The cards can be reused by tying a string or ribbons across the room and place the old Christmas cards on then as it divides the picture in the front. It will look beautiful too.
Turn your old cards into "thinking of you" cards. Then check your local nursing homes to see if they would like your "repurposed" cards for residents who never get mail. . I found a home that would even take them without envelopes so it saved me the cost of buying them .
