3D Shapes Illustrator Tutorial (80s Memphis Pattern)

- In today's Adobe Illustrator tutorial I'm going to show you some useful techniques for creating colourful vector art with a 3D style. We'll be basing the design on the rad patterns of geometric shapes and squiggly lines from the 80s, known as Memphis patterns, but adding a modern twist with gradient overlays to give the artwork a nice vibrant appearance.

Just came across this and with the updated illustrator I'm having issues. The shapes don't want to vectorize and won't take a fill. Any suggestions?
Actually symbol sprayer is great for patterns, but not this type of pattern, more for pattern like you've done tutorial for PS not so long ago with this skull with horns pattern since symbols can have shadows, you can make perfectly seamless texture from one object, or few. It's great technique for things like coffee beans pattern texture, bones, BG made from logotypes, even pickles if you want, and best part is you can convert illustrator pattern for photoshop and animate it there (which is bit tricky to make perfect loop), or just use one tile of pattern in AE with motion tile effect and animate.
This is one example which I animated with photoshop (after effects is realy better in rendering):

You inspired me to basicly invent this technique, so big thank you.
