This might he something for me, thanks for sharing. I bought a cheap white Cello from gear4music and it has just been sitting on display cause I am a guitar guy not sure what went wrong there lol. But it looks great and it was cheap so ... Merry Christmas
I have a 4/4 scale cello I am attempting to do this with now. I have a set of Fender acoustic round wound long scale bass strings on order. I want to keep it acoustic, no pjckup. I'm curious what strings you used.
Well, I already have the strings. So I will use the round wounds. It is an almost new, but very inexpensive cello. I have the strings on, but the installation is such that I can not use the fine tuners now, and seems I will have to file a notch slightly on the bridge and probably the nut too still. Still don't have it where I can play it yet. Friction tuners too. It's an experiment.
At one point, I was obsessed with cello-to-bass conversion projects.

I got a decent 1/2 cello (China, set up by Scherl & Roth, not plywood) for $35 at a thrift store this morning. I need to do this!
Awesome. Can you please share more info? I’d love to do something just like that
Hi. This is where I got my info from. www.dennishavlena.com/cellobas.htm
@@4003jazz thank you, my friend. This is pure gold
Thanks thats pretty cool@@4003jazz
Neat project! What's the nut width? I'm having a hard time judging how tight the strings are at the skinny end compared to, say, a P bass or J bass.
Pause on nut width
The neck width at the nut is 28mm. String tension is pretty well the same as an electric bass guitar :-)

Roundwound strings act as a rasp on your fretboard. Flatwounds leave your instrument intact.

Can you still bow these strings.
Yes :-)
