After watching your first declutter video with the professional, I hired one local to me. I paid for 32 hours. It was the absolute best thing I have ever spent money on. We did my entire house in 28 hours, so for the last 4 hours we did the walk in attic. With her help, I did it. I donated so much stuff. I cannot believe how much I had stuffed into this house. For reference it’s about 3000 sq.ft. 5 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms. We went through every closet, drawer, cabinet etc… I put my hands on every single item in this house. I wish I could show before and after pics on here.
I had never thought about hiring someone to help me past feeling paralyzed every time I walked into a room. Everything has a home and a purpose. Thank you so much. It has helped my mental health so much.

@@got_style it wasn’t cheap. I eventually saw it as an investment in my mental health. It was 2000.00 for the 32 hours. She also had hourly rates, but the bundles had discounts. She also had a military discount.

I think that is AMAZING! Both of you are showing all of us that we deserve to take care of ourselves and investing in the support that is needed! I'm so happy for you! And doesn't it feel great that someone, somewhere, is benefitting from the items you donated? I tell myself that every time I hesitate about keeping something I don't really use!

Professional organizer here… The less you have, is the less you have to manage !!
I go through my closet left to right and if I cannot make an outfit or I don’t love it or if I’m not reaching for it it goes… I’m also a minimalist so there is that

same here. I do this for a living. Great to see how much she got rid of, but in reality, she could have gotten rid of 50% more of what she kept. Even if you only do laundry once a week, that is only 7 t-shirts, 7 jammies etc. Hope she goes through them again and gets rid of more

I'm decluttering with you and taking those steps to be free from the stuff! The thing I find hardest for me is actually getting the stuff out once I declutter it. I found a bag of shoes I was supposed to donate in Dec 2021 still in my storage room. I get postcards offering to pick up donations for various organizations all the time and I have started actually using them! It has made the biggest difference for me! Scan the QR code, pick a date, leave the donations on my porch and done! I love it! Great job Jia!

The overwhelm comes from the decision process. It's the memories tied into the clothing, the dreams you had for it, which comes along with the dreams and thoughts you have about yourself, which leads to decision paralysis...it's so freeing when you're finally done and the process becomes less time/energy consuming! You're getting there mama!

Great job! I hang the majority of my clothing including loungewear and workout clothes. Once you go through your closet you might have enough space to hang some of those items instead of putting them in your drawers since you have more hanging space than drawer space.

I base my decisions on how many items of clothes and towels to keep on how often I do laundry. Since I do laundry once a week, I only really need 7 pairs of underwear, for example (though I currently have about a dozen just for variety). Same with sleepwear. Keep enough for one or two weeks. It will wear out faster, so rotate out a few of the most worn items at the end of the season when that season's styles are on sale. When you have too many clothes, you tend to procrastinate about doing laundry.

I have a hard time staying focused on one task to completion. I am working on my pantry, which is very daunting. I took 3 or 4 days off from working on it and am finding it difficult to get back to it...BUT!! Watching another of your videos has encouraged me to get back at it.
I know this may sound silly, but I refer myself as "this lady" and tell myself I am helping this lady get organized and she deserves it! Taking "me" out of it and committing to helping "this lady"...lol it's helping...gotta do whatever it takes! 😁

Hiii great work! Check one off the list! Guess what I did today… cleaned out my closet!! It took over 4 hours but I was inspired by your work with your professional organizer. I’m a recent widow so that makes it all harder. My hubs tried arranging our clothes when we moved in a year but i wasn’t happy with it (lol) and then a bunch of other stuff got chunked in there until I couldn’t even walk inside. Needless to say I have the work of deciding what stuff of his to donate or keep. I kept y’all in mind doing the four hour block of work. Minimal breaks. Just take it all out, try not to overthink and sort it back in better. What a relief!!! All the moving boxes are out! I can stand in there with the door shut to get dressed if I want :)

I feel you! I was overwhelmed with not having room for all of my apparel…I just knew the only way I could get organized was by getting rid of my older clothes. If I hadn’t worn it in a year it was out. Also, I have all of my t shirts, tops, and jackets hanging in my closet. That’s my rule from here on out. It is working great but I can’t be lazy after washing and drying a load. I need to get the items to their destination right away.

Also, my dresser is divided up by socks, bras, underwear, bathing suits, and tank tops/camis. One drawer for each. Then in my other dresser/stand I have all pants and pajamas. I should also mention that in my closet I have all my cold weather apparel hanging toward the back and my springish/summery stuff toward the front. It’s a must try!

Folding takes so much time and effort. I started hanging everything. T-shirts, sweatpants, shorts. I have a small dresser for underwear, socks, and out of season items. Everything else gets hung up. If it gets crowded, I declutter. I also aim to 8 or fewer of each type of item. I do laundry at least once a week, so no need for more than 8 t-shirts, 8 dress shirts, 8 pairs of pants, etc. If you go that route, lay out all of one type and pick your favorite (whatever your number is) and donate the rest.

Well done on tackling the dresser. You did great with donations. I find having a timer great. You’ve decided already you are going to do it over a few days so set your time for an hour and once it goes off you can leave it. Even if you come back after a few hours to do another half hour set the timer. Remember you didn’t bring everything in to the closet in a day don’t expect or put yourself under pressure to get rid of it in a day or two either. Be patient and kind with yourself. Have a great week. Mary, Joes wife 👏👍💪🙏💐

When decluttering I do a thing called “halfies” meaning if I have a ton of leggings or shoes or purses etc and I know I should get rid of most of them but can’t seem to part with them I just get rid of half of them. So if I have 20 leggings I get rid of 10. I mean who needs more than 10 leggings especially if you are doing laundry at least once a week. Right?

Right now, I am also having to store away seasonal clothing and I really don't have any more space in my closet or the one dresser I have in my room. If I come across something I really don't need, it goes into the donation bag. I have a few of them. Thanks for giving me the motivation to keep moving and finally getting it done.

Girl I feel for you!!!! Tackling that inventory is not for the weak and you did a good job. Maybe you can do a body double with someone like Dawn suggests. Watching people do the same thing helps me get task done fast. For my sanity, I need the inventory to be low. I love not having too much clothes and then when I don’t love it or wore the life out of it, I donate and start fresh. Clothing is replaceable, but I try to get less of better quality if I can so it can stretch. To help with making less decisions, I only wear black undergarments socks, shoes and bras because it never shows under my clothes and it always matches.

Glad that you found peace with yourself! How often do you do laundry? That's how many sets of PJS I would keep of each type. And since you say you have very specific categories of PJs I would accommodate for that. So you do laundry every 3 days I would personally would keep 3 night gowns, 3 sets, and 3 unmatched set (you know, t shirt and pants). That's still a lot to choose! : ) Just a thought! Might help with the amount of laundry you do.

I think I'd start by putting away the stuff I know I want to keep and then decide what to keep from the rest of the stuff based off the space I have to store it. I also like the folding/filing method. I have some Ikea bins in my drawers to make it even easier. The Ikea dresser also helped me because I went from having four large drawers to having eight smaller drawers that my husband and I share. I did keep some items for when I lose weight but I store them in my basement so they don't up valuable real estate in my dresser.

😂😂😂 you said you had a ridiculous amount of leggings and then proceeded to put less than half the leggings I own into the drawer.

If you have adhd, anxiety or things like that, pulling everything out all at once and in a huge pile is way too overwhelming and you will stall. Just a tip, go drawer by drawer so you're not wasting all your brain power. Take breaks, and drink water 😜

next time you pass up something in your dresser thinking "eh, don't really like it" - donate it immediately. Trust your gut.

For donation motivation, try this mental trick: Pretend you've won a weeklong vacation. The catch? Someone who doesn't know you is going to go through your dresser and closet and choose which clothes to pack! When you open that suitcase- of YOUR OWN CLOTHES- what are the odds that you'll like everything you see and that it's all going to fit properly? You might be stuck with a pair of "I'm going to drop 10 pounds" jeans, the "It's pretty but it jabs" bra and the ugly sweater you got as a present and are too polite to get rid of. Be realistic. Be ruthless! Keep up the good work!
