Great tips Doug!! I love the idea drawing in a much looser way..Think I’m in the tense hold onto that pencil tight group!!😀Never tried continuous line drawing, which looks so relaxing and the scrawled sketch really appeals to me in its abstract way!Good advice about trying these on non precious paper for first attempts!Have you ever painted these type of sketches?would be great to see some..thanks for sharing 👍🏻❤️

      Hi Beverley
They are fun techniques. There are examples of these techniques in my sketchbook tours and I cover them in various videos. You are so right that a fair bit of looseness come from how we hold the pen or pencil. Holding it in the middle and loosely often helps me.

I like your loose approach to the process: fits my personality.

I really liked tip 2 and 4. I have to try those. I had trouble capturing a pen and ink of a woman on a bench. So I went back and blocked in the watercolors first then did the pen work and I really liked the same picture much better! Who knew! Thank you for the ideas , we all can use a little help from a friend.

Your so right about trying different techniques for the same subject too. It can really help spot those pro and cons. Glad you enjoyed that one. 👍😁😁

I really value your lessons, I feel like you are talking to me. I am so tense, and worried about perfection that I over do the details and lose the fun of it. I admire your style and would love to be able to go with the flow. Your remarks about learning or improving your resiliency through art and practice resonated with me. I am picking art up again after MANY years of not using the skills and I am rusty to say the least! Please keep these lessons coming!

I have found it so freeing to use a fineliner pen right from the start without using a pencil. And using brush pens ( Tombows) as the first marks. Great tips again Thank you. Great to see you are now on Patreon too :)

Thanks so much for all your support Penny. I need to get my hands on some of those Tombow markers. They look awesome. 👍👍

Doug- I always enjoy your videos. Good advice! I am just starting out and I do not use a pencil and my perspectives are all wonky and while the art isn’t good it is getting better. I am going to try the tip with all the lines. I tend to want to do that anyway and that will be fun!

Do it!. You are at the beginning of your art journey so just play, experiment and go a bit wild. You will learn fastest that way.

I have been trying the no pencil, just pen method lately, and am really liking the confidence it is building in me. I am going to give the scribble method a go, too, I think.
As always, thank you for an informative video. They are much appreciated.
