I haven’t used BX5 pro but I can tell you my jv35 works very well and I’m happy with it.

Did you find out what the strange white plastic brush/comb thing was for?

The brush is to clean off the whole metal filter and plastic bit that goes inside the clear cup that holds the dust . Dust often sticks to these parts, and some people prefer to brush that dust off (preferably outside the home) , instead of cleaning it with water .
