It was comforting to watch this because no one in my life relates to my experience so its difficult to talk about and feel heard. Thankful that I stumbled across your channel all those years ago.

Same here! I’ve seen many people go on this journey exploring Christianity at around the same time, but it just kept feeling like trying to force a square peg into a round hole for me. Recently came to the conclusion that I just can’t be a Christian. Came here to see whether Tom was still on this journey as well.

I had to fully clean the slate, so to speak and relearn the teachings of Jesus without western Christianity to actually feel a connection. It's so show-y and watered down to me. After YEARS of studying and feelings out different religions and teaching, I finally came to the conclusion that I am a follower of Jesus. But I do not resonate with the Christianity that we have here in the West. It almost seems like it's making a mockery of the real, raw truth of it all.

For a second I read that as weaponised Christianity, which you could probably argue fits the description in some cases! I agree with you though, I think understanding Jesus through his own words, rather than the religion that sprang up about him after his death is the ironically the truest way to follow the Christian path.

That’s because most Christian denominations here have gnostic beliefs which fulfills a scripture in revelation on how they will be many serpents teaching the word of God if you can’t say that, and search for the truth, then you don’t understand why Jesus called the truth, a narrow doorway, and very few will find it but of course, people like you already have satan up their ass, making the decisions for them. Such a pity the veil has been over almost everyone’s eyes for so long.

    • @Fairyfromthehollows

For instance, if I see across anywhere, I automatically know it’s not true Christians he died on the torture stake. See gnostic beliefs has a lot to do with symbolism. And you’ll find the same symbolism and old world religions.. quickly history has not been deleted for us completely so the truth was restored. Yeah, most false Christians are influenced by the gnostic belief in the churches this was prophesied in revelation that there will be many serpents teaching the word of God, but none of them has the truth. The truth is that, but it’s a narrow doorway hard to find just like Jesus said, unless you do your history and re-search you’ll never find the truth listening to those lining preachers. Instead of listening to them, why not do your own research and never take another person’s word for it

I think the Church (like every other religion), has changed the original texts and teaching to make it more "sell able" to the masses and provide an incentive to follow the actual teaching or otherwise something bad will happen to you. Tom, this video brought a lightness to my heart. I was initially turned on to new age spirituality, but also couldn’t get on board with the idea that I am God. Even if I can somehow unify completely with God, I can’t imagine the thought “I am God” can lead to a unity; it’s a beautiful setup to make the ego more dominant than ever. I’d rather be dancing and singing, looking up and thanking God than proclaiming he/she and I are one.
I’ve been a church music director at a United Methodist church for three years now, and I adore the community there. They do good work, and they love one another. I started to follow Christianity, but I couldn’t pretend that books like the Bhagavad Gita, or people like the Buddha were the devil pretending to be an angel. I knew in my heart that wasn’t correct.
You summed it up beautifully. I want to love God as much as possible, and I want a community that supports me in that quest. I hope that quest of yours proves to more fruitful than confusing. Sending love ❤️

You did not understand what is meant by the statement “ I am god”. When you truly, deeply understand this, your ego does not dominate. Your soul does. Ego only dominates when you feel there’s a hierarchy. The “new age” belief isn’t so new age. It’s the most ancient, intuitive knowledge that all ascended masters from all different cultures have talked about and realized. “Realizing” that you are one with EVERYTHING is not an ego trip. It’s the most humbling, most loving and connecting experience that you can ever have. You don’t “look up” or “look down” at anything. You just understand that everything, every degree, every experience, every being is created with equal value. ALL of this, ALL of us- it’s the inclusive and attractive force- combine and together IS god. Not you or me. ALL of us TOGETHER. The beingness is god. The experience of the flutter of bird wings is god. The ecstasy of birth and death is god- experience itself is god. Because experience/ life itself is LOVE. We think, love is what we feel when we just feel positive or when we love someone or a thing. But love is the nature of reality. When you genuinely love someone/thing, you love them as if they are a part of you. How can “god” love us and us not be a part of it? How can you look at a body and think the cells are separate?
We are god. But not in the way you’ve been interpreting this statement. Only through deep love and awareness you understand the true power, truth and value that is held in the words “I am God”.

@@kuriousQuing21 or we are all learning to become gods ourselves to keep God from being lonely. Learning that Love is the most important thing we can use. Fragments of God split to create more Gods. Love doesn’t work if there isn’t another. And you can try to say well no because God loves itself. No. We put the labels on the emotion and Love does not mean what you just said so you would have to find another word. Love is a connection. You could not experience Love if all you had was yourself. And why would you be selfish to hold all of that Love to yourself. That’s the whole point of God creating us when looking at in that aspect of non duality. Nothing else. God Is Lonely. Yes you can love Life. But something within your life causes you to love it. Nobody just loves life until they have a reason or have been shown why we should by God. Something caused God to feel Love. Creation.

    Hi Tom!
Thank you for having Steven Bancarz on your channel way back when. It was the catalyst that broke down my whole new age paradigm… I prayed “God, I need to know who you really are.” And I was sincere and humble in that I was saying, maybe I don’t know. I was not expecting the answer to be Jesus! But about 4-5 days after watching your video with Steven, I began to pray to God that He would save me. I began to become aware of the heavy weight of sin on my heart. The landscape of my heart felt like a dry parched land, and I just asked him to break me. I confessed him as Lord and He came!!! He came right into my room, in the spirit. He is the author of creation, the most powerful one. Everything is under his authority. I realized my soul was tiny compared to his mighty power and how desperately I needed him.
That same day, I threw out all my new age memorabilia and I haven’t looked back since! I’m not in a denomination but I believe we are called to be disciples of Jesus and to make disciples. I’ve baptized several women into Christ and have cast out demons and prayed for the sick and seen them healed. It’s been four beautiful years and though it’s not been without hardship, my soul is at peace with my God!
I have prayed for you Tom to have your own encounter with Christ. I believe it is coming. If you don’t know how to talk to him, get on your knees or lay on your face. Repent for every thing you’ve done that’s hurt the heart of God, the ways you’ve harmed yourself and others. Ask for forgiveness! If you are struggling with doubt (which it sounds like you may be a cerebral guy) ask Him to help and remember it’s in your HEART that you believe and confess. That’s where Christ comes to dwell in you and that’s how a true conversion happens. It’s a change of heart that only God can do. It is being born again. I pray he does this miracle in your life soon! God bless you.

I understand some of your issues - especially not having a revelatory encounter with Jesus that others seem to have. What convinced me and continues to convince me are the Lives of the Saints. In particular Saint Paisios of Mount Athos by Hieromonk Issac and also Saint Nektarios' life by Sotos Chondropoulos. Reading about their life, the numerous miracles, the humility and love is amazing to me. If it wasn't for the Saints who reflect the fruit of the ascetical and obedient life I don't think I would not be Orthodox, or Christian for that matter. I wish you well on your journey for Truth,

I can't follow anyone religion personally....
My mom supports me and my beliefs, and she understands why I believe what I believe but I guess the reason I'm writing this is to say that a lot of psychonauts definitely do have trouble expressing their religion in this modern society, especially where the majority of people now are Christian.... but what's even more crazy is that the people who are Christian don't even follow Christianity by the book.... so many people who are Christian are so quick to judge and say that every other religion is just saitan, and you need Jesus and this and that... and while I 1000% understand why people are the way they are. I just so wish that more Christians were accepting up other religions especially the ones that are very out there and hard to understand.... the one time I tried to open up to a friend of mine about my own religion and my own ideologies and beliefs he instantly labeled me as crazy and said that he would pray for me to find Jesus.... and almost makes me feel like they just pity me and they don't even listen to what I'm really saying if that makes sense... I don't know I don't even know why I'm writing this.... I love Christianity and their community as a whole as well as every other religion but i guess my message to all is just love others no matter what they believe in.... no matter who they.... or how they look just be kind to others because it's what you should morally do

Ask for forgiveness from Jesus and go and sin no more.

It's so funny that Tom says that how can you not agree with Jesus on be kind, tell the truth, etc. When the main reason we believe this is because Jesus and then his followers spread morality across the world. Before that there was no universally morality. It was just might makes right. If you had power, you dictated the rules and the oppressed followed. When you lost power, you were killed and another took power and dictated new rules.

The way I think about it is more like responsibility than morality. Lets try be scientific but spiritual at the same time by taking McKenna's ideas into account. If the only thing we can reasonably assess within the universe is that the universe seems to be an engine for generating complexity then chaos is the enemy of complexity. We are the products of this complexity at its peak therefor it is our duty to preserve this complexity by making sure animals don't go extinct, taking care of the planet and helping others because these will objectively preserve complexity. Chaos isn't "bad" it is simply the cloth from which complex patterns are cut

@iuliuspro I don't think you've thought this all the way through. Just for a couple of instances: The Greek philosophers were interested in and talking about universalist morality hundreds of years before Jesus was born, and since he was born into a Hellenized world there is a strong case to make that Jesus was very much influenced by the moral philosophy of the Greeks. Secondly, the idea that Christianity brought morality across the world just isn't true at all. The church kept us in the Dark Ages for an unnecessary 500 years or so, and then you have the Witch Hunts and the Inquisitions and the Crusades and the 100 Years War and the excommunication and murder of early scientists (Galileo and Bruno) and the systemized sxual asslt of millions of little boys across the globe that was unofficially condoned and officially covered up by the Church just to name a few of the gross violences and injustices committed by the Christian community over the years.

I have had a difficult relationship with Christianity. On the most part, Christianity itself has done nothing wrong, I haven't met any nasty people. But, I couldn't jell with it. I remember being a small lad and was going to see 'God' a painting, and.... it was a paining of a human being, whereas i thought I'd see aliens, or something 'special'. Bear in mind this is a 10 year old perspective. But, as I've got older, I have also realised that Christianity has institutionalised guilt as a virtue. I think most people have an issue with Christian fundamentalism, as do I. Again, Christianity has done nothing wrong. It is neutral. We make of it what we want.

  • @ilikestarsun

I watched your videos since you made psychedelic videos, I also grew up catholic, I was briefly into the psychedelic and new age stuff but almost right away noticed there was something deeper. The New Age takes things from esoteric traditions such as kabala and hinduism but cheery picks it, they do not really understand the Truth, they do not go deep because the ego doesnt like to go deep, because the ego starts to suffer, the more attachments you have the harder the pill is to swallow, so new age takes all the metaphysics and disregards the TEACHING of where it comes from. This happens alot with the pychadelic community also and usually its intertwined with New Age. I was introduced to Vedanta by a hare krishna monk who gave me the Bhagavad Gita and although im not a hare krishna, it was what I was looking for all that time that I knew the New Age wasnt diving into. Yoga, meditation, kundalini, chakras etc. all come from hinduism but rarely do you see someone in the New Age ever walk the path that Vedanta (and Jesus) tells us to walk. Im sure youve heard of Vedanta because I know youve visited india and you are friends with Dakota and I think Vishuddha Das, so it may not be unheard of for you but if you want to dive deeper into Vedanta I would like to say that it has put all of the dots together for me personally, it even made me understand who is Jesus and why he said what he said and what his teachings are. It puts all religions into perspective. And it does not sugar coat Truth like the New Age movement. In fact sometimes i think some New Age people are worse than some christians people (obviously depending on the specific person haha). Anyways I say this cuz I agree with everything you said and Ive subscribed since you used to talk about your ayahuasca trip, and even when I left the psychedelic community I still kept tabs on your videos cuz I genuinely wanted to know if your doing ok, the spiritual path can sometimes be difficult and I resonated with all the things you say. So anyways if your interested I would highly recommend reading the teachings of Saints and Sages who taught adveita vedanta just dont listen to influencers on social media about it, go straight to the source. That is my best advise I can give, go straight to the source, not social media, not youtube, not friends, straight to the source. I would recommend Satya Sai Baba, read any of his books, or Swami Sivananda or Yogananda. Satya Sai Baba is great because part of his mission is to dissimate the knowledge in a universal way, beyond religion, even the emblem to the Ashram has the symbols of all the major religions to show its universal teaching. I recommend those three because if you want to know what Vedanta is at its core coming from the purest channel it would be best to read from them directly. Vedanta is not New Age, and it is not a religion, and it is not for those who want to find “comfort” or “happiness” or “self help” on a material matter, it is for those who seek deeply in their hearts to know God.

If you like Daoism you have to read the Zhuangzhi/Chuang Tsu. Interestingly what got me to believe in the ressurcetion of Christ was a short gnostic text entitled, Treatise on the Ressurection. Ultimately religions are frameworks around inneffable but apparent, eminent truths. I like christianity because to me it best encapsulates the Priscia Theologia but I always recognise that words are like waves which the wind has formed. And I have the context of many other faiths, my favourites being Hermetic, Neoplatonic and Daoist theologies. The deepest truths are beyond conception and the conceit of a conciever. In humble faith is where God encounters us. Psalm 46 - "Be still and know I am God."

Religions are cool once you go back into their history. The interconnectedness of them has always been super interesting to me. Especially the flood bit, it’s seen in multiple religions. Religions are like language and evolve over time, us humans probably started with one religion then it splintered into cults that slowly became religions. I haven’t really looked into it but I believe that Judaism is a cult of Canaanite Religion that focused on the male god.

Even went in a relationship hoping I'd be on the right track this time. Then questions and doubts on the evangelical version of this fate came and starting looking into church fathers and orthodox Christianity. After which I had a sort of breakdown in my faith. Quit church, broke off the relationship and now I'm just looking for something solid to build on that is fair and square.

my question is then, and i mean this respectfully. Do you not think god is omniscient enough to see what has turned people away from ”the right” faith? Does he have no forgiveness to those who see 1000 different perceptions of “god” around him and decides to take the route of spreading peace?
but the ones killing women and children over a plot of land that was deemed holy by a man who interpreted his own message of god, but because he is from a “chosen people” that automatically makes him right?

    • @alexandrup1078
      @alexandrup1078 11 днів тому

@@gage7862 Before I answer I just want to say that I do not have all of the answers and I don't think that any human does. I think that some things are just left unknown.
I do believe that God knows everything. I would say that God is full of love and he does not punish people. Since God is perfect, I believe that his ways are also perfect. Things are the way that they are because he decided that this is what is best.
God gives everybody the freedom of choice to live however they want. To me "hell" is just a life without God. People who reject him just have to live with the consequences of not having him in their life.
I definitely think that God has the forgiveness in him. The idea of "believe in Jesus or burn in hell" just never sat right with me. The way I see it is that Jesus himself is God and that is why you need to have faith in him. How can you believe in God if you reject God?
In terms of the people who think that they are believing in something that is true when it may be wrong, well I do think that it is possible for God to have mercy on them. The bible mentions how the people who know the truth and reject it or behave in a way that goes against it will be held more accountable to their actions. In the beginning there were people living all kinds of lives and believing in all sorts of things and God was willing to let that ignorance slide. But then after Jesus rose from the dead, God felt that this would be enough proof for the world.
I would just say that if you read the words and understand the teachings and tried to follow them then you would live a better life. I feel like if you truly understood then you would not go around killing people over a piece of land. There are just so many scriptures explaining everything on how you should behave and I feel like the people doing horrible things either don't understand or just don't care. Even when Jesus was around preaching there were the Pharisees who were the religious leaders that knew the law better than anyone yet they still rejected Jesus out of pride and hate in their heart. Even after he rose from the dead they tried to cover it up. Imagine seeing that much proof and having the hate in your heart to do that.
I don't know it's not something that is easy to talk about. The way I look at it now in terms of the "right" faith is that there isn't anything in this faith which makes me feel like it is something wrong. I feel like all of the teachings of Jesus are reasonable and help you live a better life. I see the way that i lived before I believed and how I behaved and I much prefer how I act now. It has worked for me so far and I'm still learning. Even if all of this turns out to not be completely true then what have I lost by living this faith?
Just because you may believe in Jesus does not mean that you can behave any way you like and you are guaranteed to be "saved". Only God really knows what will happen to everyone.
If you read the stories in the new testament then you can see his mercy, like that story of the woman who cheated and everyone wanted to stone her but Jesus said let the person who is without sin throw the first stone and everyone left and he forgave her.
So I would just end with what I mentioned before. God knows what is best. Read the words and see if they resonate with you.

I have a genuine and not sure if you'll see this but have you ever considered reading the Quran. I'm certain it has a direct relationship with spirituality overall to where if you look at the core of psychedelics and the implications of removing the ego. Islam points to that aswell. Where one should remove the ego and focus on the origin. One creator. The start of creation. Idk it's just super FASCINATING and I found that it has given me so much peace to let go of this worlds stresses such as people's opinions. And you living your life for one goal only. To please your creator. I've also seen many psychedelic users. Not sure if you heart of bobby perspective but he used to do all these ayuwaska experiences too and the only path he found that solidified his purpose was Islam and reading the Quran. If you looking for some kind peace or direction. I highly recommend picking up the Quran and giving it a read. It'll open your mind. Because I feel like psychedelics is one thing right. It gives you the broad perspective of spirituality but what most psychonauts don't realize is. The psychedelics is one part of the puzzle. The other part is religion to solidify the purpose of existence. And I know you open minded looking for something more. I feel like the Quran is your next step. Just from my view. Anyway best wishes to you Tom. I've always enjoyed your content and seeing you grow❤
Edit I forgot to add. The reason I say Quran is the next step. Not saying you shouldn't open your mind to other scriptures but Muslims believe that it's the direct word of God. Just how's it's written aswell is miraculous if you researched it. The amount of inhuman writing patterns is just a touch of the Quran. And that the book was untouched. Compared to the revisions the bible had for example. But even the bible used to be in it's pure form and was also sent by the one creator. Since we Muslims believe all the books Torah bible Quran etc came from that one creator and along the lines was contaminated. The only preserved book is the Quran and no matter how many people try to break and burn it. Many people by the millions are memorizing it too by heart. We believe that we don't take Jesus as a god. But as one of the messangers and that's where differences come in. But overall. We stand by that we only worship the core. The origin of existence. And that's The true God Allah. The beings we see on psychedelics. Some Muslims believe them to be Jin. But no higher than the origin itself. It's impossible for the human mind to comprehend that creator. The one.
There's a chapter describing him too.
The one God. No partners. No one comparable to him and the most powerful. Idk I'm rambling at this point but if you can give the Quran a read. It'll open your mind up so much. Like I'm not even saying you should come to Islam but give it a chance. I wouldn't be recommending it if I wasn't confident in it's truth. And how the world so many reverts to Islam is happening around the world.
But anyway best wishes Tom ❤

Jesus didn't come to this earth to make a good person a bad person. He came here to make a dead person an alive one.
I find it rather sad that people associate belief with religion which has a lot of poor connotation to it.. Because truly being a godly person is having a relationship with god. When you have relationship with god through Jesus Christ, the workings of the holy spirit dwell in you and produce good works in you.
To all you psychedelic samaritans out there reading this, a culture that I used to partake in. You like to experiment with different substances that alter your state of being. Have you experimented with repentence, prayer, and Jesus? Because Jesus sure can alter your state of being, It happened to me and I never felt the same ever again in the most beautiful way. I feel the holy spirit physically when I pray. The god of the bible is a god of miracles.
There's plenty of near death experiences you can look into about people seeing jesus, and even seeing jesus in the material plane.
Why I love being a follower of Christ is because I don't need to find the answers to lifes questions anymore, because I can submit to him and his will and all the fruits of the holy spirit come as a result of that.

I respect where your at. I believe in god but i just dont feel too strongly about religion. I feel the influence of man has/will continue to taint the purity of what god is. Raised catholic then taken to christian churches as a child (none of which was my choice) and was agnostic the rest of the way until recently. As of 2018 I had been sick, just over 5 years now, with stomach issues + severe anxiety/depression, and came to peace with my mortality. I thought about death regularly. I tried not to think about it too much because of the love I have for my family. So, I started to have experiences with mushrooms and they really helped me. My anxiety and depression faded away, my love for life grew, and my stomach problems are no longer there. My mom took me to an apostle, last month for healing, a week after my trip that my stomach started showing improvement. She got upset I called him a shaman (which i believe he would be with his gifts) haha but I saw something when I was being healed. It was something Ive seen only after the passing of a family member, a white mist. I know that energy, ive felt it before. I do believe there is more to this existence than we can possibly understand and I hate to place a name on god. In deep meditation the voice that spoke back to me was feminine, it felt loving, nurturing, and was the first time I have ever really experienced such a thing. I feel that all living things are connected and to god as well. Being peace and love is all i can do to spread that feeling which I believe to be god. Being anything else to another soul whatever their religion, identity, etc I feel goes against what I know in my being. I remain spiritual but I cannot accept anything in religion that goes against what I feel. I dont feel my spiritual journey has come to an end and im also not looking for one. It will take me where im needed. Peace and love. Thank you for the great vids. Cheers!

Im jewish and i believe in jesus. From what i heard you are thinking in a very systematic state of mind. All systems and religions are controls by humans full of sins. The only human is clean from sin is jesus. Do not follow religion to not be part of a system. But follow he word of god and ask him for guidness

If only people listened to the mystics of their repsective religions instead of bashing their skulls square with dogma. We all have to find our own way to experience god.

I've been tempted to join a church for years, just for the community. But it feels wrong to me because I simply don't believe in it, and I spent a few years of my life trying. I don't know if I could live with that hypocrisy of participating in something I know I don't believe in.

Not identifying as a Christian does not negate the beauty of Jesus and what he stood for. God is above it all ultimately, thank you for sharing ❤

Science for the pragmatic utility of reality, Religion for navigating the human experience. I think there is no better means to find you own path than to go with what works for you without comprimising your authenticity for the sake of an external forces such as whatever other people are doing. Be painfully rigorous in your analysis, such as logical fallacies along side a painful level of self awareness and understanding of the human condition. armed with these 2 pillars you will find the way forward imo. love the video
