But the production was so gruelling during the first season that Alex was getting burned out and so were others on the crew. Also, there's all of Disney's screwing around with the release of the episodes -- that was not entirely (or even mostly, AFAIK) due to production delays, it was just Disney. There was no good reason for season 1 to take TWO YEARS to air. Wanting to do a 3-season show that would take about 3 years to make is one thing. Doing a 3-season show that wouldn't be over for 6 years is another. (Like, I don't think they get paid for the amount of time a show runs, you know? They get paid for the work. So for the show to be prolonged like that, keeping them from going and getting other jobs, but them having to remain committed to it for twice as long as normal, must have been hard.) And on top of that, there's the burn-out. Alex couldn't stand the idea of leaving the story he wanted to tell unfinished, though. So his compromise with himself was to come back for a Season 2, that would wrap up the summer and the story he wanted to tell. That's why the 2nd half of S2 in particular feels "rushed". It was that, or chance never getting an end to the story at all. It's a testament to the show's great reputation and how popular it was that so many people made a point to follow it even with Disney's maddening random hiatuses. You gotta feel sorry for the casual kid viewer out there who might not have been plugged into the internet and known when new eps were going to air. It's just always seemed like a weird way for Disney to treat a show that they then turn around and say they want more of.)
If you look back in episode 9 (The Time Traveler's Pig), when Mabel and Dipper end up in the past where Grunkle Stan was younger, he's wearing those exact glasses.
Ya know when Stan walked in the room and said he didn’t know what the room was, I never noticed that there were glasses on the table, Stan picked them up. Hmm, wonder why…
19:10 , I tabbed back in after an hour From what I remember, Alex Hirsch, was the deciding or the motivating hand behind gravity falls His vision was for a show about two siblings visiting their uncle in a crazy mysterious town for the summer, and he didn't plan on writing anything past that While it was extremely successful, he didn't want to continue past this because his vision was completed at the end of season 2 Certain easier eggs make their connections in season 2, so it wasn't as if he hadn't written the stories for both seasons from the get go Anyways, Loved the reaction, This is my favorite cartoon of all time!
It's SO interesting to see all of your theoris. Are you super close? Super far away? You'll find out but it's super fun to see you try when already knowing the whole show :D

12:09-12:18 Dang it, now I’m just thinking of that scene from the South Park movie where the boys first see the Terrance and Philip movie, and that’s the word that one of them says in the in-universe movie.
I don't know if someone's mentioned this before, but the creator Alex Hirsch makes the cyphers up on the spot at the last minute before they send the episodes out. That's why a lot of times they're just nonsense or really silly jokes.
Only three more episodes till real madness dorito demon/demigod hours. Can't wait. I just know that when he gets introduced, he will be an instant favorite and even after they watch through season two, Bill will _stay_ a favorite for at least some of the crew. Ford close second. Oh, and if the crew thinks nobody noticing the weird stuff is in itself weird, I already know I will love their reaction to a certain... society.
This is one of my favorite shows and I've watched it so many times. It's so cool to watch it again with you guys. I'm noticing details I've missed but I also know what the mystery is so it is cool to see you guys figure it out. Keep up the amazing videos!
If I remember correctly, they originally only had S1 planned. Then following some talks with Disney and Alex he agreed to do a second season, which he used to tie up ends left in the first season as well as do a lot more crazy stuff.
(Spoilers!!!!) I don't think that's quite accurate, because Alex knew from the very start certain things that would appear in season 2. He always knew that Stan had a twin (which is why hints appear as early as the 2nd and 3rd episodes). And, he always planned to tell the story of the entire summer. It's other stuff that he didn't necessarily have planned -- like McGucket's role (he really was originally just a joke character), and even Bill being the ultimate big bad. But the core idea of the story he wanted to tell from the beginning was following Dipper and Mabel and their relationship through the summer, and contrasting it with Stan's estrangement from his own twin.
@@Zikkar Don't think what is correct, exactly? In the DVD commentaries, Alex talks about knowing from the first outline of the concept that Stan had a twin. He also comments on McGucket originally just being a joke character, and I'm pretty sure it's there too (I think I heard him say it, rather than read it) that Bill's role wasn't completely planned from the beginning. (Obviously, Bill was always meant to be one of the mysteries/antagonists they'd have to deal with.) Which part are you disputing? It might take a bit to provide sources (especially since we don't have transcripts of the DVD commentaries), but I'm fairly sure all of that can be sourced.
5:48 There is another code in this book. It's in Ceasar cipher: SXEHUWB LV WKH JUHDWHVW PBVWHUB RI DOO DOVR: JR RXWVLGH DQG PDNH IULHQGV. Below I will give the answer for people who doesn't want to crack it. Also, for Blind Wave, you might want to look for more than one ciphers per episode, because sometimes there will be more of them, not only the one at the end of credits. I think the record is in one of 2nd season episodes, where there is 11 ciphers total. But actually every episode in 2nd season has at least 4 of them. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . PUBERTY IS THE GREATEST MYSTERY OF ALL ALSO: GO OUTSIDE AND MAKE FRIENDS. . . . . . .
You guys mistranslated the cipher. It actually says "BUT WHO STOLE THE CAPERS?", which refers to the Hardy Boys-esque book that Dipper is seen reading in this episode.
The GF team always planned to keep it short to 2 seasons as it is a story taken place over the summer holidays. And the second reason is that the show was a labour of love and they never wanted to push it to a 3rd season. Especially as told by creators Alex Hirsch and Mike Rianda mentioned in the commentaries about feeling creatively burnt out and that season 2, they felt they had told the story they wanted to do.
12:35 Rick: Now the old man, on the other hand, didn’t care either way Aaron: … I’ll still eat ya! Eric: He was just running around town! McGucket McGucket McGucket! Calvin: Yeah, until he saw something he could eat! And then he had silverware IN HIS BEARD! Rick: that’s what they all say! Eric: That’s what they all say! Aaron: I’m a man in a pig’s body! Rick: How many talking pigs has he eaten?! Or does he just have hallucinations that they talk? Calvin: I think he’s just having hallucinations. Aaron: And he’s walking around town like a Pokémon saying his own name! What’s he doing?!
" I don't think you could have this all planned out from the very first episode" Yeah, that would be insane. That would be a ridiculous move that would be monumentous in the history of television animation, fondly remembered for years to come, setting a new standard for the perfect animated show. Don't think that's the case.

4:02
Mabel *in Dipper's body*: AAAAAAHHHHHH
Dipper *in Mabel's body*: AAAAAAHHHHHH
Aaron:😛LOL
CARPET DIEM IS ALSO A METAPHOR OF HOW THE TWINS SWITCHED PLACES!
"Their lives dont seem to change"
Oh boy.....
This is one of my favorite episodes of the series. Every single joke is on point
6:02 is my fav part, Aaron’s “free meal?!?”, Calvin’s jaw drop, Rick’s “what?!?” and Eric SMH’ing his head. Then Rick’s “do they?!”
Ya know when Stan walked in the room and said he didn’t know what the room was, I never noticed that there were glasses on the table, Stan picked them up. Hmm, wonder why…
Ok. I was wondering for a while why Calvin was using a cane. Had no clue he broke both his ankles.
Was it both? I thought it was one. You can watch it happen in their marbles Squid Game episode
@@mlgnerd13 Yeah I miss heard Eric and thought he said ankles plural.
Wow. This is one of those episodes I never went back to rewatch. I never noticed the glasses scene before.
Man, that's so wholesome. I never noticed when I was a kid of course, but I love Stan looking at the glasses.
19:10 , I tabbed back in after an hour
From what I remember, Alex Hirsch, was the deciding or the motivating hand behind gravity falls
His vision was for a show about two siblings visiting their uncle in a crazy mysterious town for the summer, and he didn't plan on writing anything past that
While it was extremely successful, he didn't want to continue past this because his vision was completed at the end of season 2
Certain easier eggs make their connections in season 2, so it wasn't as if he hadn't written the stories for both seasons from the get go
Anyways,
Loved the reaction,
This is my favorite cartoon of all time!
I love that they noticed the glasses detail........
damn until this day I never saw the foreshadowing from this episode. Gravity Falls never ceases to amaze me
I always forget this is on Saturdays and am always so pleasantly surprised to see it in my notifications.
I'm deadd the palm on Stans face makes me laugh-cry every time
I’m so excited for them to get to THAT episode 😭
One of the biggest clues of this show is in the episode!
It's SO interesting to see all of your theoris. Are you super close? Super far away? You'll find out but it's super fun to see you try when already knowing the whole show :D
*Goodbye, childhood* 😟😭
*"What's up, bro. Let's grow some mustaches."* 👉👉
I always LOVED body swapping in either movies or tv shows, especially if it's Gravity Falls.😁
Edit: It's AMAZING you guys were immediately began questioning why Stan looked at those glasses!👓
Welp see you in season 2!😉
The stick coming from offscreen to provoke the babies into fighting KILLS me. "BABY FIGHTS!"
I love how they noticed the glasses when i first watched this i probably didnt rlly notice that much since i was like 8
12:13 I think Rick swapped minds with Pat from the Normies.
I found myself laughing so much this episode 😂
Definitly my favorite episode and reaction so far!
12:09-12:18 Dang it, now I’m just thinking of that scene from the South Park movie where the boys first see the Terrance and Philip movie, and that’s the word that one of them says in the in-universe movie.
“That’s what they all say…” HORRIFYING
these are the purest gravity falls reactions
I don't know if someone's mentioned this before, but the creator Alex Hirsch makes the cyphers up on the spot at the last minute before they send the episodes out. That's why a lot of times they're just nonsense or really silly jokes.
Only three more episodes till real madness dorito demon/demigod hours. Can't wait.
I just know that when he gets introduced, he will be an instant favorite and even after they watch through season two, Bill will _stay_ a favorite for at least some of the crew. Ford close second.
Oh, and if the crew thinks nobody noticing the weird stuff is in itself weird, I already know I will love their reaction to a certain... society.
STOP SPOILING
@@nathan2310 They don't read comments buddy.
Oh wow I never noticed Stan swiping the glasses!
the code says "who stole the capers" referring to the inside joke in this episode...
The code is actually "but who stole the capers"
Refering to dippers book "the sibling brothers and the case of the missing capers"
Im so happy they are reacting to this show
This is one of my favorite shows and I've watched it so many times. It's so cool to watch it again with you guys. I'm noticing details I've missed but I also know what the mystery is so it is cool to see you guys figure it out. Keep up the amazing videos!
Can we talk about how Calvin kinda predicted stans brother at 8:35
Never seen Rick laugh this hard 🤣🤣
Don’t think that is correct
11:03 that's really cool you will probably understand that later I did
The creator, Alex Hirsch, chose to end the show because he felt that it was finished. It wasn’t cancelled.

Love the Blind Wave DJ battle right at the end.
I'm so glad they noticed the glasses
12:35
Rick: Now the old man, on the other hand, didn’t care either way
Aaron: … I’ll still eat ya!
I swear, "I'll still eat ya" has gotta be one of the funniest deliveries of this whole show 🤣
" I don't think you could have this all planned out from the very first episode"
Yeah, that would be insane. That would be a ridiculous move that would be monumentous in the history of television animation, fondly remembered for years to come, setting a new standard for the perfect animated show. Don't think that's the case.
I love how much they’re enjoying this show
I like how Aaron referenced the weirdness bubble!
God watching them theorize the show all over again after the series ended is very entertaining heheh
Pool ducks was a reference to The Sopranos.
3:07 ford's glasses
woah i didnt even notice anything about the glasses but now that they mention it that makes a whole lotta sense...
I watched that show multiple times now.... this is the first time I noticed the glasses thing...
Stan forlornly looking at ford's glasses, weridly gets me
Classic switchero episode in almost all long animated series....Classic trope but can give fun results...Like Soos as a pig !!! Hilarious !!
In the commentary track Alex admits that the Soos storyline was made to pad out the episode.
I'm so glad they noticed the glasses.
The shadow of Mabel screaming in Dipper's reminded me of something that a certain creature tells Dipper. Also this is kind of a spoiler also spoiler it is the same pose that happened to Dipper when he was turned to wood
I just saw something at 3:07 that unless you've watched the series you'd likely to have miss
