What a wonderful service your are giving to artists!
Wow, the satellite image and hands on a clock thing totally makes sense to me.Very cool, thanks
Stefan Baumann said to buy your color checker. He said to just pay you the money, you developed it and deserve it. Also, he said to not bother trying to make your own. I've been watching him for much longer than I have you, but I'm learning a lot from you. I'm saving for one now. It won't be long. Next I'm going to save to buy your paints. I use clove oil in my China painting and love the smell.
I know you have heard this before, but you are a gift. Especially for those of us who cannot access, or get out for lessons, which I honestly doubt would be anywhere as good anyway. I have struggled with this for years and, in how many minutes.. aha moments!
I truly appreciate you taking the time to make this video.
I love the clock trick. I never thought on angles like that before, which is one of the trickiest things when transfering the drawing. Brilliant!! Thanks for sharing all this wisdom
"Drawing From the Right Side of the Brain" is a great book on this subject
Thinking of the shapes like a flat satellite image is such a clever way to un-3D the mind! Thank you for your great videos. I’ve learned so much from you!!
I often go back & watch your excellent videos many times. Thank you.
Simple yet very wise advice.
Overflowing with gratitude! Thanks 👨🎨
Not having a lot of time in a day, I’ve found this video brief, precise and helpful! Just covers the main points. Thanks.
What Mark shares is so good. Its years of learning condensed.
Back in the 60's we call it a artist eye . Thank you for your Help an TIME . Straight Ahead
Dear Mark, I am totally addicted to your videos. Thank you so much for sharing your wisdom with us!
these are the tricks you only realize after years and years of experience. Sensational video!
These videos are always soooo helpful. Thank you very much for putting these out there for us novices without any formal type training. Truly.
Dear, sir, a big and warm THANK to you for your very good instructional video covering the drawing skill to make the shape more accurate! Wishing you all the Best! All blessings to you dear, sir and for your loved ones as well! Greetings from Sweden!
1:30 the little happy face on the fish is a nice touch :D
Wonderful information. So helpful.
a lot of the same tricks i use when freehand drawing real life scenes. thank you for pointing those out!
A trick I've used for years when looking for shapes is to close one eye. We see in stereo. The space between our eyes lets us see with "depth perception," which can also influence the shape we're seeing. By closing one eye while studying a shape lets us see it as a simple, flat shape without dimension. In other words, closing one eye removes the all the distracting elements we see with stereo vision. We see it as flat . . . as nothing more than a shape.
I agree - this works.
We do not actually see in stereo to the extent that is commonly thought - our eyes are not that far apart, and thus we only get noticeable parallax for things that are within arms' reach - which, if you think about it, is also the range where it does most good to have stereo vision in the first place.
Look ahead to the other side of your room and cover one eye, then the other. Do you see a parallax shift (for objects over _there_ ; the vase on you table will jump, sure enough)? You'd need a head like a hammerhead shark to get stereo benefit at that range. This is probably why that shark has a head shaped like that!
What about these old view master pics of landscapes then, you ask? To photograph these, they place the camera's many yards apart.
But you say this trick works for you. I would suggest this is because you make yourself more receptive to the sort of tricks Mark describes in his video. You _believe_ your vision has "flattened."
Good point. I have one eye covered all the time because of an eye problem due to MS. You'd think I could draw better:-)
I think this helps a little, but the 3D vision we have i more in the brain than in the eyes. i.e. when we were babies, our brains trained themselves to interpret the data from both eyes to render them as 3D. when you close one eye, your brain is still working to interpret what you see as 3D
Many thanks! The best collection of 'tricks' I've seen. All extremely useful. No 'fillers'.
The ruler trick also helps you see that most bent lines aren't as bendy as you thought they might be.
I'd like to hope that means it is possible I have a flat abdomen...
Thank you very much for these tricks Mark....appreciate them
Thanks Mark this is excellent! I’m starting a sight size drawing class on Saturday and this will be very helpful. You’re awesome! Cheers
Never thought about the angles as hands on a clock, but it makes total sense. Thank you so much.
Brilliant! Can't wait to try these. Thank you!
best art channel ❤
This video was very true and I find you have a very wise perspective on the various processes of creating art . Thanks Mark.
Thank you for these terrific tips! I hadn't thought of using a ruler to see the shapes & negative space. And the proportional divider will work much better than a pencil.
And thank you so much for sharing all, much appreciated
Great methods. I've never taught that way.
this is so helpful! so glad someone recommended me your channel! thank you sm for sharing 💞
Fantastic advice! Thank you so much for sharing!
Thanks for sharing these useful tricks
I think Mark is wonderful!
Thank you for uploading this!
Thank u very much for these tips. Have watched all ur videos and follow all instructions as u say. Highly appreciating ur talent as an artist as well as a teacher. Wishing to meet u sometime in person.
Always grateful for the free advice,Mark. I truly appreciate that you're not an art snob, but genuine and honest to those that desire the best in their calling. Again, many thanks!!!!
Excellent! Thank you for these great tips. It will help me, I'm sure.
Thank you so much
Perfect tips, thank you!
Thanks for sharing last tip was awesome
i learn a lot from him
Thank you for all of your videos, Mark. I'd love to see a video of you demonstrating how you match colors when using an image on your computer monitor or iPad as your reference material. Using photographic prints works well, but it's not always an option, and ink is expensive. Thank you!
I know you probably already know this but, just in case, there is a 'colour picker' app I find really helpful to isolate exact colours. There is also an artist Jason Morgan on UA-cam who demonstrates how to use photo editing to do the same. I hope you find this helpful.
Debra Moss Thank you for your tips - i do not know them but it sounds interesting and I will check it out
Thanks, Mark.👍🏼👍🏼❤️
Amazing Tips! Thanks a lot. These are really helpful.
Learned good stuff! Thanks so much!
Thankyou, thankyou for your great videos.
Great tips!
Thank you! Very helpful.
Thanx Mark!
Thank you very much :) Great tips!
Man I love you and I’m still waiting for more content :)
Thank you :3
Thanks
The silhouettes are already helping me and I didn't even start drawing yet
Thank you
You're like a fairy godfather to me 🤗
(1) Seeing 2D shapes
(2) Visualizing silhouettes
(3) Visualizing satellite image
(4) Put a ruler under it
(5) Visualizing angles of lines as hands on a clock
(6) Use a proportional divider or the like to measure angles
(7) Plot proportions before drawing - Use brush handle and thumb
Can't thank you enough.
I love listening to your voice. You should consider reading for audible. The tenor of your voice actually helps me retain what you are teaching.
Carder is a name I mentioned to an agent of Portrait ... in Berminhan long ago, Homage to you!
There is always the grid method! Thank you for the video.
grid is fine, but can still warp.
Mr. Carder can you do a video about plotting proportions using one’s thumb? Thanks
2:35 I recognize that image!!!! Arizona, lake Mead on the left, Lake Powell on the right.
Thumbs up from me. Free lesson. What can be bad about that. 7.30 of free lesson content, 30 seconds telling us about how he makes a living. Seems fair to me.
excellent tips! In addition maybe, have you ever thought of using a grid-method to transfer a photo to your canvas? :)
Using the right side of your brain. Many other uses for the dividers to.
This guy gives out a vibe like he was forced to do this video
Do you do semi private classes that are a bit cheaper?
The down votes must be from people looking for piss artists. Priceless tips as usual from this master.
Facts they are so ignorant...he Is a gifted master and painter
Maybe I'll use a projector 🤫.... haha
Well, well, well... I like it, I like the video!
Estaré explorando tu canal, así que... It seems like trick as card. Card up your sleeve!
The important thing about all these tricks is observation. Oh, of course, never forget hand-eye coordination. As it is a battle without defeat, the eye has to fight with the hand either the foot; cough, cough ... yes or no, sir foot or mouth, don´t you? So, Mr. View, you have to make a relationship with Hand brothers.
Disculpo mi englishgnolo o mejor conocido espanglish, but sometimes se sale eso de mezcla, porque idk.
Someone out there recommended me to explore your channel.
sorry that lines or this proportion that seems a form.
The shirts are getting crispier.
That is why people see Jesus Christ face, Mary figure and angel on toasts.
E This morning I ate the three wisemen and Noah’s ark for breakfast. It was delicious and uplifting
