*Season 8 and Season 13: Brooke and Amber* As we're watching Season 8 alongside Season 13, it's hard not to see comparisons and notice certain parallels. For instance, the way Amber is putting on a show of a happy family, knowing that Kimberly is watching and having the two families as spectators too. This is very much like what we're currently seeing in Season 8, where Brooke was putting on a show of her happy family with Ridge and the kids for Taylor's benefit and once again the Forresters and the Spectras were also in attendance. Indeed in both cases, it's all happening at the site of Thorne and Macy's wedding! (only in Season 8 they actually get happily married) And in both cases, the facade doesn't last. Brooke's family portrait is torn asunder later that very evening when Rick and CJ get into a fight and all the skeletons of Eric Jr's paternity are exposed. And soon Amber's family portrait will be ruined as well, once again in a storyline involving Rick and CJ (and Kimberly and Becky) where the skeletons of Little Eric's paternity (and maternity!) are also exposed. This parallel makes Amber seem like the new Brooke, which is the obvious comparison but there are important differences. As I wrote in episode 3192, Amber’s relationship with Tawny is a mirror of Taylor’s relationship with Stephanie and indeed Amber is also supported by Stephanie. That prevents Amber from fully becoming the new Brooke and thus prevents Brooke from becoming the new Stephanie but nevertheless, Amber remains a Bad Girl who’s not a Villain which is very much the space Brooke has always occupied.
Great observation! It's really interesting to me how much value is actually _added_ by watching these two seasons at once, because so much that happens in Season 13 is based on plot points that were already in play in Season 8 - Brooke's relationships with Ridge and Eric and the tension that leads to between Brooke's "first and second choices", Thorne and Macy's history, the way Rick is affected by his complicated childhood, the Brooke/Amber parallels, the Spectra/Forrester dynamic, and so on. It's clear that Season 13 has a very strong foundation in the show's history.
@@annieo6527 Yes exactly! The show definitely has a set of formulas it recycles and the trick is whether they make them feel fresh and how good the story structure and archetypes are. Season 13 _benefits_ from comparisons to Season 8.

This is exactly it. Everyone is so caught up in Stephanie's feelings and Stephanie's health and how she can't have any stress, that they are completely forgetting that Macy also has feelings, and _also_ has a health issue which makes her sensitive to stress.

Kids often might get a Christmas present they _have not asked for_ _do not really want_ but still will smile and play with that present a bit. But yes, this is going to be a *_Christmas present_* that Thorne does not want to open or keep.
