- This is the full version of the piece 'Afterlife' from my short film 'Story of a Sentry'. The original piece only contained the first 39 seconds but because so many people asked for it I decided to compose a full length version.
Therefore this piece isn't perfect; that would cost me some extra weeks. But for the sole purpose of listening, as opposed to supporting a project, I hope this version is good enough.

I was playing TF2 and there was this Engie that didn't upgrade his level 1 sentry. He was a fresh install so it was understandable.
When his sentry died, he just looked at the bits of metal it left and it just reminded me a lot of this song.

Even today I find myself playing this fantastic piece on piano alone in my room. Thanks soimon thank you very much
I played this music while playing TF2, since my fps was too low to play as my main, scout I went spy. I did all the trickstabs but then... I saw a level 1 BLU sentry and the engie left it so he could help his team push the payload. I couldn't sap the damn sentry because it reminded me of the SFM.
Moral of the Story: Do NOT play this Master piece while playing as Spy. Something like Glitch / Dubstep / Classic / Electro / etc. just do not play this eye tearing music which reminds you of that fateful event that happend to the poor level 1 sentry.

I already feel bad when I stab people as Spy. I know how frustrating it is to get killed by someone you didn't even see, but dang it I need to help my team out! If I don't sap that sentry, it's going to kill my friends!

He has had a place in the saxxy winner's hearts for carving the way for fellow SFM users. You were good son, real good. Maybe even the best. But cancer has taken it's toll on him and Mr. Iwata. May they both be in our hearts, as we cherish their work and cry a little inside as we remember the famous that have fallen this year. Kitty... Mr. Iwata... Robin Williams... They have all had their part in this world. Mr. Iwata was the man that saved gaming, Robin Williams made hits, and Kitty carved the way for SFM users. It's a true shame we've lost them all. We will miss them all. Dearly.

Not only do visuals give emotion but I think sound may impact more for emotion than anything and when this music was combined with the wonderful visuals there was a sonic boom of emotion, good job it's beautiful.

I thought everyone was making sarcastic comments until I realized "Afterlife" was the music title, not the story title.
Okay, seriously Soimon. I watched story of a sentry when you first put it up, I cried a manly tear. You're an incredible storyteller, given what you've done even here. I beg you to make something else, equally as incredible if you can, though I imagine it would be difficult to say the least.
This piece is glorious even in itself. I raise my glass to you (It's actually a can of Magners) and beseech thee, compose more glory.
Its incredible, thinking a small soundbite created for a SFM video would become something so euphoric sounding. This was expertly composed, and I pray you will do more pieces like this in the future.

The problem with sheet music is that if you transcribe this piece the easy way you end up with four chords in the main theme. But there are a lot of subtle violin melodies that add to the atmosphere as well, and those are not playable with only two hands. So right now I'm busy transcribing a piano solo version that captures the atmosphere of the entire orchestra and somehow manages to play three melodies simultaneously using only two hands. No idea how long that will take though :D

You murdered me! This was your evil all along! Making a emotionally moving story about an Engineer and his sentry who became like a son to him, for it to later die, and him along with it, reuniting in the afterlife, and than making this incredibly beautiful and sad song, so everyone that listened to would drown in their own tears!

laser boy If he did, he would have probably added 'performed by' next to ''arranged by''. As he would take the pride of the skill of being able *to play* this rather than being able *to create* this.
I usually start out improvising some chords on a real piano until I develop something interesting, then I move to my keyboard and improvise several layers on top of it. Then finally I finetune some notes/velocities on my computer. The initial song usually isn't playable with two hands (+ that I can't immediately reproduce the improvisations) but eventually I develop a piano solo version pretty much automatically while I'm playing for my own relaxation :P (PS: fellow Dutchman?)

I'm sorry dude. I know how it feels. I haven't lost a friend but I lost my dog recently. I'm 14 and he took care and protected me as a baby and was always happy. He got hit by a car. He had a big open wound on his leg and there isn't any vets nearby who could've helped him. Our neighbour had to put him down with a shotgun. He's now in a better place. Sometimes I even hear him bark every now and then... :'(
