In Brazil, on the jungle warfare battalion, they shoot with full auto fals while riding speed boats. In the military police (not army), especially in Rio, they use lots of FALs in operations and ordinary use, because the gun is very reliable and have a pretty decent firepower for urban use.

There is so much about this rifle that feels way beyond its 1940s development. The fact that it is still prevalent today says a lot about how well it was made.

Different states have different laws but there are three types of machine guns that can be owned… transferable, which are legal for anyone that can legally own a firearm as long as their state allows it, and then the two remaining categories, pre-sample and post sample are available to dealers and manufacturers with the proper licensing, which is what I have. In my state, and with my licenses, I can legally own all three categories of machine guns.

Well, Boomer, the M16 platform works just fine. The FAL had TONS of reliability problems in Israel. The M16 does not. The L85 until its latest HK version was garbage. Ive never seen anyone hit by a 5.56mm protest that it wasn't powerful enough. Usually they just collapse and cough up blood and bile while they hemorrhage internally due to the round yawing and fragmenting. The 7.62 NATO on the other hand, simply punches through. If the military were allowed to use ballistic tip ammo 7.62 would be superior. Since we can't, that extra energy is wasted and used in punching through the house and schoolbus that's you target's backdrop. But I had an FAL. I hated it. It was incredibly heavy for a rapid fire weapon and was not as accurate as an AR10.
The FAL7.62 was also a South African Defence force issue during the 60s and 70s,on the Angolan border my shoulder turned blue from firing my weapon on automatic, it is very accurate but it needs to be kept clean, The SA defence force replaced the R1 with the Galil in the late 70s ,we obtained a license from Israel to manufacture the Galil locally,if I have to choose between the two it would be the R1 all day long!
My dad served in the Argentine Army back in the 80's and he always tells me about this time when he and other soldiers of his batallion were sent to a test field where they had the chance to test a new machine gun that the argentine army was developing (the FARA 83) and alongside this one, they also tested some ak-47 and Galil that were there. His conclusion was that the FN FAL was above all the guns the best by far and the Fara 83 might be a rightful succesor. Sadly the FARA project was canceled and never made it into service.

It definitely did! I leaned into it and had a stable stance but each round knocks you back and I could feel my center of gravity moving with each round. I thought about refilling it but wanted people to see the reality of this gun on full auto.
Many British use to say that one of the reasons they won every land battle in the Falklands War was that their well trained troops fired their SLRs accurately in semiauto only, while the wretched Argentinian conscripts fired long bursts of automatic fire with their FALs that just squandered ammo and hit nothing.
Beautiful rifle the FAl is the orginal black rifle. Iam in Canada and it was our main battle rifle after the Lee Enfield .303 British like other Common wealth countries. My older brother carried one in the military. I legally owned owned one for eighteen years it went from restricted like a handgun to prohibited, to banned in Canada. You used to be able to hunt deer with them. My Fal was a Indian made Ishapore, not quite as nice as a Belgian or Canadian made but was a solid rifle. This and the M14 are my favorites love that 7.62 ×51mm. In the eighteen years I owned I never shot anybody but the government never will trust you cause you may go sideways some day I guess.
At least in your country mass shootings rates are way lower than the US, and when i say lower, it is almost non existent. Some laws benefits individuals, but put in danger a lot of them. Not been able to own a powerfull gun could be frustating, but the benefits for the population is huge.

Some Special Forces also continue to use it with conjunction with the newer versions of the m4 platform, and some m16, also, by some police forces, althoug you'll see the use of the IMBEL IA2(5.56x45), another weapon made by Industria Nacional de Material Bélico(IMBEL), with the intenttion of mergin the m16 and Fal in one "modernized" firearm.
We now live in a world of plastic rifles, plastic pistols, magazines, plastic phones, plastic car parts... ☹ sometimes it is advantageous; often it is just cheap. Resources are becoming scarce.
They look very similar at distance to G3 (or AG3 here in norway). When i was in to conscription in 1999 we used AG3, then later when i staff sergeant in the home guard we went over to Hk416/417. The AG3 was a beast.
Working in the target dug outs I got hit in the shoulder by 7.62 round from fal...luckly it used most of its energy hitting the ground but still gave me a nice bruised shoulder....packs a punch....nice rifle...
Many English pirates were killed by that beautiful weapon. It works in the cold and dirt without problems, at least the FAL 7.62 model made in Argentina.

That's a sporterized version, the original version has a longer barrel, it was used by most of the Commonwealth countries during the 50-80's even some retained them in limited quantity...punches through half inch mild steel plate at 300 metres and 1.5' diameter trees of medium hardness...1 round to the knee cap will bring any 6'+, 200 lbs man to his knees crying for his mother i kid you nought.

I had a Fal carbine and no matter what I set the gas to, it would beat the crap outta me. I shoot 7mag no problems but that carbine was over gassed. I shoot a Fal full length rifle on the 2 setting and it's like shoot a M16.
The damage that this rifle cause in human body is massive! 5.56x45 mm OTAN is not so letal in comparison instead provides to the shooter more handling burst if its required
It definitely looks like I controlled it better in the video than it felt in real life. The FAL isn't too bad, but some of the shorter .308 machine guns I have posted about have literally knocked me backwards even when anticipating the recoil. I do my best, but sometimes the gun wins!

I don't think people give the FAL enough credit for how ergonomic it was for being a gun designed in the late 40s.

Does not like dust and sand, Israel and South Africa had issues with jamming when in dusty environments.

Can clearly see how powerful the recoil is on full auto. No wonder it seems optimised for semi automatic firing.
It’s a great and iconic firearm but it definitely rocks your world in full auto. I think the Brits were spot on with the creation of the SLR.
