Shawna, Thank you and your co-star for showing us some great tips. My wife and I have learned that an old panty hose leg can be slid over the board to keep my skin from causing me to hang on the board. I also have used a double folder paper towel under my leg to improve the slippage. Take precautions so the surfer doesn’t slide right off the board; then you’ve got to call ☎️ 911, and that can be bad.
    Thanks again

Thanks to you and your senior costar for showing this transfer in a real home with the kind of chair many folks have. Showing people with different ages and body types (not just therapists) makes things more relatable for families and friends who are learning how to do this for the first time.

I watched this on my streaming roku...logged in on computer just to 'like' and 'subscribe'. This was a tremendous blessing. I am the one who will use the board. I just recently learned that the boards exist. My family has increasingly had trouble getting me in and out of the car. This is a God-send. God bless you and thanks from the bottom of my heart. I saw where a hydraulic transfer device cost $6,000. That is just sinful highway robbery and taking advantage of the needy. A $70 board? Now, that is more charitable and kind. May God bless you 100-fold for your compassionate heart and wonderful help. I thank God I will be able to transfer by sliding....:-)

As a fellow therapist, thought this was excellent to show a home patient beforehand, especially when they are fearful. The bending forward to scoot forward can cause anxiety in some patients.

I recommend the wooden sliding boards for transferring from the wheelchair to/from the bed, recliner, shower chair, and cars. I recommend the specially designed pladtic toilet sliding board for toilet transfers. The toilet transfer board can be sanitized, left in the bathroom for easy access/use, and has a unique shape specifically designed to keep the toilet bowl "open" without having to remove the board.

thank you very much for your video...my sister cannot walk or stand after back surgery. She also have developed Drop foot which really makes it harder for her to learn to stand or walk. I am bringing her up here where I live. She was not able to take care of herself. She comes on Oct 17th...I have had to order a medical transport because she cant even get or use the bathroom and I want to start her in therapy when she gets here but in the meantime, she uses a slideboard by herself but I want to be able to help her as well. You seem very informative and patient and kind. Thanks for helping us to help them

I had more falls when I put the wheelchair at a 45 degree angle, I put the wheel chair directly in from of the bed. I use the sliding board to turn and slide and have never fallen. PTs have watched me and found it to be OK. Therapists are seldom around in my home to aid.

Question: I'm an old-timer and our transfer boards were solid or with horizontal hand holes. I see many now have vertical hand holes. They say user preference, and tried to find more info on it, but none. Do you have any input on the difference and the benefit of one or the other? Thx!

I used to also have a sliding board Shawna , but dont know what happened to it , I could'nt use it now even if I wanted , as I unfortunatly have'nt got the BALANCE now and I would need support for my back , so I have to use a HOIST to transfere me to bed and visa versa ,I have Spina Bifida / Hydrochalus and since 200/1 due a BAD FALL I now possibly have FYBROMYAGA although have no medical proof only my mum diagnosed me

  • @speedracer1945

That board is way too long . She needs a board 30 inches with hand grips . From a wheelchair to a chair the wheelchair must higher and vice versa. Problem I have with a recliner is the arms on the chair since you cant remove them like a wheelchair so you must tranfer to the seat cushion and hope your behind has enough room. Getting back too is a challenge. Anyone who can help please tell me .

There are several things I have done. I have a workout step that I carry in my trunk and use because it’s wide and even adjustable. When my patients are ready for discharge and the family doesn’t have a step, we performed the transfer using books with nonskid shelf liner. Let me know if you need a picture of the set up or any additional tips

@@shawnawatts5698 Thank you for the information. Could you also do a video of how to use a transfer board to get into an SUV. Someone I know has one I had been getting into and one time the board slipped out from under me. I ended up with a fractured femur. She wants me to get back in the car but I won't until I know how to do it more safely. I do not have good arm or abdominal strength.
