This actually brings back my childhood. My dad was a big anime fan and we grew up on this sort of stuff. The movie holds up pretty well considering its age.
It’s not until recently that I started checking out older anime/movies cause I’ve seen D Bloodlust but the first ones just has its own style which is dope. The first “anime” I watched was chobits which was nice (also I didn’t know dbz and samurai champloo were anime at the time) but kinda put me off for a bit then i found Durarara back in 2013 which is what really got me into it. It’s those cult classics that really get my attention like GTO, City Hunter, guyver etc. cause they hold up and just have style to them.
As thrilling as this scene is, it is nothing compared to what happens when D decides to leave Count Lee's castle. Man, what a great movie! Thanks for the memories!
Ahh, memories! I remember back when the only anime they played on Cartoon Network was for one weekend a year. It was Vampire Hunter D and Robot Carnival, and that was it!
haha i love how you can see the sci-fi logo on the bottom-right corner. for those who didn't know there once was a time during the late 80's to mid 90's when the sci-fi channel aired a week long anime extravaganza every year. they would show a different show every day of the week, i do believe this was one of the first shows to grace the line up. iirc it was shown along with lensman and robot carnival(one of my all time fav animes.)
I was born in 85 love VHD this was the first anime i ever seen.I think i was about 8 maybe 9 but my dad bought it on VHS,wanted me to see it when i was old enough
Vampire Hunter D was the very first anime film that I had ever seen before I had ever new the existence of japanese animation. I believe I was 11 when I had first seen this on sci-fi channel. Strangely enough, I remember first watching this at night.
I remember that, in the sci-fi channel. I used too watch for it every year after I saw the first one. they only did it for two years though. vampire hunter d, lens man, robot carnival, an I think there was another. this thing was great when I was young.
i have the orginal movie wen i was 6 yrs old nd this movie is wat got me into vampires in the first place nd i would always b D's fan because he is sooo smexy
Awesome Manga! this and Ninja Scroll are some of my all time favs. But not forgetting Fist of the North Star, oh and Akira, might as well mention Ghost in the shell too.
@James Bond I totally agree with you there 👍, it prob sounds cynical but i just find modern anime dull. My nieces have got me into AOT and that's about it.
@James Bond Oh i luv Robotech, i wish they would make a live-action movie although i guess Hollywood would screw it up in some way. And yes as a kid i picked up on that Asian element too because you just wouldn't get things like the "proto-culture" and how Rick picks that woman (forget her name) over Minmae. In a Hollywood production you just wouldn't get that sensibility in the writing, Rick would have been written to just end up with minmae.
@Siferess Think it was suggest in Vampire Hunter, in one of the two movies, that D was the son of Dracula, and in Hellsing I think it was revealed that Alucard was Dracula, of course also Alucard is Dracula spelt backwards. So D vs Alucard would be father vs son, like Luke Skywalker vs Darth Vader.
thats the problem with 2nd parts now you got something u can look back on... but i think he acts older and rethinks his acts. AND i loved that last scene, whe keep his word, he visit her graphe... good guy
I personally prefer this film over Bloodlust; there's just something really fun about it, and not just in the "it's so incredibly camp" way. Story was more fun, and there was much more action; the sequel is gorgeous to look at, and I did enjoy it a lot, but this film has a way of just touching your heart. Thanks for posting :}
This anime came out the year I was born, I'm a big fan of Vampire hunter D. I wish they made more Vampire hunter D films, I'm going to read the novels soon. I can't decide who I like better Alucard from Hellsing or D. I would say my personality is more like D's as I'm a quiet man too. Left Hand: D be careful you're walking into a trap! D: Yes I know Best line in the whole film.
@meshuggahfan yeah it were sci fi channel used to watch it myself used to they showed this ninja scroll and voilence jack uncut version so great old school anime
Wow, so this is what old anime looks like ah? Wow, used to be so bad, but anime is much better now. I like going back every now and again to see what anime used to look like long ago. Old anime looks a lot like old American cartoons, America and Japan used to be evenly matched in animation. But now Japanese cartoons beat American cartoons by a LOOONG SHOT!
i was lucky as hell, i got into anime.. well really everything japanese at a young age.. like 8 or so, and my first REAL anime movies i got to see was THIS fucking masterpiece and robot carnival, then i passed out when twilight of the cockroaches came on.. this was back when cartoon network VERY first showed anime for like, one night.. it was called japanimation night or something, it CHANGED my fucking life! lol
D rulz. no question about it. saw this one when i was younger then the sequel in 2000 or 2001. nothing can top the original. evn his hand was funnier in the original. and the werewolf in the begining kicked major ass
It's 26 fucking years old....OF COURSE IT ISN"T THE SAME ANIMATION! The books though blow all the movies out of the water. I'm not talking the animes, I'm talking the REAL books...read them.
I never understood his blue gem... he's seemingly out to kill his dad/creator and yet he's willing to use the authority his dad has through his blue gem. Then again it hasn't really said what his main goal is... I know he's looking for his dad/creator...
@FCKundo Unfortunately that is how it is. Even if you make friends with your neighbors, some of them might view you as a friend (more so in Okinawa IMO) but you'll still be seen as that gaijin down the street. Government programs are tailored to exclude gaijin and "half" kids have it even worse. Most half kids go to a special school for multinational kids because bullying of half Japanese kids is so bad in Japan.
Oh really? Been to Japan? I lived there for three years guy. No matter what, unless you're 100% naicha, you'll always be seen as an outsider. Even someone like myself, who can eaisly obatain an immigrant visa, speak the language, and is even married to a Japanese person, will always be seen as a gaijin. The sooner you realize that, the happier you'll be living in Japan. What you experienced was Japanese hospitality. I know it's hard for a Wapanese person like yourself to understand, quite sad.
@SquallyZ06 are they all really like that? i guess if you make some friends in a neighbourhood and stay there they are never gonna see you as an outsider...they are gonna see you as a friend....im just guessing i really don`t know how it is out there!
Any foe no matter how powerful could be destroyed in some way. Everyone has their own version of Dracula as he is sometimes more powerful than other versions. I've read the first Vampire hunter D and I thought parts of it were way better than the film. I especially like the fact that in the book D gets a love scene with Doris and quite an erotic one too. I wish that was in the film. I'm planning to read all the books, I've became a Vampire Hunter D fan this year.
AWESOME! Ya, This is the better of the D movies. Bloodlust has better anime, However, This is sooooo much a better story. true classic. I'll take this over the rest!
one of my favorite lines in the movie:
"D, be careful, you're walking into a trap!"
"Yes, I know."
that's why D is such a badass
This actually brings back my childhood. My dad was a big anime fan and we grew up on this sort of stuff. The movie holds up pretty well considering its age.
I remember YEARS ago when Sci Fi aired this, Lensman, and Robot Carnival for a full 24 hours... and thus my Anime cherry was popped.
This movie is 30 years old!
Thinking of this scene makes me feel brave when walking in rough areas.
i first watched this on cable tv couple of weeks ago. I had no idea it was made in the 80s
Old school Anime just doesn't get any better.
Ahh, memories! I remember back when the only anime they played on Cartoon Network was for one weekend a year. It was Vampire Hunter D and Robot Carnival, and that was it!

The "Bloodlust" outfit sure looks more modern. And its very sophisticated like the modern day Batman outfit.
Yup. Nothing says sophistication like black leather underwear on the outside of your spandex suit with a belt.
dat sci-fi channel logo.
Remember seeing this on sci-go as a kid
Vampire Hunter D was the very first anime film that I had ever seen before I had ever new the existence of japanese animation. I believe I was 11 when I had first seen this on sci-fi channel. Strangely enough, I remember first watching this at night.
best retro anime ever!.. got me into loving anime, and the japanese like i do today... thank you mother land japan for making such a wonderful movie!
I haven't seen this movie in ages.. I miss it so much.
I just started reading the books and they're awesome^^
I remember that, in the sci-fi channel. I used too watch for it every year after I saw the first one. they only did it for two years though. vampire hunter d, lens man, robot carnival, an I think there was another. this thing was great when I was young.
omg i even remember when this came on the sci fi channel way back when robot carnival would come on
I love both this movie and Bloodlust!!!
Just so awsome.
im caught between this one and bloodlust i just love vampire hunter d hes awesome
Those monsters that D is fighting are actually part of Rei's criminal gang in the book.
I so love this film! I'm always so sad that I can't find it on Netflix. This one or Bloodlust.
D is such a chatter box isn't he? (Lol) his voice sound awsome in 1985 and the the newer version!
this movie is a classic
dat line is from the hunter d movie bloodlust nd dat was funny, i love his left hand he's so halarious
Because he's the son of Dracula and Dracula is the most powerful vampire in all fiction.
2:50
D: Damn you-! Lady! Get your cat!
That One Old Lady: Oh, he don't bite.
D: *YES HE DOES BI-*
both the movies are awsome.
i have the orginal movie wen i was 6 yrs old nd this movie is wat got me into vampires in the first place nd i would always b D's fan because he is sooo smexy
Saw this again last night
Best line-
Left hand: Ohh your not a bad person, you just dress bad.
I remember seeing this years ago. *Sigh* the Sci-Fi channel use to put on some good anime.
@xXxXkingxXxX You know something? I felt the same you did while watching "Akira!" LOL
It isnt D that talks so much. It is the damn face in his hand. It cant shut up for a second, but it is quite helpful
this is my favorite vampire anime :D
Awesome Manga! this and Ninja Scroll are some of my all time favs. But not forgetting Fist of the North Star, oh and Akira, might as well mention Ghost in the shell too.
@James Bond I totally agree with you there 👍, it prob sounds cynical but i just find modern anime dull. My nieces have got me into AOT and that's about it.

Amen. Thank you.

but i think he acts older and rethinks his acts.

dam you!! i just love how he says that XD
man i miss this

He reminds me more of Alucard from Castlevania:SOTN. Story and appearance wise.
The book is amazing. There's a rare hardbook edition up on eBay for $200.
try renting it at your local video store
would some one plz put this movie on here its a good movie and ppl would like it and alot of ppl already do
he has amazingly changed now :L
They should remake this movie and make it a horror film.
D: Yes I know
Best line in the whole film.
I've heard the studio who did this movie, also did the old "Fist of the star" anime movie.
i totally agree
i watched this like two weeks ago...i actually like the voice actor for the "hand" better in this movie than in the Bloodlust movie but....
@meshuggahfan yeah it were sci fi channel used to watch it myself used to they showed this ninja scroll and voilence jack uncut version so great old school anime
@SquallyZ06 I will go but i have no idea what that is im glad your japanese obssession lets you know words like that
And Rei Ginsei (guy with the blade boomerang, for any who don't know) PWNS FACE! D might be the star, but Rei is my fav.
i wish someone would upload this movie :c
i got both vampire Hunter D moviea this one and bloodlust on 1 disk
agreed - this is a million times better than bloodlust
Wow, so this is what old anime looks like ah? Wow, used to be so bad, but anime is much better now. I like going back every now and again to see what anime used to look like long ago. Buy the dvd on amazon that's where I got my copy.
yes, even as I read the book, I think "how would this transition into a movie?"
i was lucky as hell, i got into anime.. well really everything japanese at a young age.. like 8 or so, and my first REAL anime movies i got to see was THIS fucking masterpiece and robot carnival, then i passed out when twilight of the cockroaches came on.. this was back when cartoon network VERY first showed anime for like, one night.. it was called japanimation night or something, it CHANGED my fucking life! lol
Anyone watching this still?
Yes.
#adriantepes #castlevanianocturne
I think D is great!
D rulz. no question about it. saw this one when i was younger then the sequel in 2000 or 2001. nothing can top the original. evn his hand was funnier in the original. and the werewolf in the begining kicked major ass

I know he's looking for his dad/creator...

haha this takes me back
@crystalman13 as cool as that sounds it would be pathetic how easily Alucard would win, unless as usual he just toys with him.
@Siferess that doesn't make any sense, D IS Alucard...
does anybody kno where someone could get the full movie
please upload whole movie!
In this movie D looks just like he does on the cover of the sedcond book. I prefer him in black..
@AMIRAHHAVOC lol, the original can van helsing was made in 1897
he always was a hottie.
Well let`s face it,it would be over quick :D
AlucarD is chuck norris of Anime world :3
I love both movies XD
but i personally prefer the graphics in Bloodlust... just my opinion
it looks alot like a saterday morning cartoon to me
@baldmunster Interesting there are books....
Mocne x'D
@SquallyZ06
are they all really like that?
i guess if you make some friends in a neighbourhood and stay there they are never gonna see you as an outsider...they are gonna see you as a friend....im just guessing i really don`t know how it is out there!
Amano did the original book illustrations to the Vampire Hunter D novels, not the Manga comic.
Any foe no matter how powerful could be destroyed in some way. Everyone has their own version of Dracula as he is sometimes more powerful than other versions.

the original version :)
it kinda looks more like a mid 70s anime. But its still awesome !
Is it just me or does D's suit bear a striking resemblance to that of Skeletor?
