Focus on distance and the effort and less on specific time run. 18 to 24 mile long runs (for your longest long runs) is sufficient. Keep up the great work!
Hello Nathan would you run or advise to run a max of 20 miles for a half marathon despite running over 80 miles per week they say someone running 80 miles per week should have a long run between 16 to 20 miles would this still apply to a half marathon specifically. Would a longer long run help more for a half marathon or is that more toward marathon training where the 25 percent rule as that’s how much you’re long run should take up over you’re weekly running mileage. Will the longer you make it make you a faster half marathon runner. What are your thoughts?
@ Hello Nathan. I am thinking about doing a half marathon as a race before my goal half marathon. Is this advisable as a really good run not this week as I ran at a pretty fast 15 mile run pace this weekend but the following week before the race that is on the march 16th 2024 to see how Much I have came along since running that self timed half marathon PB. I know what you suggested is very good in terms of a very paced effort to Mimic races but not quite a race essentially a very fast run. I was thinking about running at around 1:22 half marathon pace for 13:11 miles still not at my race pace as a mental boost to hype myself up before the run going in with confidence to execute a 1:20 half marathon on the day. I would definitely look at getting a phew of those runs in that you said run 10 to 12 seconds for a portion of the run but not obviously the whole run. Thanks Nathan.
I suppose a 6M run at MP after a 10M Easy is better than a 10M MP run. I know it is much harder for me. My goal now is to do what you are suggesting about MP or even HMP running during the long runs and maybe have a couple of long runs rather than one a week.
Yeah, the LSD is a misinformation. The top coach Renato Canova said that you should only do long runs every 14-20 days because you want to body to supercompensate. Long runs take around 2 weeks to get full adaptation. I do a 20-20-20 “long run” instead if I want to do it weekly. You do cut down pace to stimulate a certain physiology of the body.

Varied pace long runs have been a game changer for me, I wholeheartedly recommend them!
💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪
Thanks once again for this helpful and informative video!
My pleasure! Thanks for your support mom 😍😍😍😍😍
Love it, Coach! Especially what you said about patience - 12 weeks to Boston
You got this!
Hail Coach
My main focus this year
Thanks again
I hear that I should cut the long time if it exceeds 2:30 hrs. My goal M time is 3:35. I won’t be able to finish a 20miler with that limit.

I’m glad my long run doesn’t have a time goal, I’m still recovering from Saturday’s variable pace long run.
JOG this coming weekend on the long run to recover. Great work Thomas.
@@rundreamachieve coach it’s going to be cold, it was -9 this AM, so I might have to generate some heat

20 miles for a half marathon is sufficient, 18 to 20 miles. Remember, quality versus quantity. Keep up the superior work. Big PRs coming your way Luke

I would aim for a 10k or a 10 miler, not a half before the half.
@ great always very helpful.

Yes, but only after you have spent 4 to 8 weeks building easy long runs into the schedule. Keep up the great training Zia.

Smart moves you're making Ben. Keep up the superior work!
