I see some negative comments appearing, which is sad. As a guitar player, or any kind of musician, you should aspire to allow all sorts of playing and instruments into your sphere of attention. There is something to be learned from every genre. Be a sponge, absorb everything. A jazz guitarist can learn a lot from listening to, say, John Coltrane's sax playing. So why wouldn't a guitarist be open to listening to banjo, sitar, sax, piano. All of them offer insights into harmony, chord voicings, scales, phrasing and above all approach. Wise up and learn. Nelly clearly knows this already, he's got a lot to teach if your open minded enough to listen. Offering a sitar busking video to a slide guitar audience is a wise move. Watch Derek Trucks if you can't see that point.
3 strings, £20 crap Encore guitar, but you made it sound amazing! A lot of newbie guitar players are always asking the questions: What kind of guitar do you use, what amp, etc. But you just proved that the equipment doesn't matter. Cool.
Does anyone know how to add trailer to youtube?,the help says ,click on site name in the navigation bar and the option will appear.spent 2 hours going nowhere fast, had many days like this......learning all the time tho,all good!
A three verse (one for each string) tribute to the Blues man Nelly. Goin down the secondhand shop tomorrow, goin to buy me a three string guitar. Said I'm goin down that shop tomorrow, goin home with a three string guitar. Don't care which make or model, me an that three stringer, we'll go far. Now my woman she ask me, why did you buy that trash. My woman she ask me, why did you buy that piece "o" trash. I said, woman stop complainin, With Nellys help, I saved loads of cash. I took that three stringer, a tube "o" steel, and I played the blues. Yeah I took that three stringer, some Nellytonic tuning, and I played the blues. Gonna follow Nellys teachins, 'Cos I sure as hell, aint got nothin to lose. Keep on sliding Nelly.
I LOVE THESE TIPS AND LAID-BACK LESSONS! Nelly is fun to watch and the simple approach takes the scare out of trying to be perfect learning slide. A 3 string, crap guitar can sound great I Love that! Don't need a Les Paul to sound good-it's how ya play.
Love your vids mate. just stumbled across them today. Just started learning open g slide last week and was looking for tips. Love your enthusiasm and no bullshit approach to teaching. Learnt a helluva lot in a short space of time. Thanx a lot Nelly. Keep on rockin son!
Hope you're well man, nice bit of teaching, one of the guitars I play slide on was going to the dump if didn't want it,I painted an underwater picture on it,you can hardly fret it the actions so high! Even famous 80s strong man Geoff capes wouldn't be able to push the strings down at the twelfth fret, but for delta type numbers its fantastic,it sounds beautiful
I was curious about tuning for slide guitar. Nelly, it's so very kind of you to share your knowledge and experiences. I love the vid of you playing the sitar in the garden. What a perfect place for sitar music. Stay well and carry on, cheers!
it amazes me that i can hardly watch a great movie or video that costs thousands to millions to make without skipping through it. somehow with little to no editing i wont skip through yours!
Awesome lesson Nelly! You've inspired me too break out my slide,"which is one of my weakest skills." I'll give open E a chance as well as open G which i really dig as i'm a huge Keith Richards fan! Next time my friend!
Really good video, niel! The first part with the broken guitar was really awesome, you showed it doesn't matter what you play, it's the player that counts! Also learned a new way to tune the guitar, good stuff! And thanks for showing how sliding works :D
Nelly! I love your playing, you have inspired me to pick up this art. I already play without a slide but now it's all about to change! Also, you should set up your camera while you are out busking. I would watch the hell out of that man! Cheers from the US! Keep rocking
Great video! You broke it down and cut through the BS about equipment and just said what needed to be said. I'm glad I subscribed for this video alone!
Nelly, from one guitarist to another, I really like your guitar playing style and the guitars you collect are wicked cool. Anyways I just wanted to say that as a basic rule of thumb with making videos or taking pictures, always remember to put the light BEHIND the camera; that way your face doesn't get washed-out like it did in this video. Best Regards!
Mate, you're such a great character and make wonderful lessons. Been playing for over ten years, but never felt compelled or comfortable playing slide. Jeremy Spencer put me off too. You have changed things. Thank you :-) Like, subscribed... Check
I know it was a dogdy an, I live in basement flat,it was sunny outside,,gotta get light for filkming, like rob has! number 37 on list of stuff i need to buy!! My wah pedal packed up too on saturday when i was busking!
Thanks so much for this slide lesson. You answered a lot of questions I have had about slide. Especially tuning because I had been trying to play slide with standard tuning and wondered why I sucked. So, thank you for clearing up some stuff for me. Looking forward to more slide instruction! I have heard something on the internet about how the C6 tuning is good for slide but don't know much about it. I am sure you will cover that at some time.
I think the lighting looks great after the camera repoint, and the playing is killer as usual. I've always loved slide before, but never tried it myself with any great success. You're combination of technique and inspiration made me do it. Rock on Nelly-
Cheers man! Just started playing slide for the first time, this really helped. Maybe next time you could teach us something from your awesome new album?
All good.plenty more coming....Next Video will feature a Tutorial on Using Guitar Rig 5.I Know a lot people using this but not getting best out of it. I will show you how !! Ahoy
Love your videos, I am a slide player both electric and Resonator guitar. When I play it's not for anybody but myself. I could never gig as you would call it, to shy I guess. My wife loves my slide playing and wants me to share my passion with other family members, any suggestions on a very shy guy who loves my guitars but only want to play for myself.
Hi Joseph H, my boyfriend is the same way; he just plays for himself. He's 52 years old, been playing since he was 8, and has NEVER gigged out. He says he plays music for music's sake. He says he can't imagine anyone wanting to pay to hear him. He says he can't imagine making a living as a professional musician. Shy? Probably. He doesn't even like to play for me!
I must say mate, To me ya sound like an Australia , OZZY n i love thet cause ya dont talk shit ya say is n ya play it, I cant play for shit but ya helped me and i thank you, .....Onya buddy! Jason !
Hey Nelly, I was wondering about the different tunings. You say you can take any major chord and make an open tuning out of it, so does that imply that if you wanted an open g tuning, that you would tune up? But when you go to an actual open g, you tune the guitar down. I just want this to be explained more.
In time will cover more tunings ,been so busy, spreading myself thin over hundreds of thing i gotta do....its only me,doing everything. My album .(been in studio) and download site been taking up all my time over past month.....due to release in days...perparing media stuff and /press releasaes, but once this is done,I can concentrate on video's more! Ahoy
awesome lesson, I need to pick up one of those pieces of crap guitars and make a lap steel guitar out of it buy putting a different nut on it to raise the action.
High praise....I love that mid 70's kinda style of music. The Faces ,with Ronnie Wood and Rod Stewart. Of course the Stones...they made a career from open tunings. Great sound. H.N.Y. to you sir !
I have a problem with left hand, i mean carpal tendon on down side of hand and fingers is pain no fillings etx.c. Becacuse covid iperation od about 5 min is impossible?? Nelly! I love your playing, you have inspired me to pick up this art. I already play without a slide but now it's all about to change! Also, you should set up your camera while you are out busking. I would watch the hell out of that man! Cheers from the US! Keep rocking

it is a 003,one of first ones, bought it when just come out 4 or 5 years ago
Pro tools Rocks, also use Ableton. for midi stuff
Maybe I missed it. What was the tuning with the 3 string? great stuff!
sweet
I must say mate, To me ya sound like an Australia , OZZY n i love thet cause ya dont talk shit ya say is n ya play it, I cant play for shit but ya helped me and i thank you, .....Onya buddy! Jason !
is a great sacrilege play blues with floyd rose !!! I'm kidding, you play very well in any of these instruments
My favorite tunings are Open G, Drop D, Eb (E#A#D#G#B#E#) and Standard ;)
Not to be rude or anything but there is no B#. A B# would be a C
Sorry, my fault. I mean Eb tuning :D
Any more tutorials only just started slide
From 13:30 to 19:50 ish there's a blank space, dunno If I'm the only one.
Great video from what I saw, but black screen from 13 minute mark to about 20. :(
Great lesson man. Might want to have a quick edit of the video again, content was brill but its a little jumbled
learning every time, thanx for your comments!
Epic

Its because tuning the string that far up could snap it. When you tune down to an Open G it still has the same notes
Thanks. :)
awesome lesson, I need to pick up one of those pieces of crap guitars and make a lap steel guitar out of it buy putting a different nut on it to raise the action.
Sweet ml 2. Chappers would be proud
i know thats why i said it
Nelly, you look a bit like Ronnie Wood, but I think you play better :) Keep on Rockin', eh!
High praise....I love that mid 70's kinda style of music. The Faces ,with Ronnie Wood and Rod Stewart.
Of course the Stones...they made a career from open tunings. Great sound.
H.N.Y. to you sir !
ML2 sounding good :)
Great pick-ups..gonna start doing a monthly shredathon video.
yeaahh u know seasick steve ! what du u thing about jack white
hello from russia, please do more stuff like that Open G
ribbed! I see what you did there.
I have a problem with left hand, i mean carpal tendon on down side of hand and fingers is pain no fillings etx.c. Becacuse covid iperation od about 5 min is impossible??
