  • Hello friends in this video we will be synthesising Azoxybenzene by the partial reduction of nitrobenzene with methanol in the presence of sodium hydroxide. The two intermediary products formed (viz Nitrosobenzene and N -phenylhydroxylamine ) condenses to form azoxybenzene.

    Does that form formaldehyde, formic acid or go straight to CO2?

    Are you really sure that your product is azoxy benzene?
    Normally it's made by mild oxidation of nitrobenzene with arsenic trioxide and the crystals are orange then.
    Have you tested the melting point?

    Your math is wrong. There cannot be mass increase from reaction of two nitrobenzenes to one azoxybenzene. IE molar mass approx doubles, but number of molecules approx halves. Therefore the mass should stay about the same.

      You can use derivatives of it as photoswitches

      It was used as a biozide against the varroa mite.
