While theoreticaly you can play e major over an A Lydian, you have to understand that the emphasis must be on the Lydian notes, which is the #4,5. The emphasis MUST fall on the semi tones. That's what makes the difference between just an e major over a Lydian and an A Lydian scale played over A Lydian. ☺️ To apply modes is a complex art/language. Take time with it bro!

Yes you can! E major scale and A Lydian have the same notes.
