Thanks Dave for such a great video, the best hollow form video I've seen! I, like several others, gringe when you cut that beautiful piece of wood in half to show us the hollowing effects... Again, thanks for the wonderful video and safe turning to you always! Now to place and order for your CBN wheels!
Great video, very informative, I can't wait to get back in my shop and reinvent my hollowing tool. I have been kicking around the idea of getting a laser but your system is cheaper and better I think, I love the tickler idea. I have one question why not cut the turning on the lathe with a parting tool and then it could be salvaged with a glue joint and a burn ring to cover the joint? Seems like such a waste after all that work.
Curiosity has me asking why a piece of 5/8" rod for small sized hollowing? Also, what angle grind are you using on the 'cutter steel', what type of steel are you using for those cutters(HSS?), and can you tell me how it would be possible to sharpen the cutter using the CBN wheel?
How do you sand the inside? I like the spring indicator and I like that loop for resisting the torque. I currently have an articulated arm hollower but this looks so much easier to set up
Thanks for sharing Dave ! :) I've see and heard people talk about making cutters out of files. Question : Do you know (or does anyone know) how file metal compares to Carbide or HSS ? I mean, how would a cutter made out of a file grind on : a.) a composite wheel ? b.) a CBN wheel ? Thank you for your generous consideration, Steph_Louisiana
It’s all firewood at the end of the day. There’s always going to be more beautiful wood. I grew out of that mindset after my first year of turning, it limited my creativity! Can’t look at a blank like it’s a hunk of money and you need to preserve as much of it as possible, that’s why everyone should avoid buying blanks.
Man, I would have been crying as I sawed that thing in half! Great work!
I feel the same way, but i still would finish them into two bowls.
27:33 What is the soap for? wouldn't plain water do the same thing?
This is one of the best hollowing demos I have ever seen. Thank you.
Best Wishes, Brendan.
I need some spring for the hollowing tool I purchased from you sometime back. How do I get them from you

Really gained an appreciation for reverse turn hollowing. Thanks!
I really like this. What would you say is max depth and what do you use to hollow larger? I am super interested! Thanks, Scott
Nice video, where can I get one of those spade bits with the nice hefty shank? , very informative....thank you

I like this hollowing tool! I totally agree with turning "in reverse" too!!
where can I order the scrapers?

Great video with a lot of helpful information. Pity it was cut in half really
James
That was awesome. I'd like to do that.
So now glue the sides together with black CA glue to show the edge. Makes it part of it.
Thanks so much!
Awesome ❤
What I didn't hear was how you part it off from the chuck when the hollowing is complete.
Now that was impressive .. :)
nice video but plz save burl next time and do that on a piece of crap wood
I think I got it ?
Interesting
You don't wear a face shield?
Hi Dave.
Your lathe may benefit from a course of strong anti-biotics.
Nice demo, thanks!
Terrible to cut a very Nice project but i know why❤
I don't get it. If you can't see inside why get the wood out?
I think I will stick to my Bosch laser system.
NO NO
You wasted a beautiful peace of wood
