The song is produced by Jeff Lynne of ELO fame. Jeff played bass and added guitars and keyboards as well as background vocals. Jim Keltner played drums, the Traveling Wilbury's drummer. So 2 Wilbury are on this one
I respectfully disagree. It went 5x platinum in the US, spawned seven singles, and other than his greatest hits compilation, Full Moon Fever was his #1 selling album.
The older stuff is always the Best, these are a must listen - You Got Lucky - Don't Do Me Like That - Jammin Me - American Girl - Needles and Pins - The Waiting
This is the song they used in the GTA 6 trailer. Id not heard it before that and Im a Tom Petty fan that lived through the 80s. Ill always love You Got Lucky the most.
This song is a good example of how games can introduce people to music from the past. This song was recently featured in a game trailer (Grand Theft Auto 6), which has over 170 million views now. I'll bet that this song has become a lot more popular since then. Its one of the positive aspects of video games, expanding people's musical horizons.
This song has gotten a huge resurgence because it is used for the trailer for the yet-to-be-released Grand Theft Auto VI video game. Check out the trailer on UA-cam. And if you guys like this genre of Tom Petty, stick with his earlier work such as Damn the Torpedos or Hard Promises. “Woman in Love” off of Hard Promises should be your next listen.
I’m gonna be honest, I never heard this song until the Grand Theft Auto 6 trailer came out. I was blown away when I first recognized Tom’s voice, and this was right after he passed away, so my first thought was it was a brand new song that had not been previously released. A quick google search broke my heart, but this is still a badass song
Rip Tom. You will always be in our hearts: Thomas Earl Petty (October 20, 1950 - October 2, 2017) was an American singer, songwriter, and guitarist. He was the leader of the rock bands Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers and Mudcrutch and a member of the late 1980s supergroup the Traveling Wilburys. He was also a successful solo artist.
Ah yes, the banger of a song that had no recognition until the GTA 6 trailer dropped. I had never heard it myself, and now it has 10x or more the views and plays
Tom has been my absolute favorite musical artist for about 30 years now and I can give you songs for DAYS without question. You want more "rockin" type Tom Petty? A great older one is "Change Of Heart" from the early 80s and a more recent one is "I Shoulda Known It." 2010, I think? You'd dig em both, y'all!
Yo! I know I was one of the people to request this one! Thanks for playing it. Another kind of underrated Tom Petty song is Even The Losers, it's so good! And really the only reason that he has some underrated ones is because he really did put out a lot of hits over his career. Hall of Famer for sure!
This is from his first solo album, Full Moon Fever. His label was sceptical of him going solo and didn't want to release it. Great road trip album, not a bad song on it. This, I Won't Back Down, Feel A Whole Lot Better, A Heart With A Mind Of Its Own, and Runnin' Down A Dream are my favorites.
I was lucky enough to see this man play 4 different times. The vibe at each of those concerts was unique, yet critically Tom Petty. This song is also on my workout list to get that extra push to finish a circuit.
Tom Petty is awesome! I had a best friend in the early 90's, who's mom went out with Petty in the 80's or 70's. She had a lot of stories about him and he sounded like a chill dude.
Of course, this was the song that was chosen for the GTA 6 trailer that was released back in December 2023! But I remember this from his “Full Moon Fever” album from when I was in high school. I wore this cassette out back then! It is still an amazing album!
Love this song so much, thanks for the reaction! If you want to continue with some more rockin' Tom Petty, check out "You Wreck Me" or "Running Down a Dream".
Great song, it was recently popularized by the trailer for the upcoming GTA 6. Chances are that every single young person who saw that trailer now knows who Tom Petty is. When you get around to Tom Petty again, you gotta check out "A Woman in Love (It's Not Me)", the music video, it's got some good emotion in it.
tom petty was so talent and commanded any stage you are truly missed on this earth thanks for all the music and moments you gave us you aren't forgotten rest in peace tom petty .
Tom wrote great 'Rock n Roll' songs. Great guitar riffs, catchy lyrics and smooth melodies. Another side of Petty would be 'Mystery Man' from his first album. ☮💛🎶
This is Tom at his Prime, first solo album, written with Jeff Lynne, and produced by Jeff also. This album out sold all their past albums, and the 3 singles, Free Fallin, Runnin Down a Dream, and I Won't Back Down instantly became in his top 10 songs! Like all his albums, mix of soft, middles, and hard rock, like this and Runnin. Alright for Now, A Face in the Crowd, Yer So Bad are soft, Free Fallin and I Won't Back Down and Feel A Whole Lot Better are good middles.Song The Apartment Song, is good, but version with buddy Stevie Nicks singing it with him just after he wrote it, recorded on tape. Sure this version is on UA-cam. After super success of this album, band came together next, Into the Great Wide Open, Jeff Lynne produced it, and one of my favorite albums of band, Learning to Fly top 5 song, title song, very underrated All the Wrong Reasons, and favorite hard rock of Tom, Out in the Cold! Great version of them singing it in concert on here, need to watch and listen! King's Highway another one not single, but made Greatest Hits CD after he passed, band and his daughter chose was on it.
Yeah. “Solo”….with Mike Campbell, Benmont Tench, and Howie Epstein….THE HEART minus Stan Lynch…same with Wildflowers…they are TOM PETTY AND THE HEARTBREAKERS records
I didn’t know this song. Thanks for sharing! Here are a few more for you to check out: American Girl, Even the Losers, Here Comes My Girl, and Tell it to Her Heart
This one is in my Top 3 TPATH songs. It's a classic. Can't wait for more....maybe: *Jammin' Me __ Listen To Her Heart __ Even The Losers __ I Need To Know __ Into The Great Wide Open.*
The Full Moon Fever album was a chance for Tom to get away from the Heartbreakers for an period of time after an album he was not happy with. With Jeff Lynne (ELO) as the producer and player, the album turned out to be one of his best selling albums and it caused a riff with the band. They eventually came back around and started playing these songs on tour.
The majority of this album was recorded in Mike Campbells studio and he's all over the record, but yeah, in interviews since it seemed that Benmont was the one guy the most put off by only being asked to play piano on one track and things weren't great with Howie at the time either. Stan Lynch always seemed to the the complainer, hehe, but love those guys as a band. I think it ended up being a good break for all of them and sparked some new creative steps for the whole band, plus it also got us the amazing Wilburys era :)
The second time I saw Tom Petty live, Chris Whitley was his opening act. It’s the first time I ever bought the CD of an opening act at a concert. Living With the Law is a great album and I think you’d love his style when you’re in the mood for some blues.
🎵 🙂 Two great Tom Petty songs are: "Here Comes My Girl" and "A Woman in Love." Personally, I feel "Here Comes My Girl" is the quintessential Tom Petty song - no one could cover it and do it justice.
Now these are 2 fantastic choices. "A Woman in Love." is very underrated and no top 5 Petty list is complete without "Here Comes My Girl". It touches your soul.
I would react to "You Got Lucky" - a song the heartbreakers almost never played live. Big hit. not one of Tom's favorites. But it's short and sweet, a perfect pop rock song. Beyond that, my favorite Tom Petty song - written when he was extremely young - "Don't Do Me Like That".

I am really enjoying your channel - I've been binging your videos and thanks to you, I've been looking at my favorite songs in a different way!

It is hard to cram in all 60 plus years of iconic music and movies inro your busy lives but you are doing great 👍
Always down for some Tom Petty (& The Heartbreakers). Gonna agree with quite a few here: "Here Comes My Girl", "Don't Do Me Like That" and "American Girl"
The GREAT Mike Campbell on lead. He's appearing in Eureka Springs, Arkansas either later this month or in May. Forget which. After the rocker Face in the Crowd was the next track on the album. Totally different vibe but sorta the same subject.
Someone you could check out is Steve Forbert "Romeo's Tune" or "Goin' Down to Laurel" or "The American in Me" he's a singer-songwriter, pop/americana/folk rock. I think you both would enjoy him.
This album is definitely filled with great music by Tom Petty. I know you guys have many many requests for songs...I'm still going to request that you listen to a few songs by Bob Welch...."Ebony Eyes " and "Sentimental Lady " Bob Welch was a former original member of Fleetwood Mac. I'd really appreciate it!! Thanks for making our day brighter and having fun with new music discovery!!🎉🎉
The whole album is fire! George Harrison's and Roy Orbison's (Cloud 9 and Mystery Girl resp.) as well - they were produced around the time of the Traveling Wilburys - and several of them participated on each others albums as musicians, producers (esp. Lynne), or songwriters. Actually the Wilburys evolved from a session for a B-side of a George single - the song was Handle with Care. They thought it is too good for a B-side and this George song became the first hit for this new band :)
You all should react to The Pet Shop Boys song “What Have I Done To Deserve This,” with special guest Dusty Springfield. Such a great song! Was released in 1987. I was in 9th grade when I came out and I have loved it ever since!
“Lucia. Do you know why you’re here?”

I know you guys have many many requests for songs...I'm still going to request that you listen to a few songs by Bob Welch...."Ebony Eyes " and "Sentimental Lady "
Bob Welch was a former original member of Fleetwood Mac. I'd really appreciate it!! Thanks for making our day brighter and having fun with new music discovery!!🎉🎉
You should listen to ‘I Need to Know’, ‘A Thing about You’, ‘Change of Heart’, and ‘Think about Me’.
Great song!
YOU WRECK ME, JAMMIN' ME, and SWINGIN' - official music videos, of course.
