I remember when my parents helped me get a used car for college. She threw just a bit of salt on it, saying something in Italian to wish me good luck. Forty-seven years later, it still brings a tear to my eye.
Mighty proud of Wawa for sticking with the difficult work, not getting upset about a little grease and learning what to do and not to do on her very first car! Big props Wawa!!
Her 1st car....what a thrill for her....these precious times working together as a family on her own car, will give her some fantastic memories that will only get better as time goes on! Your family rocks....good on you!!!

Very well said....as a parent sometimes it's difficult to see how you are shaping your children's future. The lessons your teaching right now go so much further then just fixing things. I'm in awe of how you've turned your passion for both your hobby and your family into a marketable career. Even moreso you all seem to be staying humble and thankful every step of the way.
Great job Wawa! I can't wait to see you behind the wheel cruising in the car YOU helped bring back to life! There's a certain sense of pride you get knowing that YOUR time and energy put that car back on the road. Reminds me of my first vehicle- a 1970 Datsun pickup. It needed all new brakes, a clutch and a few other odds & sods before it was driveable but to this day it is my most fondly remembered car because of the work I put into it. It was still just a beater, but it was MY beater! I hope this Beetle does the same for you!
A Beetle is a excellent starting point to learning about mechanics. I own 2 and love everything about them. Great to see you guys making excellent progress.
I can bet that this first car will be Wawas most treasured possession her whole life. Because its something that was built with love from the start to whenever it gets finished and she starts driving it and even after too. Can't wait to see this beetle all ready to roll one day.
It’s just awesome to see the whole family working to build this cute little bug for their big sister. Wawa is such a good sport, and knows when to ask Daddy for his help. Ralph is great helping out his big Sis too. Even Sqeezie is helping out here and there. I am guessing that y’all are out on the road burning down the miles by the time this airs. Have fun and make memories together.🎉🎉😊
Such great family time. It is great to see a dad taking time to teach the kids how to work on old cars, especially Wawa's first car. I would, however, make sure that the kids wear safety glasses when working on the brake springs. My cousin lost an eye when a brake spring let go while installing brakes. It would be heartbreaking to have any of the kids suffer such an injury.
Wawa is the only one out of the family that doesn’t wear glasses, so the pair she was wearing was safety glasses, you could tell by the side shields as well. But you point is valid, safety first.
Anytime my dad was out fixing his 64 New Yorker I’d go out and watch him. One extremely cold, snowy, February in New England his starter gave out and I received my education in profanity as he busted his fingers in the freezing cold trying to get that pig out. When he finished, he reminded me that Santa Claus doesn’t stop at houses where kids repeat to mommy those words used while busting his knuckles!
I enjoyed Part 1 and cannot wait for Part 2. I grew up as the youngest of four children and the only girl so my heart is so touched by Wawa being right in the middle with her parents and siblings in the garage. These are also my fondest memories from my childhood! As girls/women, we may not have the hand strength to grip and "wrench" like the guys but we can get our little hands into places the big guy hands can't. Keep on keeping on Wawa! You have skills that most girls/women will never have and it is yours for life! 🎉❤👍
I love the fact that you let your kids try a procedure and encourage them when they fail. I enjoyed watching WaWa progress to the point that she could install brake springs without help!
I love that Wawa bought her first car with her own money with a contribution from mom and dad. Down the road when she is wealthy and could buy any car she wants this VW will always be the best and most important car in her life. Josh you are awesome for helping her get it safely on the road and teaching her how to work on it and to learn that hard work and determination is involved in anything you do in life. This will prepare her and all of your kids for life. Great parenting is so hard to come by now a days and you two are one of the best.

This family always has me smiling even when I don’t realize it. I literally catch myself smiling without knowing it. Just a wholesome all around fun channel to watch.
Y’all have made problem solving fun for your children. This is a skill they can use forever. What you’re doing here with your children is a teaching aid that many parents can use to get and keep their children involved.
Will be happy to see part two on Monday. WaWa did a great job with those brakes and Ralphie was bound and determined to get those casings off of the hoops. Thanks again for working so hard to put out more videos for us even though you're under the gum to get that RV project finished up too.
You two are such good parents. I just lost my 93 year old dad who just passed. As a little girl, I remember hanging out with him as he fixed old cars like this. One of our last conversations was reminiscing how he replaced rusted floor in a ‘66 Mustang (this was back in the early ‘70s when it was just a cheap used car and not the classic it is today). I treasure those memories and your children will too! WELL DONE WaWa!🎉🎉
I was fortunate to have strong woman in my life . My grandmother was a riveter in world war 2 making bombers and the raising to boy into men by her self.
I’m so very glad that Wawa is going to become a Master Mechanic! Thanks Dad! Complete with grease face and all! Good goin’ girl! Shocks, CV joints, complete clutch rebuild, fog lights, wipers, plugs, wires… she’s gonna learn a bunch!!!!
I’m so happy for WaWa! I’ve watched both the WaWa gets a car and Ralphie gets a car videos probably 5 times each. I drove home with my dad from the dealership in his new ‘73 Super Beetle and that was our family car until the ‘80s. You’re super lucky to have found a bottle that is basically rust free. I’d love to see a collaboration with a VW UA-camr!
To see Wawa really get into the project and tackle those brakes reminded me of working on stuff with my dad these are the core memories that she will cherish and they are priceless! Great job you guys. I truly hope you got the RV figured out and are finally getting ready to get out of town and out on your adventure. Me those memories be sweet and Outlast the last time this was tried. You have the All-American family! proud to say I get to watch your family dynamic and bear whities to there awakening in the car world. One of them junkers that you've got out there that runs and might need some sprucing up on the outside might let squeezy paint it up like a 60s Volkswagen bus. I bet she could come up with a pretty neat design on something that otherwise might get looked over. And if she's doodling on a car you done hit the trifecta. Truly enjoy seeing the kids get to enjoy and watch their confidence grow. You guys are doing it right.
I Don't even know you guys, but I feel so proud of Wawa. I Feel sorry for any guy that she dates when she gets older. You guys are doing a stellar job raising your kids. The memories made now will last forever. I Wish I had parents like you when I was growing up.
Wawa's Bettle is coming together nicely! Great parenting as well. I'm really looking forward to the part two of this video. Monday can't come soon enough! 🙂
So many people, these days, can't even check their oil, let alone do running repairs to their vehicles. It's great to see you guys teaching your kids the how-to. Also; kudos to the kids for getting stuck into it. PS: Bugs are great. Good choice of first car, Wawa.👍
Great video love to see WaWa and Ralphie adding to their confidence levels! I think if the lift was down lower to WaWa's reach level, she and Ralphie would be able to see better what they are doing and get more leverage as well. You are a great teacher, Josh and Tosh is a great encourager. Loved the Daddy Brad-y and his sidekick cameo in this one. I agree with WaWa...nothing but blue grease for her car! Looking forward to part 2... it'll be a long wait. Love the family, content, and channel.
Wawa's face was hilarious! She is soooo cool, and she's sure going to love driving that car after all the work you all did. Great work on the brakes, Wawa, and great video!!
Incredible family that's not afraid of a bit of hard work! Kudos to Wawa for getting in there and learning how to install brakes! Love watching y'all working together!
Wawa is getting to be quite the car fixed just like Ralphy. That little one is quite the artist. Wish these videos were longer cause they are so interesting!!. And I'm an old gal. So you got my vote. You ALL got a great family show.
Ralphie has got the tire removal process down! He could go work at a tire shop if he wasn’t 12! Great job Ralphie! And Wawa did real good on them brakes too. Brakes are one thing I try to avoid having to do!! Josh, you’re an amazing father to these kids! This world needs more dads like you!
Wawa you’re willing to keep at it,that’s what it takes and the rewards are breathtaking the accomplish feeling it’s hard to replace, when you have a great teacher like your dad it’s priceless keep on keeping on god bless. Pretty soon you’ll get the job done an not a spot of dirt on you.
As a VW owner for the better part of 50 years, I sympathize with y'all. I've changed engines, clutches, replaced brakes, master cylinders, carbs, generator, just about anything needed although never rebuilt an engine. In fact, I just sold my 71 Super Beetle in March and am no longer in the VW world. There are a couple of things you might be aware of, but the accelerator cable and clutch cable are subject to wear and can break. I have replaced each several times, especially the accelerator cable. The single best modification I made was the installation of a Pertronix electronic ignition, the car ran like an entirely different vehicle. My 72 Super Beetle was the same color as the one y'all have. These are great cars, tough, you can't tear one up. Good luck with it and have fun always.
I think has fueled Wawa’s interest in all cars and trying to understand them. Think you have made a young lady mechanic. That dirt on her face shows commitment. Thanks for sharing! 💯👊👍
Fine work! Great team effort. Love the humour used in your approach to fixing the car up. You’re teaching your kids well. Your daughter will never forget this great experience and she’s learning some great skills and values along the way! Thumbs up to you all 👍
WAWAs friends are going to love this car, they will love it more when they find out how easy it is to pick it up off the ground. We had a friend in school that had one and some days when he got to the parking lot it would be in a different place LOL Y'all bring back so many good memories of how much fun we had
Not just a job. You are making memories that the entire family will remember all of their lives. Years from now, Wawa will be telling her kids about the time their Grandpa helped her rebuild her first car.
If not for my father I would have been sunk on car repairs and small engines. His passing his knowledge on to me has been priceless through out my entire lifetime. There was no jumping on line UA-cam back then.
I can't think of a more deserving 14 year old (Boy or Girl) than Wawa to get their dream car..........She's a hard worker and not afraid to get her hands dirty 👍👍👍
Its wonderful to see the kids learning mechanics, Wawa's deffenately not scared of getting her hands dirty, most girls her age would be complaining about their nails ect. You pair have great parenting skills thats for sure. Imagine in the future all three kids working together on their cars, helping each other out.👍🏴
I hope my son is into car when hes older, would love to have a father and son working on a car like I did with my dad, its good times that a kid will never forget.
You know I love y'all, and your videos. Couple of things, both on another note. Put a little mirror on the wall nearby. LOL. Also, long ago my Uncle was in a nursing home. I took my Mom to see him for lunch a few days a week. While they ate, I made use of their piano in the dining hall. I played old rock and roll. The people there had no idea what I was playing, but in their minds I was playing old songs that thay LOVED. It really lifted their hearts. So, tell Wa-Wa, if she finds it in her heart to do more of that, it means a lot to people stuck there. Great job Squeezy! Keep up the good work. And may God bless!!!
At least Wawa is not afraid to get her hands and face covered in grease so well done it's a big learning curve for her love the quality time you have with your kids Josh.
Nice job teaching the kid’s valuable lessons Josh, they’ll save a ton of cash by doing their own brakes, Wawa just needs a little more practice on those retainers and she’ll have it down pat. Can’t wait to see this buttoned up, and she’s lucky to be able to get a learners permit at her age I had to wait until after my 16th birthday to get mine. She’s going to have a ton of fun in this car and you guys made the right decision in grabbing all new parts for the brakes why risk it for a couple of bucks savings. Let’s hope that electronic ignition works with the new carb.
Well done Wawa you did a great job and there is nothing better than working on your own car you get to learn now it works and a real sense of achievement And if the lift was a bit lower you could have got those brake retaing clips in a lot easier Love watching you all work together and having fun doing it 😊
This is so heartwarming. She’s in love with this car for sure. I’m amazed how much focus she has and how quick she’s learning. Absolutely enjoyed this video in particular. The children are lucky to have you as such warm and loving parents! ❤greetings from The Netherlands.
A 2 part Sleepercrew video is like a KFC Bag O Tea,too much to take in all at once, gotta take the rest home to enjoy later! Excellent job,Josh, working side by side with your kids..and WaWa you are now brake certified! Thank you so much for making my whole week!
I just want to say that I'm glad WaWa was wearing her safety glasses for this job especially installing the springs in the drums. I say that, because yesterday I was doing the exact same thing without glasses. I was using needle nose pliers to pull the spring to the hook point and the pliers slipped. I was straining pretty hard and the pliers flew around and hit me in the eye. I was fortunate that it only tore the white part of my eye and not the Cornea. I will be dropping antibiotics for 2 weeks to prevent infection. Learn from me! I recommend the glasses be Z87 rated, which is evident by that code being molded into the frame of the glasses somewhere. I had safety glasses within arm's length but assumed the job wasn't worthy of them. I'm old, but still learning. Even if it is the hard way most times.
I remember learning drum brakes when I was about Wawa's age. I remember feeling very frustrated with the springs. I know that she will be an old pro in no time!
I can't remember if I ever saw Andy Griffith and Opie work on a car. Y'all have one of the best shows on. I can't wait to see the motor home on the road
Incredible video. I can’t believe how into the world of dirt and grease Wawa has gotten, and loving it. She and Ralphie make very apt students under Josh’s tutelage. Mom also joined the fun. Your videos are so enjoyable to watch. They make the hour go by so fast, leaving us wanting more of them. 😊😊
In 1971 my grandparents drove a 1960 beetle from London To Morocco across to Tunisia got a ferry and drove back through Italy, apart from a bad casing it never missed a beat no matter what country they were in... ✌🏻I have some great pictures my grandma took that I'll treasure forever 🙏🏻 My mother was born may 1972 so I was probably conceived somewhere along the way 🥲🤣
From years and years of VW type one engine builds I'd suggest you adjust the valves when cold. .006 intake and .008 exhaust. make sure #3 cylinder is 100% adjusted correctly so you dont drop a value. #3 runs hotter then all the rest as it dosnt get as good of air flow as the other 3 cylinders. Good luck, have fun
Watching these smiley family videos sort of partly heals my childhood as you can almost imagine being there and part of it. It's clear from the mechanical side that, unless you have bags of money, classical cars need a great deal of family time and expertise put into them! My local U.K. garage would charge around £ 2,000, for those siezed four wheels. The tyres (casings you call them) cost would have been charged extra. Truly.
Craig/Wawa so proud of you, seeing you work on your very own car and actually getting her hands dirty. Your wifes laugh is great love it. The whole family is very fun to watch and work together.
Way to go WaWa! So excited for your first car. I remember my first VW 1968 with a roll out moon roof. Loved that car. $5 in gas and it would go forever 😅. Cold in winter though. If it wouldn’t go forwards in snow I’d throw it in reverse. Never left me stranded. ❤
It is so awesome to see your children doing things I done with my brothers and dad in the 70s and 80s. Bc kids now usually have to be bribed to even go outside. You and Tosh are great parents and I would have loved for you to have been my dad even though I have a super great dad.
Just love this one and the '71 Bug. I had a 72 just like it. Just tell Wawa that the blue grease is just dye in the grease to make it the color the manufacturer wants. Never seen one with the shade of blue that matches her car. That's so cool ! Keep up the great work ya'll !! ❤❤
Josh, your daughter looked amazed at how you did the drum brake springs. You'll have to give her something more difficult like the rear springs on drum brakes for a Lincoln or Cadillac!.
Stumbled upon your channel when you bought the car. Your family is amazing! Love your family and your videos! Thank you for sharing your lives with us!
One of the first things I learned earlier in my Auto Technician Life was HEAT IS YOUR FRIEND! Something I always remember my Dad taught me was always start a fasteners in reverse to line up the threads so not to cross thread ☺️

Thank you we appreciate it
@@Sleeperdude You're welcome. Just think, Wawa is really close now to doing her first Cannonball Run in the beetle 🙂
Can’t wait to see the smile on Wawa’s face when she drives it after all the hard work she put in.
Thank you
So many people, these days, can't even check their oil, let alone do running repairs to their vehicles. It's great
to see you guys teaching your kids the how-to.
You guys are definitely killing it! Your videos are getting better and better every time you guys are so awesome!!! I definitely love the bug!!
Thanks so much
Wawa's face was hilarious! She is soooo cool, and she's sure going to love driving that car after all the work you all did. Great work on the brakes, Wawa, and great video!!
This makes me happy for Wawa. She'll remember this time for all of her life.
I think so too
Incredible family that's not afraid of a bit of hard work! Kudos to Wawa for getting in there and learning how to install brakes! Love watching y'all working together!
It’s the giggling, you just can’t make that up. It makes me think of how much fun we had as kids. Great job on the bug Wawa!! Great job Mom & Dad!!!
Yes! Thank you!
i love the beetle, love the blue on it. it just precious time working together showing her how to work on her first car.
Thank you
Wawa is getting to be quite the car fixed just like Ralphy. That little one is quite the artist. Wish these videos were longer cause they are so interesting!!. And I'm an old gal. So you got my vote. You ALL got a great family show.
Wow what a great job dad did on teaching his kids! Brings me back to my early family times, taught my kids stuff like that! Well done
By the time Wawa is 18 she will be a better mechanic than most professionals thanks to having an awesome dad. Good on ya brother 👍
for the beetle
Wow thank you so much for your generosity!we really appreciate it!
Thank You, another awesome video ! The mention of rebuilding wheel cylinders option brought back memories of working with dad in the early sixties 👍😘💕
She’s doing good
AWESOME JOB! I was blown away seeing the kids actually working on brakes and tires! Incredible!!
Fine work! Great team effort. Love the humour used in your approach to fixing the car up. You’re teaching your kids well. Your daughter will never forget this great experience and she’s learning some great skills and values along the way! Thumbs up to you all 👍
Thanks 👍
WAWAs friends are going to love this car, they will love it more when they find out how easy it is to pick it up off the ground. We had a friend in school that had one and some days when he got to the parking lot it would be in a different place LOL Y'all bring back so many good memories of how much fun we had
☝️✍️❤️❤
Not just a job. You are making memories that the entire family will remember all of their lives. Years from now, Wawa will be telling her kids about the time their Grandpa helped her rebuild her first car.
If not for my father I would have been sunk on car repairs and small engines. His passing his knowledge on to me has been priceless through out my entire lifetime. There was no jumping on line UA-cam back then.
I can't think of a more deserving 14 year old (Boy or Girl) than Wawa to get their dream car..........She's a hard worker and not afraid to get her hands dirty 👍👍👍
Thank you
Its wonderful to see the kids learning mechanics, Wawa's deffenately not scared of getting her hands dirty, most girls her age would be complaining about their nails ect. You pair have great parenting skills thats for sure. Imagine in the future all three kids working together on their cars, helping each other out.👍🏴
I hope my son is into car when hes older, would love to have a father and son working on a car like I did with my dad, its good times that a kid will never forget.
Yes that would be awesome
Great work Wawa. You did yourself proud working on your VW with Raphie and Josh . Awesome video as always Sleeperdude family.
Thank you
Well done Wawa you did a great job and there is nothing better than working on your own car you get to learn now it works and a real sense of achievement
And if the lift was a bit lower you could have got those brake retaing clips in a lot easier
Love watching you all work together and having fun doing it 😊
☝️✍️❤️
This is so heartwarming. She’s in love with this car for sure. I’m amazed how much focus she has and how quick she’s learning. Absolutely enjoyed this video in particular. The children are lucky to have you as such warm and loving parents! ❤greetings from The Netherlands.
A 2 part Sleepercrew video is like a KFC Bag O Tea,too much to take in all at once, gotta take the rest home to enjoy later!
Excellent job,Josh, working side by side with your kids..and WaWa you are now brake certified! Thank you so much for making my whole week!
Y’all are a great family. Love watching you work together!
Oh my gosh that’s awful!
Family time working on the Beetle is just amazing 👏 i can't wait to see part 3 from this project. 😁
Coming soon
I remember learning drum brakes when I was about Wawa's age. I remember feeling very frustrated with the springs. I know that she will be an old pro in no time!
I hope so
This bring back a lot of memories when I bought my first car I know how she feels and how she loves that car
Wawa and her face was cracking me up. She is learning so much.
Us too!! Thank youb
Amazing to see a girl of 14 working shoulder to shoulder to her limits on a tough project, day after day! Really nice people.
I had a 64' bug that I did the brakes on. Those rear drums are just brutal. Good job gang!
☝️✍️❤️❤
Wawa should be very proud of herself ' hard work for her but so many memories ' love this channel and your family ツxxx
Thank you
I can't remember if I ever saw Andy Griffith and Opie work on a car. Y'all have one of the best shows on. I can't wait to see the motor home on the road
Thank you
Thanks guys! Enjoyed watching this Beetle series so far. You are a great family and team x
Glad you enjoyed it!!! thank you so much
Incredible video.
Thank you she is doing great
In 1971 my grandparents drove a 1960 beetle from London To Morocco across to Tunisia got a ferry and drove back through Italy, apart from a bad casing it never missed a beat no matter what country they were in...

Craig/ Wawa is so patient putting those brake springs on!
too long? never! I'll watch you working on a VW all day. Great memories. I've owned a 60, 63conv, 63, 66 and 72SB
Thank you
It is so awesome to see your children doing things I done with my brothers and dad in the 70s and 80s.
Thank you
Love watching your whole family spend time together in the shop. Congratulations Wawa on your first car and good for her learning how to work on it!
Thank you for taking care of all those animals = we love animals = Especially kittens
Thanks so much!!
So in love with this Family.. cute, loving and caring.. Great job all of you
☝️✍️❤️❤
Super cool yins guys. Your children will remember this forever. Keep up the great work
☝️✍️❤️
One of the first things I learned earlier in my Auto Technician Life was HEAT IS YOUR FRIEND! Something I always remember my Dad taught me was always start a fasteners in reverse to line up the threads so not to cross thread ☺️
Cool to see you and the kids. working on her car. I gave my grand son a amc eagel wagon. 1983. We are getting it ready for his high school day's.
That’s great!!
