I was inspired to try my own solo run, and it's been a blast. I am not allowing reclassing, but I did allow myself a multiclass. I'm doing a spore druid/1 level of war cleric for the weapon/bonus action attacks. Currently just finished up the goblin camp after a little tomfoolery in the under dark to get some good striker gear. Basically relying on spike growth and the extra 1d6 necrotic +dual weilding. No fighting style, which sucks, but 2d6 flat on off hand is good. Great video! In my case the returning pike never returned if I do the initial attack out of combat. I assume it can be since its not my turn and weapons only return in my own turn. Initiating with a random spear improved my throwing build
With regards to the Moonstone in the Selunite outpost, if you just sneak then you can avoid getting shot by the lasers without having to destroy the moonstone.
Nice video, UA-cam recommended it to me randomly, as I myself play BG3 currently. I learned some new things by simply watching you, so I will do the same in the future. Good job!

This is a great video. Haven't finished my first normal playthrough yet (4x Barbarian party on Balanced, just learning Barb and mapping out the game), but for solo Tactician playthrough I wanna try either Rogue or Barbarian. (Maybe Bard too, but Bard seems a little cheesy depending on how you build it.) Very interesting that you're soloing with a martial class. That wasn't my first thought for soloing because my first impulse was "use a high-CHA and/or stealth character to avoid as much combat as possible". But stuff like the moving-items-around trick has really opened my eyes as another way to get around tough fights without talking around them. I also didn't realize you could shove Dror Ragzlin. Finding opportunities to gank Minthara and Gut is relatively easy, but I didn't realize Ragzlin had an easy shove opportunity (granted, I usually either assassinate him from the rafters or mess up the mind flayer seance and have a big nasty brawl right in his room)
Also, wow, getting Gut in position for shoving via her Silver Tray is harder than it looks. I still haven't been able to line her up correctly for a clean shove without getting caught.
Yeah, as someone else said thrown weapons sometimes take a bit to actually return to you properly, but i also noticed if you start combat with a thrown weapon it doesnt return. I think this is because if you are not first in the turn order the game cant return the weapon, since you cant change equipment if it isnt your turn. It seems returning weapons dont have an exception made. I have not tested it with a character with high initiative to see if it works properly when you are first in the turn order though, and i have not tried this in the most recent patch so it may have changed.
You should have went to the torturer in the goblin camp before attacking them to get the Loviatar's Love buff, since it's a solo run you'll never die to lose it and the +2 to hit and all saving throws when bellow 30% hp would be pretty useful for some clutch fights. The buff even lasts for 2 turns if you heal above 30% and all you need to do to get it is succeed on 3 deception/intimidation/constitution checks.
Minor correction about the Selunite camp in the Underdark: you should be able to destroy the Moonstone powering the anti-Minotaur (and anti-Tav) lasers with a simple bow attack. Not sure why throwing weapons might not work (never tried that myself) but an arrow attack should always work no matter the build.
I live stream all my playthroughs, though I don't have the VODs for the fighter series on my channel, I do have the ones for my bard series if you're interested in watching it full and uninterrupted
Owlbear is hard at start. I used mage hand, positioned him on high ground and dropped 3x acid vials and health pots near him, so he could be a "throw" healer/DPS.
I’ve been thinking about doing a Conjuration Wizard solo run myself. Seems like it’d be interesting to try and get through the early game without the benefits of something like the Fighter and then see how busted it gets when you get frequent access to summons.
One thing I've noticed with the returning weapons, if you end your turn too quickly it won't return. Sometimes it takes a few seconds to do so, so always wait until it does before ending
I have but the VOD has no commentary and is kinda dull so I probably won't unless people get really curious! and even then likely would only do so on a separate channel
@@the_truant Perfectly understandable! I personally think a second channel would be great for people like me that are interested to see the full fights played out--something like TheTruantVODS. Anyhow, thanks for the awesome content!
Best way I've figured out how to deal with the magma mephits is to pre-drench the area with either create water, or in your case tossing a bunch of water bottles. Drench yourself too while you're at it.
Also, tip if you try this again, the minotaur by the outpost gate is resable by glut, and is an absolute powerhouse in the duegar fight. Highly recommend
My barbarian uses the ring of flinging, tavern brawler and returning pike to devastating effect. I'm pretty sure that thrown items get added fall damage when throwing from high ground too!
30:08 You don’t surprise Ethel because she has the Alert feat ;) I’ve also found that throwing weapons from sneaking and surprising enemies generally breaks the returning condition from Eldritch Knight's Weapon Pact or the Returning Pike and Nyrulna Looking forward to Act 2 or different classes!
My first Idea: Githyanki - command scroll -> stealing silver Sword Doing Throwing Build with 1d4 extra ring and going with alot of high ground. Eldritch Knight with 17 INT circlet from Blighted Village. Now lets watch the video :D
26:28 i had this happen so many times with my eldritch blasts, i think the giant hammer press thing is invisible for the fight so you can see but if you click the enemy the game thinks you're targeting it
The 4d4 damage thing with Kushigo: I think it might be because the gloves give 1d4 for throw attacks AND 1d4 for attacks with improvised weapons. So you can throw an improvised weapon and get 2d4 bonus just from the gloves.
Man, I think they should really make so that the tavern brawler bonus for thrown items doesn't apply to martial weapons. Makes sense thematically and would be a bit less broken.
Another thing you can do to kill Gut without aggroing everyone: take the sleep potion she offers, but then save your strength. Raphael's servant will save you by killing Gut and the ogre
hey, about the thrown weapon... i think it always comes back properly, unless you spam throw action before it comes back. always wait a second or two until you hear that sound of the weapon coming back and you are good to go to throw again
The bug with the weapon not coming back mostly happens if you initiate combat with the throw. It normally works if you`re already in combat. Don`t know why they haven't fixed it yet
I was going to say yes, it's not easy but can be done, then I saw that mages defence tactics and realised I don't know a thing and her skills at evasion defeat my very understanding of physics and reality. You will die a lot but it's doable, though my murder hobo route usually makes me go down a sorcerer playstyle
the grymskull and admantine armor+ shield prevents critical hits, so I like to spread them out among the party. you dont really get the big benefits by putting them all on your heavy armor tanks, sadly.
Act 2 is out now! Thanks for being patient while I make it and check it out here: ua-cam.com/video/DFjGFoon65A/v-deo.html

You can also let the goblin priest do her stuff on you and after some dialog she dies for “reasons”
30:08 You don’t surprise Ethel because she has the Alert feat ;)
I’ve also found that throwing weapons from sneaking and surprising enemies generally breaks the returning condition from Eldritch Knight's Weapon Pact or the Returning Pike and Nyrulna
Looking forward to Act 2 or different classes!
My first Idea:
Githyanki - command scroll -> stealing silver Sword
Doing Throwing Build with 1d4 extra ring and going with alot of high ground.
Eldritch Knight with 17 INT circlet from Blighted Village.
Now lets watch the video :D
Your rules were like the bare minimum of what I’d expect given the title/premise of the video
i feel like bard is the ultimate solo class, might have to give it a try at some point
26:28 i had this happen so many times with my eldritch blasts, i think the giant hammer press thing is invisible for the fight so you can see but if you click the enemy the game thinks you're targeting it
If you killed the demon on the ship you get a great sword that is really great, for the first chapter.
The 4d4 damage thing with Kushigo: I think it might be because the gloves give 1d4 for throw attacks AND 1d4 for attacks with improvised weapons. So you can throw an improvised weapon and get 2d4 bonus just from the gloves.
Fighter can solo the entire game by itself...
Sharpshooter Battlemaster. Gg
Man, I think they should really make so that the tavern brawler bonus for thrown items doesn't apply to martial weapons. Makes sense thematically and would be a bit less broken.
Yeah I gotta admit it's way too good compared to the other feats
Another thing you can do to kill Gut without aggroing everyone: take the sleep potion she offers, but then save your strength. Raphael's servant will save you by killing Gut and the ogre
This sounds way easier than what I did lmao
Good job on the video 👍
hey, about the thrown weapon...
i think it always comes back properly, unless you spam throw action before it comes back.
always wait a second or two until you hear that sound of the weapon coming back and you are good to go to throw again
