well done guys!
Such an excellent video. Your perspectives and thoughts about Diving are very interesting. Thank you for the video. Keep having fun.
Wow. Man you guys clobbered it with this one. So cool
Love me some mid week Delos vids!!!!! I wish you guys would do 2 videos a week more often.
That's it. You've sold me on diving. I'm going to start looking at places to get certified. You guys should make more videos like this. Maybe a "Sailing DIY" video. 😎
So I've always wanted to actually see how you all fill the dive tanks and the compressor you use....very cool you bought it in my backyard of SF ! Hope you make it back through here someday for a Q&A ??!!
Diving & Sailing! My 2 Favorite things.
Nice weekly bonus, lady and gentlemen. I really enjoyed this!
i just used a new browser with no ad block and no skip to watch your video. I didn't even confirm a browser update and I watched the advertisement. WHY? I like your content.
when I don't want to bother with the ads, i wait like 6 seconds in and refresh the page & it usually starts the video....
You earnt them $0.00001. You'd be better off becoming a $1 patron :)
What a treat an extra episode early in the week ! Thanks for sharing 😎
that so awesome thanks for taking the time to do this I love it watching this makes me want to buy some gear and take classes right now
I've been wondering for the longest time about your pump. Thanks for sharing.
This was my favorite video, thanks for the personal side of diving.
Hey! So cool to have a surprise like this pop up. A mini weekend :). Interesting to see how simple you have kept your gear.
Awesome. The best sailing channel in UA-cam. Thank you
Hi and thanks for sharing all the info
Terry, I have watch all you vids,, Cantr thank you enough for sharing,
Guys, I can't put into words how much you heal my soul! Long story short I have ALOT of saltwater in my blood. Level 4 Padi, blah, blah........how do i talk you into hopin on for a couple weeks?
Thanks for this insight to another world, easily one of your best uploads, for me anyway.
Cheers from Australia
Great information on diving. Love that seahorse! Gidiup!! Nice and relaxed video. Thanks

Loving the focus on diving......I can't wait to see more!
Well, this was a special treat. It's a good thing I am all thumbs, I can only give this one like yet I can give it 10 thumbs up!
Fair winds.
I noticed that you opened the tank and fill hose valves all the way. I recommend only a half or one full turn, you will not see a reduction in the fill rate and if there is a failure you can more quickly get it under control. A ruptured fill hose can get quite loud and fly around very violently.
A middle of the week upload this just made my day I love ya Delos,,,,,,😊soooooo awesome.
Great video. I love that you do it all yourselves. Keep up the good work.
