I’m not native, but I am American and I live in north ga where the Cherokee language was spoken and I want to learn this Native American language to keep it alive. I wish the schools in north ga actually taught this language!

I am non-cherokee but I want to help revitalize this language. I'm only 17 but I am doing my best with limited resources. This video has given me many more to look into.

Every first nation / native American must listen to this lecture, regardless of their language.

My Grandmother's Father and Mother were both Cherokee Indian. I feel a deep connection to my Indian heritage and want to go deeper into that.

Ah im so glad i found this! Im cherokee and have been wating to learn the language for years. My grandma spoke it fluently but she passed and I was never super dedicated to talking about it with her sadly, and she lived far away

I am part Choctaw and 1/4 Cochimí, unfortunately there is no culture or language left within the Cochimí Nation, because of colonization from the Spanish, so I am learning basic conversation in Cherokee as well as learning Choctaw as a second language. Great video!!

Thanks for this presentation... you really don't realize how close we are to losing it completely. We've lost enough as a people...we need to keep it going. I am dedicated to the Cherokee life now and then. I'm 7/16 and not enrolled, but it doesn't make me less of a advocate for preserving our heritage.

Thank you so much for this video and live stream. I know this was done a few years ago but obviously, it continues to help people such as myself. My family and I live far away from most speakers, however, my sister and I plan to learn the best we can and also pass it on to our niece and children when we have them. Keep working hard at learning! People have saved and revived languages in the past, we can do it too!

Wow. Wish I found this lady years ago. So much shame in the past about not speaking cherokee properly. Now I am old and it is even harder. Plus I live far from my tribe so no one to speak cherokee with. And well I am enrolled but am light skinned, so even more shame about not looking indian enough, so how dare I aspire to speak my own language! My great grandpa was an official interpreter for the Cherokee Nation and I feel his spirit is trying to encourage me to learn. He was fluent in both Cherokee and English. Just like she said here one doesn't take away from the other. The Cherokee language is magical. I learned prayers and songs in Cherokee in my youth. They are deeply powerful and other people do get uncomfortable sometimes when they hear them. This is a good thing imo.

I've been digging in my ancestry and family history, I've done DNA to help, and I've found that Amadohiyi is my ancestor, and I'm currently learning about him and the culture, hoping to learn the language as well.
