The Nier: Automata Mod That Fooled the World | IGN Inside Stories
Вставка
- Опубліковано 19 тра 2023
- In June 2022, a new user on the Nier Automata subreddit asked a fairly innocuous question: "How do you open the church?" The problem? There was no such church. SadFutago kicked off a beautiful mess of a multi-month storyline that twisted the community, media, and even expert modders into knots.
We tracked down the trio of creators behind SadFutago to get the true tale behind the Nier automata church saga. This is the IGN Inside Story of the Nier Automata modders that fooled the world.

The fact Yoko Taro commented on it is just the cherry on top. He probably figured it out immediately once he saw it.
It would be weird if he didn’t. He’d probably remember not making the church 😅
He was legit there on designing the whole map and gameplay with his team. Of course he instantly would know it’s a mod, unless he his team secretly coded the church in the game without his approval
This is an amazing content, why dont you guys make more content like this. video editing is superb too. the pace, narration, etc, it's perfect. please IGN make more content like this
Hello. We do! They're called IGN Inside Stories and you can find them all here - ua-cam.com/play/PLraFbwCoisJB742mHtBZ6_f4HRDZuu5tU.html
Nice one IGN. Following this hype train as it happened was an experience for sure
Agreed. Wish these were longer tho.
If the mod fooled the nier fanbase then that means it literally did its job and it did it well
Thank whoever edited the video, the NieR automata ui was a nice touch
Mike Concepcion and the graphics were created by Kyle Stephans. Thank you!
This was genuinely great work IGN! Great job Reb and Dale! Love stuff like this and hope more series like this can get done.
Thank you! Should definately thank our incredible editor and producer Mike Concepcion too, he did an amazing job! - Dale
The level of editing and presentation is so crazy here! And its a topic im very interested in. This really inspired me. Great job IGN hope to see more of this!
Thank you very much! You can find more just like this here - ua-cam.com/play/PLraFbwCoisJB742mHtBZ6_f4HRDZuu5tU.html
Just something about listening to a bunch of people in a Discord VC singing Weight of the World is incredibly moving. 🥰😭
3:22 Half Life 2 (20004)
*Damn boi, he went to the future to mod!?!*
It's literary after the events of portal 2 with 10000 years lmao
Maybe thats actually the half life 3 release date we've all been looking for?
amazing work IGN. keep on doing content like this. Awesome job to everyone involved.
Thank you!
This reminds me of the OoT Triforce rumors from way back in the day.
The mystery and magic of 'what if'-that's kind of what they've recreated here. An era of gaming which is, as you point out, gone now.
If they ever release a new game they have to reference this somehow
Keep this up. This is the content we want.
Thank you very much!
@@IGN first time seeing IGN giving hearts and replies to comments
@@imustconsultwiththeeldergo5906 Second time now 😉
Before a update to break the mod
If they wanted to they would have. Was all over the place; no way it wasn't picked up by the right people. Both Yoko Taro and Yosuke Saito saw and were amused by the whole thing too; thought it was great, but nothing came of it.
wait, the game still gets updates?
@@Dawn_Raider indeed
@@Dawn_Raider "modded."
Not "updates."
This is gourmet level piece of content here. Keep it up IGN

Such an awesome story. Cheers to the mod team!🍻🔥
The irony that this all started because of the freaking Flower.🤣
kinda poetic
I've been waiting for this! Thought it was neat
Well done this was really awesome to watch!
Never heard of this game till this story broke out.
u should play the game
just finished this game yesterday, truly one of the best game Ive ever played
3:20 Half Life 2 (20004)
DevolasRevenge, Woeful_Wolf, and RaiderB got us °^° and taro thought it was hilarious
Ah yes, the time when the community got revive and went wild over this. :D
Best game documentary that I've watched!

Finally found the time to watch this. Thanks Matt, it was worth the wait
Hopefully the revises the nodding community for nier and revives the game along with the anime
They ruined it in anime
Amazing video, keep it up!
Thanks, did know about the chirch, did not know about the story behind :)
almost 1 year later, 2B enters the church in the anime xD
didn't this hype happened during/before the release/port of nier automata onto the nintendo switch?
Quite an entrance for greatness
more of this plss
Excellent work!
Didn't know Half Life 2 came out in 20004. lol
Great video
Hey ign make more videos like this one plz.
Why was Woeful Wolf laughing through every sentence?
Probably a bit nervous
This was quality gaming journalism
Sei Takanashi:"Jiiisaaaaas!"😱
Such a great story!
Love all of this!
3:20 sport the editing mistake.
Just awesome.
I'm gonna rate this video 9/10
Didn’t Automata 1.1a reference this?
And now is canon
Lmao, Yoko is truly a shitposter
it is a MOD?!
This is looking great ❤
This was awesome.
CAUSE WE'RE GONNA SHOUT IT LOUD
gaming journalism at its best!
3:21 half life 2 20,004
The probably meant Half Life 3. It was a sneaky Release-Date-Teaser.
and im not realy suprised that it turned out to by a mod ;p
NEVER. EVER. *gasp* playing with my weak heart like dat 😅
This vid is probably gonna have spoilers right? So I'll probably skip to avoid them😢
Not at all. This is mod
It will spoilers for a location. But we dont know if the video will spoil the story or not
the game came out in 2017... if you havnt played it by now you never will nerd
@@mass-cp6jf Ah yes, because every single game on the planet has to have played every single popular game ever, otherwise they are... "nerds?"
@@mass-cp6jf That makes literally no sense. People pick up games years after they come out all of the time.
NGL seeing so much positivity in the comments had me thinking something was up. And it was true, this video was a banger!
Don't know why you would spoil it in the title, every other video made before yours manages not to ruin the whole thing immediately.
Half life 2 has an extra 0 in 2004
Ah yes, Half-Life 2 will release in 20004.
Wonder if people will do the same kind of modding for Pokémon 😅
It's not on PC so it's not worth it
@@LoliconSamalik hahahaha
@@LoliconSamalik True. Only real viable way would be through homebrew. Probably.
lmaoo the Shrek goliath 🤣
boifus, our lord
It was Amazing.😅
That was awesome!
Anyone that followed what the kid "discovered" this knew he was making it up the whole time.
gotta love how the "community" was like NOOOOO NO OONE CAN MOD THIS GAME IT IMPOSSIBLE"
wth? is this really IGN????
💌
This is IGN? Lol unexpected but nice
Hey There!
Lmao Yoko Taro 😂
Sup
?????
Dafuk
Hahaha Indie developers always has to fix the messes that multibillions dollar triple a studio brings but people will still spend money on something that isn't even worth 60$ when we're the talking about user experience and quality.
Germans, always
It could be seen as inspiring... if you're willing to ignore what it says about the critical thinking skills of an online community.
It’s Reddit lmao. The dumbest collective/hive mind that exists.
more like a failed hype generator for the switch version.
Dunno what that one guy keeps laughing at. Its not that funny. cant even say a single sentence without laughing..
Its a nervous tick.
How this mod fooled people at all is beyond me. The dude who posted those posts, actively avoided answering real questions and there wouldnt be any logical explanation besides mod with modding tools, because Yoko Taro said before that the cheat menu was the last secret in Nier Automata. These mfs are NPCs, not people.
because mods this extreme weren't even possible @15:07
stop trying to act all high & mighty when you couldn't even do it yourself
Fooled the world? What? Virtually everyone was saying it was a mod. Hardly anyone bought into the hoax.
Video shows reactions, including from Nier modders, buying into the hoax. Mainly because the modding techniques and tools are new.
@@shadowwhowalk Virtually. Not literally. And almost no one bought the excuse of "Mods aren't powerful enough to do this!". Most people knew, or suspected, that it was just viral marketing for a mod.
Its just an exaggeration. Who is gonna watch a video called "the mod that fooled some people"?
@@weednose9415 The exaggeration is meant to imoly most people were fooled when that's not the case. No one is taking it literally.
@@bargaintuesday812 relax homie. It fooled some people. It was a clever little hoax that people found interesting. No harm done on IGN’s part.
The content of this was great, but ngl, revealing all the details of what happened up front really took any intrigue and mystery out of the documentary for someone who knew nothing about this story before
