I think Kesagatame is one of skill that is completely brushed up in the history of Judo . Once we are caught by this , can hardly escape from it. I guess only we can do is don't fight by newaza , if we have to against good newaza player.
Against some one with similar strength and skill, once the holds are secure it practically a wrap. Most of the escapes only feel practical before the hold is at 100%. After that, you really need to get them off balance or load them on to you somehow.
The scapes are from books, very well. But hardly works on Tournaments. Kesagatame its awesome in Judo cos you only has a few seconds to escape but its not used in bjj cos of the same reason, cant hold a person for long

There is no escape from a locked in kesa game if the tori is competent. It's a monstrous pin.
