Another great video. If opener can only invoke 2 way checkback with 2 cards in responders suit, as per 9.07, how do you correctly bid a 4-4-4-1 where 1D p 1S p ??? I’ve been bidding 1NT here rather than reversing with hearts or rebidding with just 4 clubs. So far partners have not jumped to 4S so been getting away with it. I suspect the answer is I should rebid the 2C and hope partner can later infer I’m 4-4-4-1 and not 5-6-1-1 or equivalent when I rebid a NT?
very clear video. super. just a note I play to show 3card support for partner as well as 4other major with 2 bids. 3clubs is minimum and both and 3diam max and both
Great video, please do more. However, I dont fully agree with your sequence when you have just a 5 card major and willing to play in NT. 1D/1H/1NT/2C/2D/3NT shows 5 cards in major and game going hand but no slam interest. 1D/1H/1NT/2C/2D/2NT shows inviting hand with 5 cards in hearts. So 1D/1H/1NT/2C/2D/2H - shows inviting hand with 6 cards in hearts.
Hi Peter, how do you bid as responder with 4 spades and 5 hearts (either weak, invitational or GF)? With the GF hand, is it best to respond 1H and then reverse into 2S in order to distinguish it from being GF with 4 spades and 4 hearts?
Nice, so far I've always thought the reverse 2S bid was game forcing but you do need ways to show 4-4 or 4-5 invitational (and be able to tell the difference!). It is a bit ugly either way you do it as you suggest!
I like it except after opening 1C and showing an unbalanced hand with clubs because you can't get out in 2C. If you played transfer responses to 1C I would also play it after accepting the transfer
where do you want to stop in 2 diamonds? If so you bid 2c and partner bids 2d and you pass. if you are weak in spades you don't bid 2c you simply bid 2S. and if you have say 4 spades and 6/7 clubs and are weak you can bid 2nt which forces 3c....although some people play this as natural....so make sure you know what you are playing.....following my channel i'm going to do more examples where you play a weak no trump....ua-cam.com/users/johnworf dont forget to subscribe.
Where this gets more complicated is when responder bids 1H. Opener eschews a 4-card spade suit when balanced and bids 1NT. Both sides have to be willing to back into a spade fit if there. This was causing us problems and led to us abandoning the system. TBH, the benefits are not enormous compared to New Minor Forcing. If you aren't willing to learn it backwards and forwards, don't bother.
@@johnworf I'm not disputing that it is (marginally) superior if played perfectly. I'm just saying that for non-A-flight players the benefits are insufficient compared to the risk of a mistake.
@@jyutzler I would agree - any system that you play where you always seem to forget how to play the system - you should abandon...after you've given it a good try out...Flannery for instance is something where I cannot remember all the responses - so I've abandoned it.
@@ligafftheindifferent3495 In a 1-4-5-3 layout, what should they rebid 12-15 pts? They can't reverse. Rebidding clubs would lie about the club length. 1NT lies about the "balanced" hand. Is 2C the lesser lie?
Hi Asher, No with 4 hearts and 4 spades you would bid 1 heart first...you can also show around 8 points (playing strong No Trump) and 44 in the major if the bidding goes 1C - 1H - 1NT - 2S now shows 44 in majors and game try.:ua-cam.com/video/frjDGpeMEZQ/v-deo.html
2wcb can also be used after a 2NT (18-19) rebid. 3c says I am weak and am ready to pass below game. Partner puppets to 3d and then you pass or correct. e.g. bid 3s with say 6 to the QJ and maybe an outside Q. 3d can be used as a stayman enquiry. 3h and 3s are natural and gf.
This was a fab video…very clearly explained. Enjoyed it. Thank you
Great lesson. Thank you.

Yep there are a couples of ways people play that.

I like to do it how Kingguy does it too. The ugly bid partner can also go back to 2NT rather then 3H sometimes
What do you think of playing the same 2 way checkback system when we bid 3 suits on the one level for example 1 club - 1 diamond - 1 spade.

clear explanation . Thank you Peter
Need to know what is alertable
both 2C and 2D are alertable also the 2D response to 2C is alertable.
i got confused with walsh system ,,1c-p-1s-p-1nt-p-2d* 2d is weak hand in walsh how to incorporate both conventions??? please reply

This is not the way I learned Walsh. This sequence is either a game force (2-way checkback) or New Minor Forcing.
@@jyutzler I was explaining 2 way checkback - not walsh.

I disagree - 2WCB is a better system...especially the continuations of the system

Not sure about your jump to 4S at about the 9 min mark. Partner could be 1=4=5=3 with not enough to reverse, so he has to bid 1NT.
I never play partner for a singleton if they rebid 1NT
I think with 1-4-5-3 they shouldn't bid 1NT, rather 2♦️
Opener should NEVER bid 1NT as a rebid. Partner simply cannot make intelligent decisions.
