It's crazy to think that for a majority of the Super Bowl era people just watched football without a consistent display of the clock, timeouts, scores, etc displayed on their TV screens.

Overall I think Eli Mannings connection in XLII was the most impressive play I ever saw in SB. The absolute will to win no matter what. And as a Pats Fan I hate to see it every time. But all the glory to Eli who grabbed his chance.

My favorites are that insane santonio Holmes catch, Eli's ridiculous throw down the sideline and of course...I have to say the greatest and most unexpected play in SB history is Malcolm Butler's int.

Whatever happened... happened. Im sure them looking back at the situation would have done many different things. Russell: change the play, lynch: speak up to change the play, coach: change the play. But its not even that the passing idea was bad, the defense was just prepared and made a play.

1000000% however the tracy porter interception put it away. I remember being in the terrace at sun life stadium. I was only in 2nd grade. Blessed to see our saints get their first title in my childhood whereas it took my grandparents 40 years for them to finally see a saints super bowl!

Devin Hester's td was seriously one of the most badass things I've ever seen in the NFL. Straight punched indy in the mouth on the very first play. it's a shame Grossman couldn't put that game away, but Hester will always be the GOAT return man for that season.
And he never had an impact in that game again. I would say Manning's throw to Wayne with Bears players hanging off him was equally as good..
I feel like Hester is still the GOAT return man of all time, not just that season

They were pretty spectacular, I can say that. They made everyone look like fools. And they faced some strong teams back then like the Redskins, Giants, and Bears, and just took them apart like a skilled mechanic taking apart an engine piece by piece. Particularly Chicago, sadly (although we did get then in 1985)...

Literally watched this video for the Giants one handed catch play. Eli refusing to go down, tossing a bullet, and David Tyree's sheer tenacity and will to hang on. If it isn't the greatest Super Bowl play of all time, then it's the most memorable to me.

Even though he had 20 return TDs in the regular season / for his career (this postseason / SuperBowl return TD that isn’t counted, for his 21st was my favorite).

@@Fallman10 As a Cardinals fan, it was the Harrison int. That was a huge 10-14 point swing and I think if Harrison doesn't score on it before halftime, it would have been a Cardinals win.
That gave the Steelers their 6th super bowl. Not 6 super bowls.

I'm a 49ers fan, I have many moments to choose from (Montana to Taylor in SB XXIII) but my favourite Superbowl was SB LII and the Philly Special. It's my 2nd favourite moment in sport ever behind Germany's winning goal in 2014 WC.

One of them is neat becauee he didnt go down. Thats whatever to me. I remember watching it and maybe its my cowboy side but the pass was average. The pass to Manningham is maybe the greatest throw ive ever seen. That play just my god.
In Super Bowl 50, I think it was actually Von Millers 2nd strip sack in the 4th Quarter that was the best play of the game. At that point, all the Panthers had to do was go down the field and get a touchdown to take the lead -- which shouldn't have been too hard for the League's best offense led by the League's MVP. The Broncos offense would have been hard-pressed to take back the lead as they had not been able to score a single touchdown the whole game. But instead Von got that strip sack, Cam pretty much threw in the towel when he decided not to dive for a recovery, and the Broncos got the ball on the Panther's door step and were able to eat a lot of clock before they _finally_ got their first touchdown. The first strip-sack was big - but the 2nd one was huge.

That final play by Gilmore sealed that game but the best AND most memorable play from that game was Jason McCourtey coming out of nowhere to breakup Brandin Cooks’ wide open touchdown!

The INT just iced the game. The onside kick kept a red hot Peyton Manning off the field and gave New Orleans the ball back and shifted momentum
@@americansportsfan1059 You can replace onside kick with the last INT and your sentence stays exactly the same. The Colts were 30 yards away from tying the game. The INT was the best play of the game, it happened when all the stakes were highest and everyone was playing their best. 7 point game and the Colts were driving 30 yards away from a tie. The onside kick helped start a momentum shift but there was still 30 minutes to play. Jumping a route and getting a pick 6 against one of the best Quarterbacks of all time at the end of the Superbowl the biggest game of the year was more important/impressive than recovering an onside kick against a team that wasnt even prepared for it. It was the best coaching call, not actual play. I'm not changing my opinion and you aren't changing yours and its fine that we disagree we all have our own thoughts.

More important, maybe. But it might not have mattered if we didn't score with the Philly Special. This video is for the "best" play, which leaves a lot of leeway for the NFL to decide what they thought was best.
But you could also argue that it wasn't even the best time that a play like that was run. Randle El's throw was way harder to make than Burton's.

I think he's rated right where he belongs. He had those 2 magical SBs (with a WC team both times); other than that he didn't accomplish a hell of a lot.
I'm surprised the Super Bowl XXXI one wasn't the Desmond Howard touchdown return. Not only was the 99-yard return a record at the time, but it also completely killed the momentum of the surging Patriots and sealed the game for the Packers.
EDIT: The Super Bowl XLIII pick must have been a tough call too, as James Harrison's 100+ yard interception return at the half was absolutely incredible. (And the play they DID show wouldn't have been a game winner without it.)
It really was a no brainer to me. Harrison’s int was ranked way higher on the nfl all time top 100 plays. It’s a far more impressive play too. Last years super bowl also has the wrong play. Gilmore’s int was the easiest thing I’ve ever seen, it should have been gronks clutch reception inside the 5.
I’m a pats fan and that Howard return was the play of the game as to reasons you stated.

There's value in doing the unexpected. Like, say, throwing a pass when everyone who knows anything about football knows that you are going to run.
Jared Masten Plus, back in 2015, passes had a better chance of working than running. Let’s also talk about the fact that the patriots had already stopped Marshawn a couple a times, and also, Marshawn needs room to build up speed and see whats happening. He’s not very good at just running in at everything and hoping it works. Whether he could have found a hole and slipped through, or Supermaned over the pile, who knows. I doubt he would have made it. It was the right call in the situation.
