An intelligent, well researched, courteous interview. Tom really allows Cliff to expand and tell the whole story without butting in, only stepping in to offer considered observations or ask thoughtful questions. Cliff's energy and mental acuity is simply astonishing. I always liked Cliff's voice and singing skills not to mention that some of his songs have been absolute gems.

I live in America, and Cliff Richard is my favorite singer! I have seen celebrities in public, and don’t go crazy, but if I ever saw Cliff here I would have a hard time not wanting to say hello! Great interview Tom, well done. Some old fans are still around , waiting to see Cliff again next year, would love to have met him so you are very lucky. I started loving his music when I was 6 years old (according to my mum) watching him on our black and white TV, I am now 61 and will never stop loving his music. The trolls on here who have nothing better to do but make nasty untruthful coments should be sued for defamation of character. there are thousands of fans out there wwho will always stand by this great man. My name is Aung Myo from Myanmar @ Burma very close border nation of India where our Rock& Roll legend was born. We have been crazy about his music and style as well, since the first time we heard his song on radio in early 60, from Move It, Summer Holiday, Vision, All My Love to present time.
In my life I prayed God to buy Cliff's album in London. Fortunately I had been to Singapore in August1989, and coincidentally Cliff arrived in Singapore for fund raising and stayed at Metro Politan Hotel, I think.
I collected the Strait Times with Cliff's photo on the first page. I bought a lot of cliff's album on tape including "Stronger" sorry we had no Cd player in 1989.
As the time passed by my wish was fulfilled again, I had been to London in 1999, I can't find any words to say how I got happy for short stay in london. I bought Cds and video tapes of Cliff's movies Young Ones and Summer Holiday, I remember Cliff performed on stage as Heathcliff in Ballard at the time I had been in London
I have never been tired to talk about Cliff and sing his songs playing my guitar.
However extremelly I want to see him, I failed to shake hand with him, during his short visit to Burma couple of years ago.
Let me copy some words in the lyric of his hit ' "Constantly" Though we may be far apart, you're constantly deep in my heart"

My great granddaughter comes running when she hears you (she is 20 months old now.) So yo have at least one young fan that is listening to you. She loves eyes of a child, she climbs up in my lap gets real quite and when it ends she wants more. Claps and try to sing with you when you sing gospel. Which I love to watch because she is just starting to talk clearly, but she sings in her way with emotions that has feeling you can see in her.

There are many more great songs in Cliff's catalogue that are never heard: 'Cant take the hurt anymore' for example, a beautiful ballad from the 1978 album 'Green Light'. Best albums if you're just discovering Cliff: 'Something's Going On' (2004), 'Cliff Richard The Album' (1993), 'Real As I Wanna Be' (1998) and there are so many more...

My signed 'HeathCliff the Rock Opera musical DVD signed personally in December 2018, has to be 1 of my definite favourites out of over 90 autographs by Cliff that I have.

I first heard Cliff Richard sing a song for a Billy Graham movie. Was amazed, didn’t know who he was or how to find his music in the states, life marched on and rediscovered him about two years ago on UA-cam. Listened to as many of his concerts as I could find on UA-cam. I don’t know why we never heard him again.i never cared about the Beetles, Cliff Richards could sing circles around those guys and so much more handsome. Wish he had been promoted in the US, he was and is the best. Only an opinion from KC, USA.

Having grown up with Cliff and The Shads music in the late 50’s and early 60’s at school you realise why he was successful. Not only was he a great rock n’roll singer in that era, plus he was very fortunate to have people like Ian Samwell in his early band the Drifters writing brilliant rock music (Move It) that captured the public’s attention, then add into the mix that he later had the best guitar band in history - The Shadows, you then have a combo that was the best around. There were other good singers in Britain at the time but there was nothing to compare with Cliff and the Shads, there was an aura about them that has remained to this day, basically they were and still are very very good.
The Beatles came along with a newer and fresher music in ‘63 and changed the pop and rock world forever. Then Cliff sang a lot of dross in the late 60’s and early 70’s, but because he had that early fame and the fact he was able to adapt to new and better rock music with the help of Bruce Welch with the I’m Nearly Famous album, he’s never looked back. Even his mates the Shadows went on to write and record brilliant albums until the early 2000’s.
I think Cliff under estimates himself and certainly the music industry does. You don’t survive that long unless you are good.

It's a shame Cliff is not more well known in the USA. I live here now and am constantly amazed that people say "who" when I mention him. On the TV there are radio channels and I always listen to the Golden Oldies one but I have yet to hear a Cliff song. The channel features lots of British groups and singers but never Cliff. Don't know why but have never found out who to contact about this. I've followed his career for years and love his music. I can't say I'm a fan in the true sense of the word (like I am a fan of Elvis) but he is the one constant still around from my childhood and I've come to appreciate him more and more over the years. He is interesting to listen to, has an amazing memory for the pop culture he has lived through and I eagerly await his new book that comes out at the end of October. BTW, one of my mates from years ago in England wrote a book on Cliff and I am wondering if he is the person Cliff referred to in this interview.

I live in America and I didn't know until today that you were singing at a young age. I had a song on an album that music came upon UA-cam and the group you had are guitar heroes. You're still good looking man.
Elvis is dead, Michael Jackson is dead, you're still here. I love your music.

Have always been a fan of Cliff. I live in Australia and he has always been very popular over here. I've been to three concerts. I must say he looks much better letting his hair go naturally grey.

Amen...It is YOUR success that is predictable. I don't even think people who say your predictable as being a 'put down' because anything they say will never 'put you down' or bring you down and that's because Your success is predictably successful.

Fascinating interview. I started looking for Cliff Richard music only a couple of weeks ago after seeing the video on UA-cam of All I Ask of You with Sarah Brightman. I had no idea who he was( I'm in Canada) at first until I listened to " Here Comes Summer" and wow that took me back to when I was a teenager coming out of high school. We would sing that song all the time. It is sad how the music scene has changed. I grew up during a time when there was music playing in my house most of the time and of course I listened to rock and roll and pop music on the radio. OK here goes - They were the "good old days". Thanks for your music Cliff!

It is rare to find an interviewer, that listens and goes with it - not just sticking to rehearsed questions, who is knowledgable of their subject and who lets the interviewee expand and talk without interrupting. Cliff is a professional at interviews doing them for so long, but a bad interviewer can spoil it all, Tom is great with Cliff. Im glad, he didnt ask all the "usual" questions. Cliff comes across as per usual as honest, open and genuine, Really enjoyed listening/watching.

Dear Cliff! I barely understand what they were talking about, I just mean they were talking about records. But it’s so good to see you and I’m so glad you’re in the right color to look good, and this simple plaid shirt is so good for you too !! I was wondering if we will meet this yet in life ever, sometime ??? I do not know. But it's also good to see you that way at least ...

It would be great if Cliff did a tour or at least a show of half-forgotten songs like "Joanna". There are lots of great songs to choose from. "Love Is The Strongest Emotion", "Little Mistreater", "Real As I Wanna Be", "Butterfly Kisses" etc., why not revive them?

It's really lovely to see Sir Cliff getting respect from a young interviewer. This wasn't always the case in the past. Yes. John Lennon certainly knew who else was 'cool', including Sir Cliff and it was lovely of him to recognize that. Lennon had great taste. Good on Sir Cliff for, through sometimes some incredible odds, is still gracious and amazing. He deserves every bit of respect he gets. Arohanui and kia kaha to him from New Zealand. 🙂❤👍🌷🌻🌸🌺🌿

Shame when asked to name some 'deep cuts', Cliff didn't elaborate on anything from his golden period (for me at least) with the Shads - 1958-64 especially. But I must admit 'We Don't Talk Anymore' merits special mention from his post-Shadows career.

Top interview. Cliff loves it when people are interested in his music. I would recommend several albums to check out the mains ones would be the three Bruce Welch produced I'm Nearly Famous, Every Face Tells A Story and Green Light and the ones Alan Tarney produced I'm No Hero, Wired For Sound and Always Guaranteed the most important early album was Me And My Shadows and of the fan favourites of this millenium are Somethings Goin' On, Soulcious and Rise Up. He didn't mention that he also lost Olivia Newton-John as a backing singer. He usually tells a funny story about her getting too much attention on stage so he put her behind a piano and then put the lid up when he came on stage so no one could see her. He did it for a laugh not to end her career. He gave he a regular spot on his TV show in 1971 and it was all uphill from there for her and she returned the favour when it came to singing Suddenly on the Xanadu soundtrack which is one of my all time favourite recordings.
