Absolutely brilliant Dom. Tell me, where is your voice mic placed? I can't see it yet your dialog sounds quite close - would you be as kind to tell me what camera you're using to please? tnx
@@DomSigalas It's something new and different when compared to mostly every other video on YT. It's seriously cool. If I may ask, are you also using some room noise cancelling software? it just sounds perfect-clean-quiet. And, would you be as kind to share what camera are you using? Absolutely brilliant Dom. Hugs from Ireland. :)
Great video to unleash the power of Absolute! Love that you show programs of Halion in full swing. Just have a trouble. Can't find Large Strings VX preset in my Absolute 4 collection. Is it there?
Hello Don I just get your awesome string sound right, I've tried everything. I have Halion 7. you certainly don't like putting your preset online.. Greetings from Germany Munster
An interesting video and very interesting to see the process of creating the track. However, I think you're over-hyping backbone. It's a nice tool. However, people did (and do) cope perfectly well without it. I can see the usefulness of instant layering, effecting different layers, separating tonal from atonal etc. But, a lot of samples comprise of many layers already, and although backbone has the ability to, for example, retain the same attack regardless of note played (e.g. in the toms example), for a lot of purposes this point is moot because you'll tend to play a sample within a restricted range anyway, and, in the mix, you won't really notice the difference. So, I'd say selective use of backbone is probably a nice-to-have, not a need-to-have. Splashing backbone around all over the shop is a little over-stating things. And if you have too many heavily multi-layered sounds in a mix, you'll soon start to get cluttered and lose their effectiveness.
Hey Ian! I totally see where you're coming from! But I am only scratching the surface on what Backbone can do on this video. This is legitimately how I layer samples since I started using Backbone. I haven't found a better way to be honest. It's not just about retaining the attack unaltered (which does make a huge difference in a production), it's about the sheer amount of control when it comes to sound design. If you start layering drums and try to mould them with EQ, you compromise a lot many times and you don't have control on how the layers will interact with each other. Also, the fact that you can create a layer and drag and drop it as a new sample allows you to build your own libraries super fast. And this is again, just scratching the surface on what you can do. I could easily use Groove Agent for all the drums but this is how I work :)
Dom, this was a very helpful video. I would love to see more of these full song production breakdown using only the Cubase stock plugin.
