- The late great Ross Hannaford, with Ross Wilson, captured sound checking for the Melbourne Music Festival in 1988. This clip features two great Daddy Cool tracks - Come Back Again & Eagle Rock.
this is a sound check !!!! many people can t sing like this in a REAL concert ....
Ross Hannaford is a certified aussie rock guitar legend. RIP. Gonna miss your insanely brilliant guitar magic...i was hooked the moment i heard this song and your playing in 1971.
Rest Easy Ross Hannaford Sensational guitarist and entertainer
Нравится… очень нравится!! Успехов Вам!!!!
Every aspiring Australian guitarist should watch this and learn , especially from the late great Ross Hannaford
RIP Mr Hannaford, many Aussie musos dont get how much you had an influence on Australian music. Much love and miss you
I was learning to play guitar in 1971 and picked up quite a few licks from Daddy Cool's records. I had hair back then and it was virtually the same as Ross Wilson's.
@@arthurblackhistoric those were the days my friend.
💇 funny. I bet you still look hottie without 💇.

@@carolinegodden4364 . . I'm 68 nowadays, and right up until age 66 I still had my powerlifter's build, but then by the time I'd hit 67 things had begun to go wrong, little by little. First to go was my back, which made it too hard to keep lifting due to the pain. Then I started to lose some of the fine motor skills in my hands, but I kept going. Then in November 2021, my skills deserted me ON STAGE!! My hands went completely spaz on me, in front of every fan and supporter I had! Now I've got nothing to do and all day every day to do it. . . . .
Yes he's great
😮 my condolences 😢
Was the first concert my friends and I ever went to. Caught the bus from Swansea to Newcastle show ground, must’ve been around 71 , even took girls with us. Remember being totally mesmerised by Ross W singing and dancing in a baggy white suit and being blown away by Ross H’s playing - he was wearing a cap with a propeller on it 🙏. Great days - “come back again”🌌🥳
Lol .... a cap with a propeller on it !! That would be Ross 😂
Man this is just so awesome... legends. That harmony and tone of the band. Unbelievable live mix.
Daddy Cool! They had a hit way back in 1970s when I was first in Australia, I remember those times with good vibes, very nice young ladies, sun, surf and a few cold ones, good days.
Jilly, your man hanging out here. Say, how is John Farnham's recovery going?
Does he need mates to go fishing yet? Or not quite up to that? Let me know. Bruce, BUGS and I will come and sit quietly, whist John never shuts up with his telepathy.
I'm afraid, we are too late for the old, smother his face with a pillow 🔱. Dang.
His stuck on you, like glue that Golden 🦁.
Anytime, if he needs sorting, I'll send TOP GUNNS... you are not alone with the Big Fella, no more... CJ x
Oz rock royalty, where's my foxtail. ❤
Mr Hannaford not forgotten. Playing guitar forever.
Probably Australia's best band and the hannaford is totally cool!
Ross W ... Do you think any of the ARIA 2023 Winners will still be performing their songs live to an eager public over 50 years later?
Empty dance floor. Eagle Rock starts. Full dance floor. So many times.
Agree, Ross Hanna was such a big but subliminal part of our history, he was always politely in the back ground behind Ross Wilson, I am 66 and first saw the band at amoco hall in orange 1970, Hanna just hung in there supporting Ross Wilson!
That's how you play a guitar Mr Hannaford xxx pure filling
Saw Ross.W perform in Warrugal in March 2023 he still got it. Neil. D
Im so glad i got to see these guys in 71
Ross Hannaford should be a National Treasure in the Archives Museum.
He's a true legend. RIP mate.
Alan Strom Absolutely Alan
A BIG LOSS TO THE WORLD OF MUSIC 🕺🕺❤🎧
Agree x
Man can't they play brilliant
Just having fun these guys , young voices , old guitars . Catchy music go for it
One of the best videos I've seen on UA-cam, and this was only a soundcheck!
It is called professionalism.

@@custompipes1 you beauty, SURE IS, GOANNA COUNTRY. Caroline Jane 'CJ' x
It's absolutely fantastic 😍
The two Rosses remind me of The Party Machine , most original Aust Band
Doesn’t get any better than this! RIP Hanna!
Ross hanaford one under estimated guitar players of all time
Wow !!!!! Give me more if this music...classic....this is real music. Beats all the microphone crunchers of today's try hards who have no idea of writing songs or singing them.
Takes me back to 71 as a radio hit
Takes me back to 82 Sweetwaters Mondo Rock.
I'm going to love these 2 songs till I die.😊
How I dig Daddy Cool. Wilson and Hannaford had this uncanny knack of sounding brilliant with the two guitars plus their voices complimented each other on the chorus lines. Hope you're doin' a boogie upstairs Ross Hannaford. The fantastic rubber man RIP.
a time gone by… oh how envious i am on that golden era of real music.
Yes, GOLDEN ERA OF AUSSIE MUSIC, great term to deploy. CJ x
Such a great, great band.
Just love this footage! 🤩
I walked into the Sarah Sands,Sydney Road, late 80’s and Ross Hannaford was playing Lafayette Rail Road! I couldn’t believe his broad appreciation and his artistry!
Saw them first in 1971 at Amco hall, Orange, NSW.
My kids and grandies now big fans still, what a sign of big Oz legends !
Totally perfect - Ross and the Hanna !!!!
💥💥LEGENDS!!!!! 💥💥We love yas -
❤❤❤R.I.P Ross Hannaford - you were such a humble, cool guy ❤❤❤
Best sound check of all time?
Yes
Oh yeah! Feel like I'm 13 years old again💓
Sounds clean 👌 🙌
Great tune, great voice, great guitar, drums awsome. Legends of ozzy rock.
This is the best
For a rehearsal the band sounds amazing, wow! Hearing the awesome sounding snare of Derek Pellicci, the super talented and truly awesome Ross Hannaford on guitar and Ross Wilson belting out two great tunes was a pleasure listening to.
That’s Gary Young’s snare !!!
Looooove listening to this, simply awesome!!
Love those guitars
Just fabulous
I was 11 in 1971 and at that time would have put SWEET CITY WOMAN by THE STAMPEDERS up against ANYTHING THEN...I didn't know of EAGLE ROCK by DADDY COOL at the time, and as CANADIAN as I am I must admit that EAGLE ROCK was an even better tune! No WONDER it was #1 on the Australia Charts for 10 weeks!
as i live in the uk now i never knew hannaford died. truly a 1970s icon. daddy cool were the most cool group in that era
A great person and musician
By golly that Ross Wilson really was the shit!!! Carried that band.
Soooo mis Hanna and his deep bass xxx

Good times, awesome band
80s Rock 🎵🎶🎵🎶🎶 wish this whole gig was available on spotify
70's rock. First saw them live in 1971, also saw Ross W. 2 weeks ago
@@DotsKangaroo I meant the laneway concert prob should have worded better, Would have been awesome seeing all these talented bands. However I do have a signed drumstick from Joe Camilleri 😀🎶😀
Is great to have little mementos like that, I have Billy Thorpes guitar pic from one of the Long Way concerts :)

2 great Rosses
Some great music happens at sound checks.........
First I am aware of that. Do they usually record sound checks?
If not, would be wise to, me thinks. CJx
Feelin so sad so lonely and blue
Saw these guys live just once - small venue - still goosebumps
Sydney Showground 1971, I was the misbehaving 15 year old. hahahaha
If you still have goosebumps it's probably a skin disease.
@@DotsKangaroo ah ha, so you arrived in the 50s. How was that transition, 50's to 60's did it feel as huge as it was.... Massive Cultural & 🍄 shift.
Baby baby boomer here in Melbourne 61 yrs old, arrived 1961..... wowee speed of light shifts, as soon as I hit the dance floor via SIA & TOMMO GODDO.
@@blindtoby8967 so helpful 👿 boyo.
Thanks, Ross Hannaford.
Simply the best. Thank you UAP Channel! You the legend!
AMAZING!! 👏👏👏
Absolutely brilliant bunch of guys.
Ross Wilson went on to do some more great songs with Mondo and Eric's fine guitar work too.
Wowooooowwooo!!!!

Ross Wilson still has hair!
Thanks bro! Love from Oz! Who could tell a bunch of convicts would lead to this! Good on ya mate!
Great hair!
Yes we do
Hannas gone , it’s not the same but Willson is driving it all ok
What a great series you guys are sharing!!
this must have been a wonderful concert.... there is a wonderful video of Skyhooks doing their sound check on YT
Priceless...
Wow - them was the days. Hanna was alive and Wilson had hair. Great video!

Good Gitarre😍😍😍😍
Australian Rock Royalty
Just discovered this . Music has devolved compared to these gems. Check out Renee Geyer with Ross Hannaford on SingingDog , a Hessie production ,Love don't live here anymore . Mind blowing .
Great, thanks. I adore Renee and have not seen that one. Sounds scrumptious fun. Caroline x
Ross played looking cool like this Australia day concert parramatta park 2019 !
Where are all the Peps? I’m just crazy bout you babe?
Great sound on this vid. Derek Pellicci from LRB on drums too. And Ross Hannaford, I always loved his playing and Monday nights at the Espy front bar with Dianna Kiss was a Melbourne institution.
NOW LISTEN!!!
Do you remember him in Shirl’s Neighbourhood.
Hanna. Just perfect (sigh)
Hello, would it be okay if I would include this video in my own video series about best songs of Australia the USA never heard?
Absolutely fine go ahead
Never heard! We played Eagle Rock a LOT on KPPC & KYMS back in the days... Love it!
I saw the Daddy Cool Daddy Who? album in a record store in Boston Mass. 1974
@@blueycarlton Yeah i didn’t know that, i found this: “Daddy Who?... Daddy Cool was also released in the US on the Warner/Reprise label and the band toured in support of its release. Two singles were lifted from the album: "Eagle Rock" No. 1 on the Australian national singles chart and "Come Back Again" which reached No. 3.”
@@UAPch
A lot of their stuff on YT.
Daddy Rocks Off, Teenage Blues, Hi Honey Ho, Boogie Man, Don't Ever Leave Me, For You, Rock 'N' Roll Lady, Just As Long As We're Together, Please Please America, etc.
Mostly written by singer/guitarist Ross Wilson. He went on to front Mondo Rock in the 80's, which had many hits. He has released many albums under his own name.
They do remind of the Dead. But, I like 'em better and the groove is livelier.
Ross Wilson and Kramer.
Gitarre is Mega Geil !!!!!
I hope this was a sound check..no one there!@@
Ich finde es aber SUPER
Is that Jeff Burstin on the acoustic guitar?
Wasn’t he in JoJo Zep ?
@@gostrum1 yes he was
Ross.W and Ross.H both Aussie Legends .But folks also on guitar behind them is more Aussie rock royalty James Black from Rockwiz ,Black sorrows, men at work gangajang etc. I see him helping bands sound good almost every year at "one electric Day "at Werribee mansion .It would be easier to list who he hasn't played with, guitar or keyboard. We need to appreciate them during their careers in Australia not lament after we have lost 'em. Jame's we're not worthy..! Then..theres Eric Mccusker....wrote or co-wrote mondo rock's hits...'these guys can fill their own wikipedia page with their "family trees of oz rock"
Don’t forget Derick pellicci on drums. Ex LRB.
They seem to have it together and can play alright so they might do OK.
Is this a dress rehearsal? Where is the audience?
Correct. This is the sound check for the show the next day
I thought it was Ross Wilson &
Jeff Goldblum !
Packed Stadium
No
They're Rehersing
...And the crowd goes wild!!!*@#!!!???!!!
AFL Grand Final co- Vid style 2020!!!!!
LMFAO
