- Bing Crosby and Gloria Jean perform "Meet the Sun Halfway" in If I Had My Way (1940). The ambulance that passes by and interrupts the proceedings is a harbinger that a tragedy has taken place which will set the plot in motion. The song is repeated at the end of the picture.
Gloria, fresh with youth, beautiful, and such an amazing voice! I love Bing's singing and comedy too! They made such a charming pair!

Thanks Jim Manley ... For finding these old songs from when I was a baby. I don't think we had a Radio until I was about three years old. There were 3 knobs one the volume, two the station knob and the third one just spun around and around and did nothing. There is a picture of that Radio on the Baublitz Page ... Thanks again Jim .... Marvelous and so gifted " precocious child" singing along with a great singer and composer , a little bit forgotten for both of them !...even though we are not so much to appreciate them, nowadays, surely we are in the awareness that two marvels are on the stage ! they currently would deserve to be much more considered today.....the best beyond the time..and Gloria jean was just fabulous into " Under pop" and her movies of her beginning .... so close Deanna Durbin i think...well, these were realy authentic talents, that still bring us true feelings....

This movie is on a Bing Crosby collection -- and features actor Rod Cameron in a small part as a construction crew member, and the youngest I've ever seen him! But this is such a cute duet, and a cheery sun-shiny song, performed by such amazing God-given talents: I just love it!

We heard this song tonight on a local Jazz station; my daughter was imagining Pinocchio or Donald Duck or Mickey Mouse dancing across the floor. She said it is a happy tune. I quite agree and totally smiled at her comment. She is 15 years old.

Paramount Studios musicals of this period were unusual in that they’d perform the same song more than once - presumably to increase the chances of it becoming popular, and making money through records and sheet music sales.

Was the singing of Gloria Jean sung by someone else?
I am a non-native speaker of English. And as I have listened to the song several times in order to understand it, I've grown fond of it. I've understood most of it, but there's still a verse that puzzles me: the one that mentions Lil' Abner and Daisy Mae. I've very recently learned that these are comic strip characters, but I can't figure out what Gloria (or Bing in a solo version) says about them. I will be grateful if someone can help me.
Thank you so much, Nicoley! The words " the way to win" were the missing parts of my puzzle. I looked up the lyrics of the song in a few sites of the web, but found out that all the strip characters were in all cases omitted. I had heard about Buck Rogers, Dick Tracy, naturally about Donald Duck, but with this song I came across Lil Abner, and his sweetheart, Daisy Mae, but "the way to win" which is now crystal clear to me, meant a really acoustic challenge. Thank you again.
