At the end of the growing season when it is time to pull up the old plants, do you just throw away the roots or can you save some of the mycorrhizal fungi for the next season?
Great Question. I'm pretty sure that you could very well utilize the root system to cultivate more mycorrhizal fungi. Although I'm intrigued by the water box's efficiency, I'm also convinced they, the mycorrhizal fungi and water box, have nothing in common with mycorrhizal fungi benefiting the plants. They both benefit the plants but are not dependent on each other to help the plants.
A drip system and a biodegradable mulch, Preferably woody material obtained locally, would probably be more cost effective and naturally support itself by developing mycorrhizal fungi already biologically acclimatized.
Take up the old roots dry them and then chop them up. you can then place this material in your beds or potting material to re cultivate the mycorrhizal fungi. Cheers!
Yes put the roots of weeds or local native plants and or rinse them in a barrel of water add a cup of molasses and maybe some half cooked brown rice and aereate with a cheap aqareum aerator for a week or so in a shady place..the bacteria multiply. Water your plants with this. Several videos on UA-cam.
@@thomasackerman3995 I wonder if there would be any advantage to doing the same thing with tomatoes grown in a self-contained hydroponic DIY ? I’m currently trying to grow tomatoes in a 4litre jug mixed with water and nutrient mixes that I add on a regular basis. At present my roots are very clean and silky all white and I’m wondering if I can utilize them in a similar way to use the brew to add to the water of the next tomato plant that I try to grow in a similar hydroponic setup? I do use an air rock in with them.
I also wondered if it would be possible to create some similar type of brew to be used with same type roots for each individual vegetables that I’m growing. I did manage to grow picking cucumbers in a 4 litre container with an air rock. Unfortunately the leaves began to die off faster then I was able to yield many cucumbers but I was successful at growing 4 fully matured cucumbers in this indoor self contained environment. I know a lot of people don’t believe this can be done but I’m happy to report that as long as you are willing to top up the water and nutrients daily (I keep a separate 4litre jug with the same nutrients sitting aside waiting to use to add to any lost water in the jug with the plant, only one time I had to replace almost the entire 4 litres. I top it up every day and the quantity required varies from day to day. We also run a humidifier indoors to keep the air from being overly dry due to it being electric heat during a Canadian winter. I decided if I could grow cucumbers I should also be able to successfully grow sweet peppers and paste tomatoes. Those are my latest experiments and so far things are looking incredibly promising, the pepper plant has currently 4 peppers growing and several other blossoms that I will hand pollinate which will hopefully continue to grow more peppers. My learnings at present are extending to what all the plants really need to grow I know too much of something is just as bad as not enough. I also know that heavily chlorinated water and fluoride in the water can kill the plants. I leave the water for a minimum of 24hrs longer if I can manage it for the chlorine and fluoride to dissipate. I know especially once the plant begins to add its fruits it needs additional magnesium which I add with the flakes Epsom salts they seem to have the best dissolving and won’t damage the roots. I have many different types of commercial nutrients to add and at present I’m sticking with an all round blend, once I successfully harvest my first peppers after they have turned red because that is the variety of these. I may try a General Hydroponics the FloraBloom and see if I can increase my yield or see if it has a significant difference. All of my experiments are simply my hobby and I enjoy it very much. If you know if cutting up the roots of plants other then the tomato plant would be beneficial and mixed with molasses and water for a period of time and then slowly added to the same type of plant as the original roots came from please advise. I have an additional 4 litre jug with peppers growing they were seeded at the same time as the first set however I was attempting to grow them in soil in a different environment and since they were not doing well I’ve transplanted them to a hydroponic container of their own so if once the first plant has finished it’s growing and producing all the peppers that it will I’d certainly be willing to try the experiment of cutting the roots and adding molasses and water and an air rock which I could add to the second container after a month or so because the second plant is at minimum a month behind the first. I’d love to hear your opinion if you think it would help the plant, without attracting any creeping crawlers, these experiments are being done inside a home so the last thing I want to do is attract any sort of flying or crawling insects.🥰🇨🇦

The leaves are edible. Have I eaten some yet? No. Lol. Not so much a lack of water. Lots of mouths to feed with polluted water. People MUST grow what little they are able to with what they are able and stop crapping in their nests!
