All-new 2023 Toyota Vios [Genting Hill Climb] - Improved Power to Weight Ratio | YS Khong Driving

- Many thanks to UnitedStar Corporation, our friendly Toyota dealer from Aman Suria who kindly let us have their demo car to check out on our favorite hill climb.
We already did a run up Gunung Raya in Langkawi, but as usual many of our viewers expressed a wish to see how the all-new Vios would perform up Genting.
This it panned out that we collected a brand-spanking new Vios G spec from UnitedStar Corporation amd we had Little Min as our guest in the car. He shares some of his views too on the car.

It's really about the driver, and a car as capacity/ instrument. I came here as soon as I've watched a car reviewer bringing the new vios up Genting. Though he was just reviewing the car on overall but it looked as if the car was struggling to go up the mountain. The weight shifting along the drives, cornering, car power shifts, acceleration timing and all, uncle YS made it all seem easy. Uncle YS can make lucky draw for fans to experience real driving skills!

This episode has the most dramas. Firstly, there was a fast-lane hogger Ford Ranger. At the second part, there was a TNGA Toyota Altis trying to chase YS after being overtaken. However, this Altis was not a bad guy and just being curious to attempt chasing. I can see YS is not happy that the TC cannot be turned off permanently.

Like YS said it must have both things , the instrument and the driver to achieve the max a car can perform ! Here you can see the new Vios has a good chassis and handling .
You can see YS is attempting those so called straight line through the turns , up and down hill with this car !
Chassis, suspension setup , kerb weight, tyres and brakes + of course a good driver 😅 are very important , don't you agree YS ?
But usually novice drivers will only brag about top speed and HP without really know the real driving 😂

for me, personally more enjoy watching uncle drive manual cars. love to see uncle's foot handling 3 pedals. this car looks regit on the road nice and I can see the uncle's face smiling when he enjoys taking corners.. but the passenger looks frightened when the uncle put more acceleration while cornering.
The passenger was okay, I think, hahaha. I am a bad passenger myself.

Overall pretty good for this new gen vios,the only thing that's not doing well is the backseat and support position,for taller guy sitting for long journey will feel uneasy
But at least more comfortable than previous generation Vios. This new Vios also have many features and better safety features than previous gen Vios

I have a suggestion that uncle YS can add a question like "will i buy one?" at the end of each video. That should give all the potential viewers a definite answers. However i think by doing so inevitably will cause conflict with some manufacturer eh?
I would buy one. I would buy many cars that I have tested. The key is always 'do I need one, or can I afford it, and will my wife let me.'

Hi Uncle YS, great video and smooth driving. but seems the car is below average on the power, accelerating seems quite struggle. how is it compare to current City/Almera with 100KG more weight?
BTW, the mountain in Langkawi is Gunung Raya (not Bunga Raya by mistake), I'm from Langkawi and its so grateful so see you stress test this car here.

using sealant provided ie need to get new tire later
Depends. If the tyre is not damaged, the sealant can be cleaned off and the tyre can be reused. Usually if a tyre has gone flat and has run while flat, it is not recommended to reuse.
The engine sound alot like myvi now but less whiney. Great driving as always sir!

I bought a sports car, a sports car that can carry things, and a sports car with four doors. The sports car that does not exceed RM 100,000 is you! This is the 2023 ViOS Grandtourismo 🎉😊🎉😊 The sports car does not have a spare tire, the head is low on the back and the back seats cannot be folded, which is normal to me. . Maybe Toyota will transform the Vios into a sports car.😮

If there's a more powerful version (like GR Yaris), it'll be a hit among young car enthusiasts! But Vios is already a popular car in most Asian markets.

Now that u drove all 3 (nissan almera, honda city (non-hev) and now vios) which of these 3 gives u more joy?
Each of them has its own character. The Almera for its torque, the Vios for its handling and the City for its fuel economy.
Nice ride but this was limiting the weight ratio with passengers I believe? Not sure. Would like to see the E spec variant up the hill too given the weight lighter and smaller wheel and of course this time with TC turn-off before take-off.
Mechanically the two are the same, and the OD of the two tyre sizes also should be similar, with the 17 inch wheels getting better overall grip and handling. The end result will be very similar plus or minus a couple of seconds.
Weight will always be a factor in any vehicle of similar capacity, i.e. B segment

The City had a bit more power, and the Vios felt more planted.
This new vios handles well compared to s70 and Honda city. New Mazda 2 and vios at the top in terms of ride and handling.
I thought all Vios TC Traction Control is auto on whenever u reach a certain speed. Normal for all prior Vios.
Nope, previous model can be switched off. The driver of the red Vios confirmed with me after the drive.
Even press and hold more than 5 seconds also will turn on again? In Hilux, when I press and hold more than 5 seconds the traction control off show in the MID and VSC off logo also light up. Maybe you can try press and hold around 5 seconds and check the TRC will turn on again or not.

I think the handling is very good compared to the older one.
Uncle ys. I m struggling in between s70 an d vios. I know interior s70 better. Is it the stablize of vios better ? I drove vios. I feel vios better but slower. Im oso worry on 3 cylinder s70. If 4 cylinder it will be happier.
Why worry about the engine weather got 3 or 4 cylinders man? Look at the technology nowadays they all have worked it out. The important thing is it okay for you or not depending on the car for your suitable use. My opinion S70 and Vios are similar handling but with different engine and interior.

I like both. Best would be Honda engine in the Vios.
Toyota Vios in Malaysia has a 1.5L 106PS engine.
But Toyota Yaris Ativ (same car) in Thailand has a 1.2L 94PS engine.
The Malaysia one should be a bit faster than the Thai one. The Thai one is super slow.
The 1.2 saves more fuel. In thailand, fuel costs nearly double of what it costs here, hence the choice of the 1.2 liter engine. Malaysia decided on the 1.5 liter because we are power hungry. 😀

Hi sir! Just curious what are your thought on vios 2023 vs the city facelift? Does the new vios measure up against the honda city or surpass it in terms of performance?
In terms of handling, the Vios is ahead. Power is a little less but they have lightened the Vios by quite a bit so it has a bit more get up and go. Overall I would say the two cars are quite evenly matched, so it comes down to brand preference.
I've heard a few reviewers complain regarding the quality of the steering wheel/front display and noise of the engine when driving compared to the older gen vios and the city 2023 face-lift. What are your thoughts personally?

They are very close when push gets to shove, and the new Vios has a slight edge due to the new platform construction.

Hello uncle, been watching ur videos for some time. I am currently in a dilemma of getting an X50 or Vios, have test driven both, am really impressed and favour the power of X50, but in terms of reliability, guess only toyota can defeat themselves. Actually I have booked vios but the waiting list is 5 months 😵and the power is far less impressed than the X50, and the x50 feels more premium than vios. Only reason of booking the vios was to have a peace of mind. Which would you pick, X50 premium or vios? Appreciate your input!
The X50 definitely has bigger power, and the interior space is a bit more. So it depends on your choice really. Of course the Vios would have better consumption and thus lower running costs. And reliability is a given.
All depends on what you want and need. If you can afford the X50, go for it. From your words, I can see you favour the X50.

@@novalfye007 yes, I decided to still go for vios, she'll be arriving next month, City is not even in my list tho haha, not a fan of its look, and interior feels much cheaper than the vios. I've never test drove any city so can't comment on the performance but I heard they are abt the same.. Personally I would suggest vios for its comfort, and peace of mind.
how many km on the car? it is not good to push the engine so hard if it has not reached the second oil change, or around 20k km
