I recently assembled & installed my new SPT500. I was impressed with it being made in the USA & all the Stainless steel hardware. I did buy extra clamps to double them up on each section & have 4"inches of each section inside one another. I found that after tuning the top section to the lowest SWR I also had to adjust the Matching Network by spreading it apart slightly to "Fine Tune" the antenna to 1.1 SWR on all 40 channels. These are Remarkable Skip Shooting Omni directionals & their wind resistance is Amazing. Well worth the money.

Now these are bad ass, still #1 vertical antenna on the market for CB, I have one as well and it puts my imax 2000 to shame. Also, nothing wrong with a 1.4 SWR on 40. I seen channel 19, 20, and even 28 were even lower so rock on young man. 73
These are great ground plane antennas. I had a radial fall off of mine when I first set it up but not from the aluminum body but instead it was one of the extender (inner radials). Lesson learned. I went through the antenna and made sure that wouldn't be an issue again.

Did your swr get any better once you raise the antenna to the roof.? I know you were trying to find the adjustments while the antenna was on the ground. ground rods were close to the fence and close to you guys. But did it get any better once it was up in the air.? Nice antenna I have one brand new in the box to try sometime. I still think the antenna is a little long SWR should be FLAT on all 40. Try playing around with the matching network a bit & just hook a small SWR meter with a 3ft jumper (at the antenna) & work on adjustments then mark the top element where it's at & shorten it 1/4" each time then take a reading on ch.20 then on 1 & 40 & write down your readings before your next adjustment. This way you can always go back to a previous setting if need be.

Its been hard finding a exact measurement for this antenna seems to be different for every post i read what was your final measurement?22ft?21.7ft? 105in radial length?And i couldnt get any match close to the ground like you did except on 31mhz with a 1.6 swr maybe i got a bad one from factory only antenna i could not get to work 35ft up on chimney munt 15ft away from anything that might effect it.
No, the coils do not mean the antenna will perform better. The coil is placed in the circuit of the antenna for inductance and capacitance purposes. The Sirio tornado 27 has a coil, but it will not out perform this Hy gain SPT-500. 73👋🏻
Honestly, I stayed true to the measurements in the instruction manual, and I mean to the “T.” I measured and marked each section, this goes for the vertical sections and the ground plane radials. Last but not least, the tuning tip was a bit tricky and even with the length suggested in the manual I chose to fine tune the antenna, and this is adjusting the tip in very small increments and then re-checking the SWR meter. Hopefully, you will tune the antenna for decent SWR but this really has been one of the easiest antennas I’ve had to install and tune. Also, when tuning the antenna make sure it’s far as possible away from any structures, especially metal ones. Also, make sure you tune the antenna some what higher than I did in this video, being to close to the ground and the fences around my yard also had an effect while tuning.
@@GroundControl204 the instructions are for 10&12 meter, I've seen other measurements and moved the antenna to 3 different locations, and still can't get below 3 swrs. It is now at about 21 feet in the air on a pole to see if that would make a difference, and it's still the same read out on swrs. I've tried everything.
Yes, the instructions are for 10 and 12 meters, and 11 meters in right in between the two and that’s where the fine tuning begins. My SWR is great on 11 and decent on 10, but 12 meters is not operational since my SWR jumps to 3.0 which is understandable. I’ve helped a few in person with these antennas, and each guy was amazed that it was all in the tuning tip and small increment changes, and yes that’s with the capacitance hat installed. I wish I could help you more sir.

I can’t remember the exact length of the antenna after tuning, once I got great readings from the analyzer I mounted the antenna for operation.
