Thank you Father. Pride sneaks up so easily without me knowing it. I realize that obligation made me blind and in fact distanced me from Christ. It really feels like God is telling me to relax and if l fall to Just get back up again; l haven't left, still here beside you. I really needed to hear this.
I went this summer to the monastery where elder Arsenie Papacioc is buried. I found so much peace in his cell that I did not want to leave. A true saint that sanctified that place with his prayers.
honestly, this is something I struggled with first. But over time I realized how dumb it was. Just follow your prayer rule, do the obedience's you can etc. However constantly strive unceasingly pray. The spiritual life is not something to have a check off list, but its something more like guidelines. These "guidelines" help us grow spiritually.
Thank you. It’s been hard to rewire my brain from a Protestant staunchly promulgated anti-action mindset to Orthodoxy. One thing that attracted me to Orthodoxy was I didn’t notice that hyper fixation on anti-action. There were “things to do” in Orthodoxy. But like you said, it seems to be more of “there are tools, and medicines that can be applied” opposed to: “If you do xyz, than it will guarantee that you will be saved in the end, so do that and you can go home.”
@@Maria-g1o3z Anti-action means anti-works. Usually in the Calvinistic Protestant world the strong emphasis on “salvation is not earned or worked for” ends up translating as “don’t do things” because you don’t want to look proud or appearing as you are trying to buy your way into heaven. Good vs a bad type of “working” or “action” is almost never talked about so it ends up all blurring together, and the assumption becomes any action is useless or bad.
@RandomOccurrences I was very active in a Reformed Protestant Church for years, so I do know. “You don’t understand” is the standard response to criticism of reformed theology.
psalm 63: O God, You are my God; I seek You in a parched and weary land that has no water, so i have visions of You in the sanctuary of Your might and glory. Your loving-kindness is better than life, so my lips praise You, so i will bless You as long as i live, as i lift up my hands in Your name. my soul will be nourished as with a rich feast; my mouth will sing praises with joyful lips. i think of You upon my bed; i contemplate You in the vigil of night, for You have been my help, and i revel in the shade of Your wings. my soul clings to You; Your Right Hand supports me.
Really good talk! I am convinced that christ rejoices if we just give our best throughout the day and repent immediately if we mess up. If we feel that we were sloppy with our spiritual life, a prayer of repentance in the evening should do the job. If we torture ourselves for sins we have confessed, I feel like we offend christ more for not trusting him and his sacrifice than for missing out on a fast because we were busy. I actually feel like not accepting his forgiveness is a sin that gets us very far from him very fast. He doesn't require me to be like a Saint to love me. But he requires me to trust him and not to make me the judge. His love is perfect. ❤
This is valuable advice. It really helps me keep the right mindset. The comparison to how we eat breakfast even if we were late was great. “The whole day is not lost.” “ I need to use these things as medicines.”
Beautifully stated Father. I love this mentality and I am going to continue to use this thinking moving forward. I have definitely questioned and done exactly what you stated about checking off the boxes and my pride getting in the way. Thank you again Father for your wise words. I love your channel.
Holy father Arsenie Papacioc îs my spiritual grandfather, because my spiritual father was his disciple. Nu l-am cunoscut niciodată și tare mult mi-aș fi dorit! Iertare!
Ummm.. the titles of this seem too well times I JUST had my first meeting with the Priest at the Orthodox Church I've been attending with needing all my boxes checks sin order to commit and be baptized as my theme of conversation. I don't know that this will b the same theme by the sounds of the first minute... But that's weird. I was announced with Holy Myhr from the Iveron icon and I've been googling because it smells like rose oil not Myhr. I'm happy you have a channel. Your series with Matt...I forgot his name the guy who tours Churches you helped me to find Orthodoxy..maybe it's Matt Whitman?
This is definitely an area of growth for me as I continue my journey into the church, so I appreciate the words on this topic. Tangential question, where can the book referenced in the video be boughten?

Thank you Father I am a Catholic priest and this is so liberating to me.

another thing that helps, reading. scripture, the fathers, saints and the patristics. However look on how we can apply this to our lives
As a catechumen I thank you for your guidance, Father! May the blessings of the Lord be abundant and everlasting for you ☦️
Amin!!!!!. 😌🤌💕.

What do you mean by anti-action?

There is also a fatalism view that can stem from some Calvinist views. Which reinforces the anti action, prideful way.@@LadderOfDescent

@RandomOccurrences I understand the reformed view on works.
How do you know or confirm that you are the elect?
