I am far from a Muskie fishing expert, mainly only do it in the fall with these giant sucker minnows in Canada. One thing I learned quickly there are days you need to let them eat it and take anywhere from 2 to 5 minutes before setting the hook. They need to drop it and hit it from another angle or whatever their process is. But I learned on days when they hit it and I wait until I believe they have it good only to have them immediately drop, I tried setting on it sooner than the standard average time ( which is hard to do because it goes against the common theory of take your time) I notice I don’t miss many. With 2 big trebles I had them stuck on the deepest part of the jaw joint. It’s hard to do because it goes against theory they need time. I find if I have fish spitting it just after hookset I then go to setting the hook when the fish seems most aggressive. Sometimes right away when they make that firsts trike. Typically they are trying to injure it before coming back for an easy meal thus making the first strike the most aggressive strike. When I Set on the aggressive first strike I noticed I didn’t lose many. But remember, I only resort to that when I have days when I’m losing them after waiting and waiting and trying to see if they have it good. A little resistance on initial strike can sometimes help those hooks to penetrate deep. I know that goes against all theory of sucker fishing, but sometimes on days like you just had, I tried that way and had success. But like I said, you are a Muskie expert and I’m a bass tourney guy. Just wanted to share that as it may be worth a shot when they are dropping them quickly. Still a hell of a day some real quality fish and seeing that many on a mid summer would be unusual. You raised a lot of big quality fish in this video, I love fall fishing as it’s when Muskie become the least shy of boats. I’m so jealous
Heidi can really catch fish well but sometimes I’ve noticed she might be a little better with the net but all around she can really catch muskies. And if Robbie is out on a boat I know he’s always going to catch something you guys are very successful
@@TodaysAngler Correct. He said it was a 30 second fight every good musky fisherman has bolt cutters and a long needle nose pliers. So we're off to a bad start when it comes to being truthful.
Riveting episode great day you said 2 you got 2 maybe smaller suckers let them swim a little longer since its colder and they are moving slower I dont know but I wanted to see you guys get that 50 was rooting for ya the cold weather makes you wanna hurry but you gotta go slow
I like fishing but didn’t realize they can be that ready to bite/eat but I sure it did not come easy. This was my first video I liked it. Hours into bait and then hours into your game fish
Hey guy great to Heidi in the boat where did Heidi get her neck gator? I think that would be a great Christmas gift for the wife looks nice and thick homemade?
why is it Suckers always seem to an instant reaction upon being put in the water? Are the Musky just that active? I want to try this at Alum Creek Spillway.
this is WAAAAAY more interesting to me, and prolly alot of other viewers, than watching someone sling spinners, swimbaits, and jerkbaits all day long...
Hoping to get some badly hooked fish I guess ?? You guys really need to go with live bait and try let them swallow it ?? How many muskies have died because you had to use live bait ?
Beyond disgusting. Cruel and sadistic to use a fish like that for live bait. What an incredible disrespect to the resource. And this is coming from a lifetime fisherman. Absolutely disgusting.
Nothing like having ring side seats watching the Dream Team put a most excellent show.
Usually the ones you don’t catch make the strongest memories. Cool vid Robbie
It's good to see Heidi get better and better. The student will surpass the teacher.
Wow, very nice fish. I'm looking to get myself a Muskie or a Pike this year and trying to learn everything that I can for it

A good day on the water even with the lost fish.

Sucker fishing always been 50/50. I remember one year went 0/8. Drives ya nuts. Nice video.
Have you ever tried circle hurts vs. the trebles? I’m wondering if you’d get better hookups. Just curious about your thoughts. Amazing fish! Nice vid!
They work fine on small (under 8")- big baits not so much.
Got my heart going. Love the chase.
Great vid as always Robbie ! So what's your opinion on the unrevivable record muskie caught on mille lacs lake November 22nd 2021 temperature 25° ?
Just ask Larry Ramsell. He'll tell you muskies don't get that big.
@@ericstaven7125 LoL 😂
Glad it was verified.
Not true.

Bend open the hooks just a tad, could increase your percentage...plus sharp hooks also
Hooks are sharp. They were just grabbing where there were no hooks this day.
First off I thought you slapped the sucker after you missed that first guy I almost started dying laughing
Heidi: "Let's get the bigger one."
That's the perfect wife for you there man. You two were made for one another...

Not sure
Great stuff, very intense, thanks for sharing that sucker fishing can be a rollercoaster
Recorded horizontally:)

Fresh
get diff qs rigs us the ones with the nose clips that helped my numbers
Our hookup ratio was very high this year. That clear water the fish were grabbing where the hooks weren't
Heidi just doesn't have the "snap " it takes to break that sucker free. She will get it eventually.
what brand of fishing line is that , and what lbs is it, hollow core?
100lb something, can't remember
Heidi got a mean left hook! not much else ya can do
Quel est le nom du poisson que tu présentes sur le miniature de la vidéo
Using live bait can be effective but I'm waiting for the barbie doll to be made available.
crazy
40 inch still about 20 pounds, like pike?

Great vid guys, Muskies suck!
definitely not vermilion
C'mon, Jarnigo...don't bump a fish and not give a number. 37??
I think so haha!

Thanks for watching ♥️
You know they eat them whether they are on hooks or not right? You must be vegan too?
There's literally nothing different between this and the live bait they use for bluefin tuna or marlin or even tarpon...grow a pair buddy
Suppose you feel bad for worms too? Use some lettuce or pickles for bait, let us know how that works out. Fish are predators, deal with it
ILL Musky Hunter….ya? Well he probably doesn’t like that either.
