  • A few more bits and pieces around the layout and I'm very pleased that Lucas from the Thompson River Railfan channel was able to drop in for a short running session with Ryan and I. We have been trying to do this since the early days of the pandemic. Lucas shot a short video of his BCR M425 and caboose hauling a grain train while Ryan had his CP AC 6000CW running alongside. Please check out Lucas' video in the link below.
    Monday the 29th. Jan. was a warm day with sunny breaks so I also headed out for a train.

    Some excellent progress on the railway and lovely running too. Good to see the snow melting away. Very enjoyable watch this grey morning in the UK. Take care, all the best to you

      Thank you Jonathan. I have smoothed out a few kinks in the rails along with upgrading the track to nickel silver. I do seem to have developed an intermittent electrical gremlin along the way but I think it will sort itself out as I progress. It does feel good to have the snow melting but we are still in need of more in the watershed or we will face drought conditions again in the summer. We had a week of that cold damp gloomy gray weather last week but yesterday was warm, 12c. and no wind, it was lovely out. Cheers, David.

      Hello Steve. Yes, January was great for progress and the mood is still strong. I am working on more upgrades which I shall reveal in an upcoming video. The yard is much too small for the operations I would like to be running. I have just tested a full pulp mill rail service and that has resulted in every track in the yard being full and another train sitting on the main line waiting for yard space. I need a 200' X 80' barn lol. David.

      Yes, practicing what I preach. It's not without its problems though. A couple of times now I have run a loco into a block, stopped it and the tried to start again only to find it won't move. everything else works using the same controller but that one is dead. I leave it and come back later and it works fine! If/when it happens again I'll get my test equipment out and try to trace it.

      Hello Michael. Thank you, I am pleased with the yard, it seems to function as good as it looks. I do like to see other peoples perspective when they visit my layout, they always seem to see things differently. In this case I think it may just be that Lucas stands head and shoulder above me. I hope all is well in the valley. Regards, David.

      Hi Ray. Thank you, I have made some great progress on the track work. The pulp mill project has slowed as I figure out a few things. I don't think I should put the roof details on yet as I have some work inside that will require turning the building upside down. I only showed about 2/3 of that intermodal train, I figure it might have been two miles long. Cheers, David.

      Hello Mon. Yes, I had a burst of construction energy and got down to fixing some things that have been on the "to do" list for a while. I'm happy with it. We have been hauling containers double stacked for many years now. I would have thought your railways would have been on to that by now. I would love to see the Indian ones. They are not only double stacked but also run under electric wires. The pantographs on those locos are immense. Cheers, David.

    Hi David, that is some very neat looking track work you have carried out. Those points run on a nice diagonal. Looking forward to seeing them in action with some shunting. Are you running DCC now? I could swear I heard a diesel sound effect as your visitors were affecting operations. Sounded quite good. Good to see some snow on the ground as well, better late than never. As opposed to the Turkish bathhouse weather we are having. I swear I'm growing webbing between my toes. So much for the drought I was promised. They are forecasting a wet Winter now too. Bastards.

    • @trainsontuesday
      @trainsontuesday  8 місяців тому

      Hi Steven, thank you on the track work. The two main lines are separated by 15 scale feet O/C and the yard tracks down to 14'O/C. I'll try to remember to show the yard in action next update. It's still strictly DC but Ryan's loco, an Athearn has a DC sound built in. It seems intermittent but it does sound good, well done for noticing it. We had almost a foot of snow on the ground two weeks ago but it is almost gone now. We still need more. Glad I didn't decide to spend this winter in Aus. Chin up mate, at least your snake is loving it.

    Your yard improvements look great David. Nice to see the visiting trains too. What was on the back of the CN Intermodal?

    • @trainsontuesday
      @trainsontuesday  8 місяців тому

      Hi Les. Thank you, in regards to my yard being curved, we have precedent here with the Kamloops CP yard. CN on the other hand is over two miles long and straight as an arrow. I hope we will be seeing more visiting trains, I know Lucas is keen and Ryan always has been. The tail end loco on the intermodal train was one of about 175 ES44AC locos that CN bought second hand from CitiRail Corp. a couple of years ago. They look great in their grey and blue with yellow warning stripes. At least one is still running around with CitiRail printed on the side and someone has put a convincing Conrail logo on the side of one. I have seen both but no pictures or video as of yet.
