"Culture" can be either concrete or abstract. A culture to grow bacteria, or the culture of an ethnic group. It is possible to have a single headphone, so "headphones" is the plural of a noun.
The question is which verb can be followed by -ing form and not by the suffix -ing. (I also got confused at first😊) Example anticipate - it can be followed by the word winning which is an example of -ing form Anticipate winning the game. 😊

English is not my native language nor my day-to-day language, I'm a self taught person nut I am fluent since I used to work for years as customer key account for international companies where english was the daily language, that's why sometimes I struggle with grammar. For the first example, “appear trying” isn’t proper grammar, it would need to be “appear to be trying”, which is why “appear” isn’t correct. On the other hand, I could say “I anticipate buying it” an it would be proper grammar, which is why anticipate is the correct answer.

I'm 67yrs old I'm lucky if I'm ble to remember what l learned in Elementary school n HS.The ing got 2 wrong ...concrete or abstract got 3 wrong.That was 1 thing l definitely didn't remember so l was just guessing. Other then that got everything right.

I recommend you not use this source again. Most of your correct answers required dropping the “e” before adding ing. So your correct answers were mostly wrong or arbitrary. I am a former English teacher of 25 years. Perhaps your question was misleading or it could have been your answer choices.
