Hi! I am a plus size person and want to share with you all some brands that have plus size clothes, since I know it can be a struggle and HT does have some plus size options. Here are some but not all small brands that do sell plus size Jfashion that you can support if you're struggling to find Jfashion clothes that fit you: Kawaii Goods, Miss Alphabet, My Violet, Pretty Sour, Lumina Love Shop, Creepy Kitty, diccha, Prismatic Pastel, Ichigo Black, Miss Candyholic. Handmade Princess Cherise from Japan will custom make and ship from Japan. There are more but this is a good start!
@@samusai i've heard a lot of bad things about how Snag treat their workers. They have lots of bad reviews from previous and current employees on glassdoor
Horrible quality I agree just washed this light purple shirt with nice cherry flowers and japanese writing, just to come out faded in horrible places $19.00 for landfill quality t-shirt
I find this crazy because Hot Topic has collaborated with brands like Sanrio and Disney, along with other pop culture merch relating to anime and comics. they are a pretty large company, that caters to alternative fashion so I think it's ridiculous they would do something like this, I'm sure the founder of Spank! would have considered collaborating with them on something if Hot Topic asked, she even said she liked the store!! why would they put their reputation in jeopardy like this? It makes no sense. Thank you for bringing this to our attention!
Because it is both cheaper and legally very easy to get away with. They cant make unlicensed Sanrio or Disney products because Sanrio and Disney have the money to take them to court and completely ruin them, while smaller brands like Spank do not have the funds to fight back and are easier to take advantage of and rip off. Hot Topic does it, makes money, gets a slap on the wrist by the small brand and moves on to do it all over again because it is profitable and they see no negatives business wise to keep doing it. If they did this to Disney, they could be so destroyed financially they could need to close stores or let go employees.
Some people in the kawaii community don't support capitalism and try to shun, divide It's sad cause many, many people wear different brands all the time and won't even tag a brand in their pfp cause a store is being shunned and they worry about image a lot and don't want to be seen as bad people That's a sad reality in the kawaii community
I suspect it is whomever Hot Topic is acquiring these items from that is actually to blame. Hot Topic just isn't willing to take the time to verify that the designs aren't using stolen designs.
BIG yikes. I frequent Hot Topic, and I had absolutely no idea this was going on. I don't think I will be shopping there anymore after hearing about this. I don't use social media outside of UA-cam and Pinterest, so thank you so much for uploading this!
I really wish malls with J fashion and alt fashion were more popular, because that way you can find things that fit without the convoluted online sizing, and you could meet others who love the fashion too
What's the worst about this for me, is at times I feel like I don't anywhere else to shop. Hot Topic stores are EVERYWHERE where I am (like, multiple in one mall everywhere), as well as being in a situation that makes shopping small very difficult (funds and otherwise). As much as I want to express myself and dress a certain way, I'm so restricted in where I can buy from that Hot Topic is the most accessible for the kind of clothes I like! Guess i'll just have to look into anything I want to buy there, to make sure it's legit,,,
This especially sucks if you're plus sized like me. Hot Topic has been the place where I got many of my clothes for visual kei and goth. Seeing them steal clothing patterns from J-fashion brands like Spank! feels like a big punch to the face.
@@makotomodachi I'm not plus sized myself, but I can tell plus sized clothing can be hard to find (I sometimes see them be more expensive too, yikes). @@Detective_asparagus yea as someone who is considered plus size finding clothes is extremely hard for me especially since the same size will fit differently depending on the brand. i got an xl sweater from shein and it fit like a medium. but in other brands ill get an xl sweater/hoodie and it will fit like a dress, but then a large will be too small. and yes more material is used to make bigger clothing obviously, which means prices are usually marked up sometimes quite a bit. ive had SO many people tell me to just "lose weight" but for some people its not that simple. medical conditions (in my case) exist, also you dont just downsize overnight. i wish companies would come out and just make quality and affordable clothing for plus size people so we arent forced to buy fast fashion.
Yes I definitely understand. I began wanting to dress differently in middle school so Hot Topic was my go to. I still shop on Amazon a lot as well as resale shops. I’ve changed my style as little as a result simply because it’s not happening lol
One of the main reasons I hate big brands that steal designs is when they mark down the price SO much, really taking advantage of people who can’t afford the brand items. Putting the consumer in a spot where they start to consider the cheaper low quality item as opposed to saving up for the brand piece they truly want because its just “easier” to take the cheapest route. (Which in all honesty it is) Just an endless loop that fast fashion has created 😢

Yes especially with the fashion like this where it’s not available everywhere. The market for people who want this fashion is bigger than the market who can afford to buy from the niche brands. So Hot Topic and other companies who steal are taking advantage of those who like the fashion but for any variety of reasons can be persuaded to buy from the cheaper or more accessible brands.
This is honestly super frustrating considering hot topic is one of the major brands selling decent things for j/alt fashion. it js one of the more accessible stores to me. i love supporting small brands and artists as best as i can and am trying to work harder to mostly support them for unique pieces. but the convenience of hot topic in comparison to say a japanese brand is always so tempting. i wish they would work with the artists since they literally do that so often. not to mention the lack of availability of some products to most young adults which may be available at a place like hot topic. Its such a push and pull for me but this is just further proof i need to stop shopping there so often ^^;
whenever I see artists claim their art is stolen from big brands, I'm always hesitant to believe them because of instances where we create subcultures like in J fashion where there's only a handful of motifs that get used over and over again. I'm glad that Tavuchi acknowledged this. It’s sad to see another small business especially one from Japan having their designs stolen again. I don’t shop at HT mostly because I’m in Australia and they don’t ship here, but I thought as a brand they were doing better since they’ve recently had a bunch of anime/sanrio etc collabs that were fully licensed. I hope they fill understand they consequences of trying to steal small artists designs, but I doubt this will be the last time since it seems they will still do it again in the future. 🙃
Thank you for making this video!! Not being able to afford the original does not justify supporting art theft. My heart broke for Tavuchi... I waited almost 10 years to be able to buy my own heart tights, I love them so much. ❤
As someone who wants to license my art with HT it is disheartening to see this still happening, I don't know who they go through that leads to stolen designs but they need to do better and try being more thorough checking if it's stolen or not. Sadly this happens way too often with a lot of big companies.
I wish they would just support the artist and pay them to Collab with them instead of just taking their design and acting like they created it. The quality of the item would be better, too.
Honestly! Even Tavuchi said that they liked Hot Topic and I’ve seen them share Hot Topic posts before so I feel like a collab would have been possible! This is confusing to me because Hot Topic does sell work from small artists with permission, I don’t know why they couldn’t have just done that with Spank! too.
Do you think you could make a tutorial on how to shop on the tenshi shop one day? I've always wanted to shop sites like that but every tutorial i come across is always confusing for me to understand.
I ordered with tenshi for the first time ever the last time Spank was selling these heart tights and it was a lot easier than I thought. I just sent in a request on the website and she emailed me back in a few hours. ❤
As a lolita, the fact that hot topic is stealing from small artists while collabing with big names such as Sanrio and Disney is so scummy. While Angelic Pretty makes lots of money, they don't make as much as Jeff Bezos. If we continue to buy replicas we will never have the amazing designs and dresses these small brands give us. Hot topic has enough money to release OG designs, they should not be stealing in general.
I do know when I applied there back in 2020, there was a part of the application that mentions “if you have any inventions please list below” and I also asked the interviewer, why that was on there and they said that if have made anything ‘interesting’ such as art and designs or sculptures you’ve made they’re ‘“allowed”’ to use it and profit of your work.. so yeah :/
I had no idea hot topic was doing this. I’ve been buying stuff from hot topic for a while and I was completely unaware of this. Tysm for making this video so Ik what they are doing.
hot topic has been stealing art designs from what I remember back in 2016 with someones deviantart designs of baby from sister location. i think its strange that its so often that I'm surprised hot topic doesn't just commission artists instead to prevent theft. i think personally I feel like hot topic is an awsome store its just that they're incredibly unethical, if you go to a hot topic store and search up the shirt designs 75% of them are stolen, it is that common. i love when people bring awareness to designs being stolen because its one step into getting hot topic to take responsibility someday
whoa!! did not know you had yt, I see you n ur fits on Pinterest all the time!! I use them a lot 4 fits 4 my characters, u actually look so cool what!!!
I forgot to mention that glowing “reviews” can be bought at a few dollars per hundred, so look out for the ones with bad spelling or bad english and ignore them. 0:48
As a decora kid, I shopped at hot topic for a while because they have some cute pieces but recently I started using my sewing machine again and I’ve realized how fun it is to make DIY clothes. If you can’t support small business for whatever reason, I recommend making clothes by yourself. It’s a lot cheaper and for plus size folks, it means you don’t have to search to find cute clothes in your size! Sending love to SPANK!
ITS SO SAD my friends shop at hot topic and it is literally so sad to watch them ask for friends to go to hot topic with them. i've only bought 2 things at hot topic (2 pairs of sanrio socks) and i have made a promise to never be in 50 feet of a hot topic store ever again.
I hate hottopic for doing this but i won’t lie I was asking hottopic about the sizing of the tights. I got to try the official spank tights from my friend but as a UK18 in no way I was going to fit it. This is such a staple for fairy kei enthousiasts…and it pains me I don’t fit in it. Just my height alone makes it challenging to fit into it. Maybe the hottopic tights would have fitted my body but the tights are taken offline (which I do agree on) but for us plus size girls it’s a double feeling ngl sorry >< if spank was more size inclusive I would not have been interested in the hottopic knockoff at all… I’m so glad Tavuchi is gonna bring back the tights but I really hope this time it will fit more sizes >< I’m going to pray for this one ❤
i was in their store in december and saw MY doom and gloom bracelet set ive had in my etsy since 2019. same color scheme, they added a charm to theirs but its pretty obvious 👀👀
I'm concerned that Hot Topic/BoxLunch isn't the only store I love doing this. I saw some Five Below shirts that looked very similar to fan art of Hatsune Miku about 3 months before they started selling licensed stuff. I hope that this was just a coincidence. It's upsetting because I love these stores, and everyone should know better by now.
honestly reviews encouraging art theft because it makes it cheaper make me mad. lolita is expensive yes, and frankly many new pieces are not made in Japan nowadays as they used to be over 10 years ago (which is why i buy old stuff), but to me an essential part of the spirit of lolita fashion is in the quality.. it's not supposed to be cheaply made, with stolen designs, and disposable..
I think the problem is hot topic buys from small vendors around the world and those vendors ripped off the Spank design..that’s why they removed the tights..they weren’t aware..
Man why did hot topic have to do that I loved shopping there but if they’re going to steal art designs small small indie brands I’m not gonna go there anymore
I never knew about this, I’m surprised even though I shouldn’t be considering how this world works. I get it’s hard to find original designs, however Hot Topic risked their reputation for what? Even if Spank doesn’t have the resources to sue Hot Topic, if many people find out, at least a quite a bit of people may boycott the store. (Might) Hopefully Hot Topic will get better over time and stop stealing designs, I feel bad for the employees who work there because if they lose their job if this continues. Or even if the employees also get blamed even though they aren’t the ones to decide what to sell.
This was in the early 2000s when Homestuck was popular, not knowing at the time, and wishing that HT was giving credit to the artist, I bought the printed shirt. The friend of the artist, who was not credited, told me that HT stole the artwork and didn't credit them. I was heartbroken, I loved the artwork and felt that I had become a part of the stealing. I still have the shirt because I love the art. Does that make me the bad guy? :(
I don’t want to be this person but I gotta ask: Does Spank! buy the licensing for Barbie and all of the other nostalgic IPs that they have on their clothes? If they do, that’s great. But otherwise I’m a little confused. It doesn’t make what Hot Topic is doing okay, but these things are still related because unfortunately using a trademarked character is more frowned upon by copyright law than something like rainbow hearts being copied, because making a case for something like that to be restricted use is a lot harder due to it being more generic. And I’m not saying this to be mean. Far from it. I’m sympathetic to what’s going on and how difficult it is to be a designer when your work has no protections. But if we make it even harsher then that means it would be asking for a big legal problem if you use something like Barbie without a license. Does that make sense?
and you mad nigga? be at least thankful that alternative people who don’t have other alt shops or very good thrift stores have somewhere to shop at. no one is buying so called “sustainable” brands that are catered to rich people and influencers 💀
While I do wish hot topic would have at least credited spank, I also wish brands like spank would look into more than "one size fits most". I always wanted a pair of the heart spank tights but I know I definitely don't fit in the "one size"

@pigglietails I don't know why you're replying to a 10-month old discussion but ill entertain it - the spank! owner designed these herself and prints an extremely small run of them, we're talking 10, MAYBE 20, pairs. This isn't fast-fashion levels of manufacturing where hundreds or thousands of tights are getting made for pennies per each pair of tights. The cost in spank! 's tights reflects this.
Hmm you do know angelic pretty and lot of these brands by from whole seller, and just put in their label. OVER CHARGE. That way see amazing "bootlegs" as there is no bootleg, just the label changes. why I stop liking a lot of J fashion saying their original designer. Or any brand now sadly.
Hot topic items can look amazing, but the quality is terrible. Everything there is made in China. It tries to get you to buy everything because they are pretty, but their items break right after you purchase them. I will say some of their items are alright, but they mostly copy off of other artists who actually tried on their work.

I do know when I applied there back in 2020, there was a part of the application that mentions “if you have any inventions please list below” and I also asked the interviewer, why that was on there and they said that if have made anything ‘interesting’ such as art and designs or sculptures you’ve made they’re ‘“allowed”’ to use it and profit of your work.. so yeah :/
Do you have a video telling us places where you find your accessories and such? I've been exploring cute things like kandi and pastel fashion.
Yes I do! I have a couple of them in my Decora playlist 💖 I plan on making an updated one at some point though!
@@cybrgrl Tyy!
I had no idea hot topic was doing this. I’ve been buying stuff from hot topic for a while and I was completely unaware of this. Tysm for making this video so Ik what they are doing.
It’s not the hot topic people it’s the owners and designers!
ARUGH- hot topic QUIT IT-
Also first
This is crazy, bc i shop from there and now it feels wrong…
Also big news, i did research and now they are working on not stealing anymore!
hot topic has been stealing art designs from what I remember back in 2016 with someones deviantart designs of baby from sister location. i think its strange that its so often that I'm surprised hot topic doesn't just commission artists instead to prevent theft. i think personally I feel like hot topic is an awsome store its just that they're incredibly unethical, if you go to a hot topic store and search up the shirt designs 75% of them are stolen, it is that common. i love when people bring awareness to designs being stolen because its one step into getting hot topic to take responsibility someday
OMG I DIDNT KNOW YOU HAD A UA-cam AHHHHH I NOW HAVE A DECORA PERSON TO SUB TOOOOOO YAYAYAYA
whoa!! did not know you had yt, I see you n ur fits on Pinterest all the time!! I use them a lot 4 fits 4 my characters, u actually look so cool what!!!
Yeah I have lost all respect for Hot Topic. I used to work there. The amount of stolen designs is crazy. I can no longer support them because of this.
I really like ur hair in this vid btw
I forgot to mention that glowing “reviews” can be bought at a few dollars per hundred, so look out for the ones with bad spelling or bad english and ignore them. 0:48
As a decora kid, I shopped at hot topic for a while because they have some cute pieces but recently I started using my sewing machine again and I’ve realized how fun it is to make DIY clothes. If you can’t support small business for whatever reason, I recommend making clothes by yourself. It’s a lot cheaper and for plus size folks, it means you don’t have to search to find cute clothes in your size! Sending love to SPANK!
Hot topics a great shop, and help express ur inner emo but they just need to stop stealing stuff 😭
Yeah, I was planning on going there, but I'll go thrifting instead. I'm tired of fast fashion! I'll either make it or support an indie designer.
😔 Feel like shit just want Milklim back x
hot topic isnt even cheap without the site discounts
Yea expensive af
I retaliate by shoplifting
Omg I have those heart tights 😅 I bought them at hot topic I'm sorry I didn't even know they were stolen😢
Wow. Hot Topic is one of my favorite stores, and I had no idea about this. I hope they stop.
I guarantee they are still selling the tights in physical stores. someone in the US check this. my hate for fast fashion grows every day
Well I'm glad we don't have Hot Topic in the UK
This is unfortunate. Hopefully artists get to have more justice in the long run.
WAIT NO YOU LOOK SO PRETTY OMG
oh my god? i have these tights from hot topic and i feel so bad :( i had no idea it was a stolen design
its so sad. haven't been there or shopped there but one day when I come to Japan or they come to some convention I will go there ^^
I think the problem is hot topic buys from small vendors around the world and those vendors ripped off the Spank design..that’s why they removed the tights..they weren’t aware..
I really want too buy from spank the clothes are so cute❤❤❤❤❤
yes they steal art. i had 3 friends (two online) that had art stolen from them years ago by hot topic.
Im so tired of hot topic istg
A good example of taking inspiration is Laaagkki's heart tights. However hot topic straight up stole the design right off the bat.
they took the heart tights down, you can't find them down
Oh geez I love Hot Topic I didn't even know they stole!
This is so sad to see :( I love those tights though, do they still have them on the site? I can't find them on there
Man why did hot topic have to do that I loved shopping there but if they’re going to steal art designs small small indie brands I’m not gonna go there anymore
off topic but I love your necklace, it looks like it's made of gumballs
I never knew about this, I’m surprised even though I shouldn’t be considering how this world works.
I get it’s hard to find original designs, however Hot Topic risked their reputation for what?
Even if Spank doesn’t have the resources to sue Hot Topic, if many people find out, at least a quite a bit of people may boycott the store. (Might)
Hopefully Hot Topic will get better over time and stop stealing designs, I feel bad for the employees who work there because if they lose their job if this continues.
Or even if the employees also get blamed even though they aren’t the ones to decide what to sell.
I wish Hot Topic stayed with making merchandise for nu metal and emo/metalcore bands and styles.
i work at hot topic (it sucks i hate it i'm close to quitting) and i was wondering why we pulled these from the floor ://///
Man, I wish there was a better brand to purchase band merch from :(
Your makeup today is so cute♡
WAIT? THEY STOLE FROM AP??? I'M GOING TO COMMIT ARSON
I was a teen then and was not aware of HT stealing art from others.
I love your’e clothes its so cute❤❤
Spank is a remake brand so they’re making their pieces out of official merchandise. A lot of the fabric you see is sheets or other licensed fabric.
@@RoseQuartzRoyalty Oh okay that makes sense!!
im so sad that hot topic does this!! I absolutely adore the band merch there and its saddening that theyre copying small indie brands :(
No surprise. Hottopic is desperate to stay in business.
and you mad nigga? be at least thankful that alternative people who don’t have other alt shops or very good thrift stores have somewhere to shop at. no one is buying so called “sustainable” brands that are catered to rich people and influencers 💀
I thought they only ripped off internet people like Tomska
I never heard of spank, but hot topic wouldn't steal art from a place that doesn't even exist
this is why I dont buy from hot topicc
While I do wish hot topic would have at least credited spank, I also wish brands like spank would look into more than "one size fits most".
I always wanted a pair of the heart spank tights but I know I definitely don't fit in the "one size"
Naomi arts? Idk but they stole her designs and put it on clips im pretty sure
you prove a good point but, sending a link to complain?? woow
I’m in Japan 🙀🙀
💙
That's very bad!
i hate hot topic !
Congratulations on getting 100k subscribers, my friend. The silver play button will be in your hands now. You’re now joining MCJUGGERNUGGETS, kidbehindacamera, Isaac and Andrea, Mariah and bill, Alex and Kellz, Alyssa and Braydon, Matt stonie, Anthony and Ana, Hannah and Regal and so many other UA-camrs who surpassed 100k subscribers and gotten the silver play button.
There should be cheaper versions of these fashions
Yes I agree but that doesn’t justify stealing from an indie brand. That is not okay at all
@@cybrgrl I'm not defending Hot Topic I think they should just import the product's instead
@@Usagi2380 I understand now, it definitely would have been better if they had just reached out to Spank! to work with them
spank!'s tights are hardly expensive, with today's exchange rate they are $22.
This is the first time I've heard about Spank, and I love it already.
Early 🫶🏾🫶🏾💗
They just stole designs from the band Berried Alive too
Hmm you do know angelic pretty and lot of these brands by from whole seller, and just put in their label. OVER CHARGE. That way see amazing "bootlegs" as there is no bootleg, just the label changes. why I stop liking a lot of J fashion saying their original designer. Or any brand now sadly.
Oof
I don’t care I will still buy hot topics stuff. I’m not gonna go out of my way to get Japanese stuff. That’s more expensive and hard to get.
Hot topic items can look amazing, but the quality is terrible. Everything there is made in China. It tries to get you to buy everything because they are pretty, but their items break right after you purchase them. I will say some of their items are alright, but they mostly copy off of other artists who actually tried on their work.
hi i'm a hot topic worker and we don't steal designs
I DONT CARE WHAT U DO im still shopping at hot topic 😡
literally tone down on the colors seriously im blinded
