- La Grande y Felicísima Armada, the Great and Most Fortunate Navy.. was a 16th century fleet of 137 warships and 55 thousand men, better known as the Spanish Armada.
This mighty fleet was built to face 34 English warships and about 200 armed merchant ships, defeat them, then invade England, overthrow Elizabeth I, reinstate Catholicism instead of Anglicanism, and prevent attacks by English and Dutch pirates against Spanish vessels in America.
It was supposed to be an easy victory.
It was nothing of a sort.
So what the hell happened?

Erm, no. The English Armada got wrecked the next year at Corunna with a loss off over 40 ships. The London Treaty of 1604 shows England giving in to Spains demads. Spains navy keeped growing for another 50 years yet and was overtaken by the Dutch first not the English.

It's a shame that such a powerful fleet of warships were all but gone that way 😮 Who knows, if it still existed maybe Spain would be part of European G7 countries today 😅
