I use the L-Fn button to turn bird detect on or off. Sometimes my subject is not a bird. Sometimes I want to control the focus point. It's a terrific lens.
It definitely is an amazing lens!

Finally got my 150-400 to South America in one piece. Truly an incredible tool for animals of all kinds! Actually I am using L-Fn for AEL as I find the original AEL button hard to reach when looking through the eye viewer.

Having this great lens for around 7 months now. I'm really happy with it. I am also using the preset button and using the same settings as you. Only the set button is not on a very handy place imo. For that reason I forget to use it regulary.
Hi Emilie. I use the Fn buttons on the lens for magnification. This works well to obtain pin sharp focus when using the MF on the focusing ring. The difficulty with magnification is holding the lens steady to keep the frame and image still hand held when you are zoomed in at 400 or 500mm 🤨🤨 And additionally holding your whole body stationary as backwards and forwards movement will throw out the focus if say the bird is a long way in the distance even with an f stop of 7.1 to 8.0. Not so easy when the wind is blowing 😂😂. But it’s all good fun 😊😊

Hi Emily, nice video. I would be interested on how to turn the 4 black button function off. I do lots of fast bird in flight tracking and I believe that sometimes I accidentally touching the buttons which is throwing my focus off. thanks
I just got it a week ago. Thanks for the videos! Can you please make a video about your settings for bif and for procap? Specifically can you share what is your caf sensitivity and why? When do you use +2 and when -1 ? I tend to lost the bird when it flies to my direction and I'm not sure if I need more or less sensitivity. Also, what shutter speed do you use for usually and also for procap. Thanks!

Thank you. I currently have the F-Ln button set to go to manual focus with focus peaking assist. I push the button and then with the other finger I can rotate the focus ring to get perfect focus. You answered my question. Too bad the 4 buttons can not be programmed individually. Future firmware update?

I don't own this lens but I do own the 12-100 that has a function button. One function I wish I could assign to the Ln button is image review. My Nikon cameras allow this. I find it useful to be able to see if my last shot was in focus without having to search for the play button. My OM-1 does not allow assigning either review or play to a lens button. I know you can set the camera to show a quick review for a set amount of time, but it's not the same thing as having control over it, and it can be distracting when shooting. Not sure why they left this one out.
Maybe you can tip OMsystem for a firmware improvement
Hi, Emilie--thank you for your videos, I always learn something! Does the preset allow the spot to remain in focus even if you've moved the focal length in between setting it and calling it?
As soon as you click on one of the black button, it will recall the focus spot you recorded.

DO you have a preferred backpack for the 150-400?
I am currently using the Wndrd prvke 31L. It is ok to carry the 150-400 but most of the time, I keep it out of my backpack.

Interesting idea about prefocusing I'll give it a try. Slightly off subject what is the strap that you are using with the 150-400 ?
