This is my dream car! I had been an Audi A6 Avant guy forever but Audi has refused to sell them in the USA for more than 10 years now! These seem to be about the same price range but way nicer. One of these, maybe not brand new (but new enough), is going to be my next car! 😍
Great review. I'm starting to look for a wagon to replace my 2004 GX470 SUV and the E450 is probably the one I am most interested in. As a car enthusiast and tech geek you really touched on almost all of the things that I am interested in (save the audio system - I do like my music!) and I appreciate it!
Thanks for the wonderful review. Wagons are definitely a good choice. There are a very few car reviewers who actually show the cars at night and talk about ambient lighting and other stuffs when the car interior gets more colourful, that shows you give attention to detail! Extra brownie points:D
Thanks! I do want to incorporate night reviewing in all of my videos. I feel like it is very important as, well, most people drive their cars at night too!
Thank god someone reviewed this wagon as an enthusiast. Thank you. Seems this thing does reward some spirited driving. A possible replacement for my Volvo V70R. Love the 3rd row seats!
Good job! We have 2018 E400. With ECU tune. Its a perfect vehicle with plenty of comfort and power. Very rare even in So Cal. The dual 12” screens are a must. We passed up several 2017 models to get the dual screen.
Joe Cordero Very cool! How much power do you have with the tune? I do like the 12” screen in the gauge cluster option but I felt as though I wasn’t missing much personally.
Hi Andrew, the OBD2 tune flash is from OE turning. Office located in So Cal. They average 50-60 WHP and 60-70WTQ... putting the car just over 400hp/420tq fly wheel. Feels just right for a daily driver and a car used mostly by wife and our kids. Tune cost under $1k and reversible in a matter of minutes. @@TheAutoInformant
My parents got a 2019 e450 luxury sedan used for 52000 dollars. It's a great comfortable car. When I saw this review, It also persuaded me that the e450 was the right choice for my 50 year old mother with the smooth, high ride. It was definitely an upgrade to the aging 2012 e350 sport we had before. One thing I'll admit is the 2012 e class was more boxy and had more sportiness.
I'm so glad they giving these cars and SUV and driving them respect a luxury car or suv are not for racing or drag racing or burn out they are for luxury and relax when driving and family suv or car or wagon it speaks for itself thank u for the respect and not treating it as a race car
Good review. You got a follow. This is my next vehicle. Have been a Mercedes owner for 25 years (with a 2014 Audi S6 in the mix) and I really like this car. Hate SUVs and I need something with storage so I'm going back to the 1970s when the wagon was the way to go, and the Suburban was the only SUV. Thanks for a great review!
@@pedromartins6226 I prefer Audi but too many things have happened with the brand (and the VW family of brands) and my local dealership for me to buy another. Short answer, Mercedes.

Great all-around car and I found this to be much more useful video than Doug demuros video on the AMG wagon which no one's going to buy. Very nice to see Wilsonville! The rain in the video didn't bother me a bit. I just wish you had measured out door dimensions in the back I'm trying to figure out if I could fit a three-wheel recumbent bicycle in one of those just out of curiosity.
Glad the video was helpful! In the future, I will try to do measurements of the rear cargo area on cars like this. I will say the rear cargo area is big, but perhaps a bit lacking over the previous iterations of the E-Class wagon.
What a good job you did on this review! I didn't know there was anything between the basic E-Class Estate Wagon and the AMG. I don't need the AMG and don't need the attention either. Think I'll test drive one of these soon. Thanks again Andrew.
Thank you! I'm glad my review was helpful. The E450 is actually the base model wagon in the US, but it's the perfect motor for this car in my opinion. Yes, the 63 would be so much fun but my goodness is it expensive!
@@TheAutoInformant The 63 is a lease vehicle IMHO. Hand built engines are good for abusing and getting rid of after 2-3 years. This new mild hybrid 450 engine is "the perfect motor for this car."
Don’t hesitate. Buy one while you can. I’ve owned numerous cars and trucks. The wagon may the best ever and sadly as a market we ignore it. Seats seven, can tow up to 6000lbs with a Stealth Hitch. Yakima or Thule bars on top? Are you kidding me. And inside it is plush and wonderful.
I love the self-parking capabilities of the new E-class -- never driven a car that has this feature, and it must feel a bit weird letting car doing the decision making. If you hit something while on autonomous parking who's fault would it be - Mercedes or you? - "Sorry ma'm it's my car, it wasn't me."
It is strange at first, but I have noticed these systems tend to be more cautious than we are as humans. If the car hits anything, it would generally be the drivers fault because you are always supposed to be aware and able to take over if anything bad starts to happen. It's not claiming to be fully autonomous unfortunately. As these systems develop, I'm sure that line will begin to grey.
I bought one two months ago. It is very fast and handles very well. I love blowing past people in what looks like a sedan for older people (which I am), but drives like a bat out of hell. And I can put so much in the back, seats down or not, it's like a big SUV except it drives and handles pretty much like a sedan. I find the ride a bit jolting, but just a bit, at times, but remember that this handles. I am fortunate to be able to drive this car. My one adverse thought is the expense of long-term ownership of a car that is so computer-controlled and is a MB. God forbid I have a computer issue when I am out of warranty! Well, there is always an extended warranty available. For a price. And by the way, Americans don't like wagons but MB seems to load some dealers with a lot of these 450's, so you can buy this under dealer cost. Try that with an E 450 convertible or sedan.
I agree. Very good handling and plenty of power. I think if long term ownership is the goal, Mercedes has a really good CPO program and would more than likely pay for it's self after a few years. I believe MB sells a lot more GLC 300's as they fit the American market very well, but these wagons are still so much cooler!
@@TheAutoInformant Thanks for reading my response. Well, the GLC is seriously utilitarian and seriously tedious, but much less expensive.. As is the sedan. I had a C Coupe, white with raspberry leather, that I should have kept, but it really had a rough ride consistent with its performance, though I had the smallest engine. And it barely fit golf clubs or anything else. A Porsche feels more spacious (kidding). There are not a lot of used wagons on the market, and in any event they don't have the power, handling, or safety features of the 2019. Meanwhile, since Americans, unlike Europeans (and especially Germans), don't like the wagon, and it is essentially anathema in the US, it can be had new at a great price for what it is, but probably hard to resell and in any event it probably depreciates quickly, at least initially. But what a great car! (Long comment, apologies.)
@@jonshepard85 I drove the C43 Coupe and with that motor, it makes a lot more sense. I feel like the base C300 coupe would be a bit of a let down. It is nice that we can have the wagons less than MSRP but sad they are not more popular. I think the wagons might be hard to resell in the short term, but long term they will be very easy to sell. Just look at the 2000-2007 E-Class (Two different chassis). Same situation, wagons did not sell well but now they are coveted. It's just the way things are sadly.
I have this wagon. Thanks for showing me how to use the self park mode. Very cool. Do you know if I can put a hitch on my car for a bike rack. I’m getting conflicting information. Good video!
Sally, I'm glad my video helped you out! That's what I'm here for. As far as the hitch, yes you can instal one. I've seen E450/E400 Wagons with them. I would either car your local dealer or, if that fails, another local trailer specialty shop.
if you have decent upper body strength you should avoid it. the rear bumper needs to be removed and further you have to take off the hunk of metal sticking up to hold your bikes to access the back. I have a Thule roof rack for my bikes (I can attach 3 on top of this car) and it costs less than a trailer hitch set up. Again, you need to be strong and tall enough to put your bike on top of your car of course but with a step stool it makes it easier.

I wish the US government would ban crossovers, either buy a wagon or a truck based SUV. Crossovers are ugly, limited cargo room and can't go off road... Wagons handle great, are roomy and have a smooth ride.. Love my E350 4matic wagon
Just bought one, love it. Did tons of research and found it to be one heck of a car. Have read that Mercedes will not continue the E wagon with the next generation. Instead they will offer a C-class wagon which I think is a mistake. I agree that a plug-in hybrid version would be awesome.
Thanks for the review. The older I get, the more interested I am with station wagons...
That was probably the best e class review i've seen so far. The fact that it's a wagon makes it even better!
I checked out MB sedans and SUV's, but soon realized my wife's 2004 E500 wagon had them all beat. We are now a two Wagon (2019) family and very happy.
