Our local Howard County Recreation & Parks department runs an incredible concert series every summer, the Sunset Serenades at Centennial Park Amphitheatre. They bring in local musical acts to perform for our friends, family, and neighbors in one of the beautiful public lakes in our community as the sun goes down behind the trees and the stars come out. This year we dodged the rain that bedevilled our prior appearances with this series and enjoyed a wonderful clear evening at the lakeside.
When Bart Howard wrote his cabaret ballad "In Other Words", he likely never suspected that it would come to be a major cultural touchstone of the forthcoming Space Race. The tune became popularly known as "Fly Me To The Moon" over a decade of misunderstood track listings, with the name changing in 1963 - just in time for the Apollo mission to adopt Frank Sinatra's 1964 recording as a mascot of source, travelling around the moon on Apollos 10 and 11 in 1969.
