Hear the Cuban jamming on multiple frequencies in your video? A very distinct jamming noise that only Cuba uses. And now they're jamming amateur radio operators on 40 meters and have been since the 11th of July, 2021.
@@lupacchinobros so I thought it was sent by HRO, but turns out it was a unit allocated to HRO for display/evaluation. It was one of a handful (perhaps three?) that, among other things, were used for FCC testing.
I thought your name sounded familiar, K4SWL. This radio just showed up on my feed and I am trying to find out more about its CW capabilities. Have you. Brought this out on an activation by any chance? In theory, this looks like a better fit for me then the 705, but I’d have a hard time displacing my KX2.
First of all, it's hard for *any* field radio to displace the KX2! I love the TX-500 and intend to buy one (the one in the video was on loan), but I'll never let go of the KX2. I have posted a number of videos using the TX-500 in CW. Check out my full review of the TX-500 which was based on a number of POTA activations and check out the embedded videos: swling.com/blog/2020/11/a-review-of-the-lab599-discovery-tx-500-qrp-transceiver/ Hopefully, this will help answer some of your questions! :) Cheers, Thomas
@@ThomasK4SWL thanks, I looked earlier and didn’t see those out there. I don’t see me replacing my KX2, that one is a keeper. But I am looking for other options :-)

I think Cuba Jams more than they actually broadcast their own programming.
@@ThomasK4SWL Yes hehe
Excellent vid! Can you adjust the bandwidth of the spectrum scope? What is the widest? Thanks
I need to check on that. I know you can adjust its sensitivity, I'm not sure about bandwidth.
another Q ...does the 599 have a illuminated display for night OPs?
Yes, the display is backlit and quite easy to read at night, Steve.
Thanks, Thomas! Darn it more reason to want this rig! I'm finding it hard to ignore and resist this rig!
@@goathiker yep. I find myself in the same predicament. For field ops, it hits a sweet spot.
Nice video! Keep them coming! Are you in the USA? How did you get yours so soon? Direct ordering from Russia?
And yes, I'm in the USA.
So who sent you the review model...ham radio outlet or 599? I preordered my radio and Im number 3 on the list. Im hoping they send them out soon.

Yes, I received it early because I'm evaluating it for review. I'm returning it soon, though.
@@ThomasK4SWL What a shame you have to return it.
@@VK2DMH you're telling me! I'm so tempted to purchase one. I need another QRP transceiver like I need a hole in the head! :)
