    Lessons :
    1. Rehearse as you are presenting
    2. No filler words
    3. Speaking with confidence with stronger level of volume
    4. Speaking at a pace not too fast (Rehearsal)
    5. Making eye contact with audience
    6. Keep the slides extremely simple

    Great stuff. 👏🏻👏🏻
    There are another two common mistakes I’ve noticed when we speak:
    1. Repetition - some talk about the same thing over and over again
    2. Poor time management: most of the time exceeding the allotted time

    In my deep psychological experience, I speak fast when there is a theme I am ashamed of speaking.
    Whenever I think or feel as if people were going to shun me for be mentioning those themes.
    But I have made the experiment to start to speak SLOWLY and clearly and with a Strong volume voice about those same themes (almost like repeating a sentence: going back to the beginning, and repeating it safely: with a strong volume and a SLOW, articulate, and confident pace),
    And not only the people are not taken aback by me tackling those subjects anyhow
    But my own anxiety is cleared!
    To speak slowly and loudly about them clears all my anxiety!!!!! And helps define to a crisp - clarity everything I had to think of them.
    Vihn ❤ often talks about how we should speak, to communicate things we already have in mind,
    But a much deeper, vaster subject is: how does the way we speak shapes what we think: what we get to feel and think: what we are. What we get to see take shape in our heads and hearts and minds.

    Vingh....you nailed it about rehearsal and it was a cinch for me at a recent presentation I delivered. Got an applause because I was smooth and it was not something I was use to. So guys rehearsal does it.

  • @chutracey8666
    @chutracey8666 Рік тому

    My common mistake is being too fast when i speak. I have loud voice when i speak, because i like my message to be understood. Also one thing I've learnt is to rehearse as many times. There are times i write a presentation and rehearse just twice and it gives me that anxiety, kimd of trembling voice when I'm presenting and i don't really feel good about that. So from today i will rehearse 120times per 1min presentation. A million thanks 😊

  • @mariom5307
    @mariom5307 Рік тому +2

    Again I agree to almost everything presented here. Later on you say people should know what they want to say inside out and that's what I agree on. The focus on brutal rehearsal is good for someone (like you) who has to deliver spot on in a tight timeframe. If you know WHAT to say you can adjust HOW you say it by looking at an feeling the audience. It lets you speak freely and be really in that moment. That's the moment when you transit from someone who imitates someone competent to someone who actually is. So MY version of your otherwise amazing advice would be to spend that time thinking about the key points that have to come across rather than repeating the show endlessly. But as said before, that depends on the kind of delivery you have to perform. Thank you again for your video :)

    Hey! I am able to speak a lot w.o rehearsing bc I am a teacher, and I have been researching my subjects for years now. And I speak with a lot of enthusiasm and eye contact.
    However, for my next round of classes in the 2024 i will try to rehearse, so I can feel more confident and less chaotic

    As always, fantastic video!!!!! ❤
    And I would also add:
    ~ fidgeting (touching hair, necklace, leg shaking, rocking back and forth, playing with a pen/bottle, etc).
    ~ gesticulating too much or too little (too much is distracting. Too little doesn’t match the narrative or it’s very bland).

    I was going to ask "What happened to number 6?" I also think that reahearsing in the later stages with a small audience of people you trust can really help, just having people to make eye contact with and who will support you but also give you honest feedback, is very important.

    my dad was a great public speaker he will often read a presentation, full voice and all (sometimes 45 min or more) over, and over, so much so that more often than not I went to check if he was ok, because by the end his voice reverberated from the back of the first floor to the front of my house on the second floor as he gained confidence with each rehearsal, he was an amateur actor and teacher so maybe that's where he got his methods, never got to ask him, but his deep voice would have been nothing w/o the rehearsal and the confidence and volume that knowing your shit does for you

    Wow! This is really helpful and I will practice! I have a new roll as an emcee...opening in-person summits and education, introducing speakers, giving directions to attendees and closing things out. I have no training in public speaking, but I feel I'm pretty good at being on stage, projecting my voice, not using "um" and going slow. What I need help with is how to open / start. I currently do a quick "thank you for being here" and then jump in. But I feel like it doesn't make people settle in and get comfortable. And suggestions? Like opening by making people laugh or building some kind of report.

    Vinh - If your 1-hr talk demands 120 rehearsals, then how can I efficiently rehearse if I have to give a new topic every Sunday for 30 min? I do agree that repeated rehearsals will remove many problems found in a bad speech - lack of eye contact, overly dependence on notes, always thinking "what's my next point again?", weak body movement, etc... Hope you can provide insight to someone like me who needs to live within the restraint of that weekly teaching deadline...Thanks Vinh. BTW, I'm a student on your Stage Academy.

      Focus on the idea that is being expressed rather than getting caught up in the details. That should eat and giving you a more balanced approach to the best of your ability as you develop. If you're giving presentations every Sunday I need to rehearse consistently you'll still be developing for the long term. Willfully that was helpful. Keep growing!

      by that, I think he means practice as much as you can. My guess is that you're a pastor ;) My pastor's volume is just fine, good eye contact. His slides, however, are too busy. He also depends too much on his slides. Basically he can't preach without the slides. I assume he doesn't rehearse enough. People want to hear him preach, not read the slides. Unfortunately most pastors read from their notes instead of preaching.

    Not sure if I need to change that approach as it is effective with those listening in. Is it my wife being a stickler or is it an issue I need to address?
