- I get very angry at the awful drinking tube system designed by America that the Soviets ripped off to use on their masks.
In all fairness the American system is probably made with better quality parts and quality control, but regardless the system is flawed at the design level, and it makes me very angry even attempting to demonstrate it on camera.
This video will hopefully answer the question for people who want to know, why I prefer masks without drinking tubes, I've ordered a British army canteen and an Avon lid for it, so I can demonstrate the S10 and FM12, I hope that goes better than these masks.
A PMK flask was used in the video, masks demonstrated were the Soviet PMK, Czechoslovakian M10m and the American MCU-2AP.

My GP-7 can remove 3 out of the 5 easily, but the bottom two are different.

The proper use of the drinking tube requires you to blow into the tube to introduce air into the canteen. The pressure will force water into your mouth through the tube. You can also help by squeezing the canteen to force water into your mouth. I assume the Russian canteen works the same way as the US version.
It should but the Russian canteen haemorrhages water around the seal due to the quality of Soviet parts in the late 1980s.

Never managed to drink any single drop of anything through my GP-7v, I squeezed and pressed so hard that I managed to somehow make the rubber of the canteen fail and somehow break the mechanism...

How have you managed to date it anyway ? There's a bunch of numbers on the cheek of mine but I dunno which is the one I should read...

I never knew that drinking tubes even existed, interesting how people thought about hydration while gasmask is on even though it is flawed.
In theory they are a great idea and some masks do have good systems, my Avon canteen connector has arrived now so I can test my S10 etc with the hydration system.
The big problem with drinking tube connectors though is how quickly a lot of masks were rushed to take them, for example the American and Soviet systems would work far better if the canteen lid had a straw in it that went to the bottom of the bottle, that way you could suck the water out without holding the canteen upside down.

The Czech M10M has an extremely similar system but with a very hard to use plug on their plugs. You should try using one of the Czech canteens with the plug the mask comes with.
I have a Czech bottle cap, dunno if it will fit any of my canteens.
Russian on canteen was saying 0,75 litre that's pretty much it and nice video as usual.

I don't know if you were doing this for the PMK, (I can't vouch for the others) but to drink from it, you have to push the connector into the canteen adapter while sucking on the mouthpiece on the inside the mask to drink without problems. Feel free to correct me if you were doing that already, but yeah, it is a weird design
Read my pinned comment, I know that's technically how it's meant to work but the connections are really dodgy, half the time water flows around the tube not into it. The issue is as well, for the flow to work properly the bottle needs to be upside down, as the drinking straw doesn't go to the bottom of the canteen, while holding it upside down the connector will keep falling out.
Drinking straw help, sucking on the straw full create a vacuum so if you blow air into the canister for water the water will flow.

Shawn Bilka I got a GP-5 as well in Amazon, but it came with an Israeli filter.
Oddly enough commie Czechoslovakia managed to make a decent drinking tube system.

Here I have one question .. We all know that the water inside from the straw is not completely dried after use. After a long time, moss will grow... That kind of military gas mask How to deal with the remaining water in the drinking pipe after it is used.. How can the hole be cleaned if it is too small... Or everyone doesn't need to clean it up?... Just leave it?

Hey Liam i have my soviet mask with a camelback to connect to my tactical vest your right them little canteens aint worth the hassle.so i have camelback with 3ltrs of water on the vest,inside the vest i have a bivvy bag and an orange space blanket where the plates go the mask just hangs there ready for use anytime.The bottle holder on the vest i have a solar,wind up radio and 2-2way radio`s.

You still may get better results with an american canteen they tend to have better ade canteens
As mentioned in the description, I know it's better quality but it's still a bad design, I have my Avon drinking cap coming soon which should be far better.
Czech M10m, I have to push the mask hard to my face to be able to reach the straw.
The American canteens seal a lot better to the drinking tubes.

my shalon 4a1 has a drinking tube and I'm wondering if it's even safe to drink through.
It's safe to use but I'd advise spitting the water out a few times in case anything nasty is in the tube before actually drinking from it.

I've got an old Zivilschutzfilter and they look very similar to I think it's the Israeli gas mask. However on those ones they have a little bit on the right cheek. What is that?
Do you mean the mask? I'm pretty sure a filter doesn't have writing on the mask.
Weaponsandstuff93 Yes I meant the mask, the filter says Zivilschutfilter 68. The mask itself looks similar to the Israeli kind. However on my mask it's missing a bit on the cheek. It looks like some sort of exhale valve but I'm wondering if it's an Israeli mask or not.
No it's most likely a German civil defence mask from the 1950/60s, but you could have a random filter paired with a random mask.

I have both a M40 and a MSA millennium and both of the drinking tubes always rub against my lips and face. It’s one of my big pet peeves on the millennium the tube won’t swivel so I can’t move it
Why not use the Soviet canteen? Just wash it and good as new

So I've heard, you can just swap the filters around, the GP-9 is better in most ways ironically than the actual military mask.

The American system has a way better design. It has a rubber seal that the tube plugs into. It stays in place. I just bought a American canteen to test it.

I think that getting a masks for a drinking tube is kinda pointless. I know I'm never gonna use one, if I get a mask with a drinking tube, so I don't see the point.
That's my thoughts on them, they are a weak point in the mask if you have no intention of using it.
So are industrial ABEK-P filters essentially NBC filters? Can they protect against nerve agents such as VX?

Nuclear and Biological threads are stopped by the Particulate filter (P), chemical threats are stopped by a vapour filter, ABEK covers about 95%+ of normal chemical threats.
CT-12s are harder to find over here than FM-12s. The drinking tube gets in the way and annoys me. I really hate the drinking tube port on my Izzy M-15. I use a hose so the filter doesn't get in the way of my rifle, but the damn drinking port is on the right side and sticks out so far it screws up what would just about be as perfect a cheek weld as you could get with a mask. They did the same thing on the Shalon 4A1. WTF?
It's so it's easy to stick the thing in your mouth but yeah, CT12s are harder to find than FM12s anyway because they were made in smaller numbers for armed police/SWAT/Special forces etc who want a very basic but competent mask.
With both the S10 and FM12 you should be able to adjust the lever so the drinking tube is out of the way, you're meant to cut them to length as well, I hated the drinking tube on my S10 until I cut the end off, now it swings out better and is easier to grasp with my mouth.
I might trim it, but the way the FM-12 rotates out of the way it never really bothered me from the inside, but it does seem like an unnecessary potential ingress point. I'm tempted to cut off both ends and plug the holes and melt the rubber over on the ends for a good hermetic seal. As a civilian I'm never going to use the tube, and I'm critical of the military's (or AVON's) motivation to keep it in the design. I mean if you were in the Gulf War and seeking protection from well fires and needed hydration because you were holding position I could see it. If under attack with Chem/Bio agents it makes sense to displace rather than risk contamination from drinking. It’s like the US Military is fond of saying:” There’s the right way, the wrong way, and the Army way.” I’m sure that’s true of most militaries, but what do I know, I'm an Accountant?
I'd agree for the most part with you, I'm not a big fan of them due to as you say far more risk of contamination etc.
I have an Idea for a way to eat while in a gas mask, theres a box somewhere in the front of the mask that opens and when it closes it creates an airtight seal. There is another door on the inside that can be opened and then the food can be eaten but this wouldn't work in environments where the foodwould be contaminated if it came into contact with the air
To fit much in, itd have to be quite bulky
Why not just have liquid food in a canteen.
Forget about the food being contaminated, if your airtight chamber had to be opened to let food in, then contaminated air would enter as well. As soon as you opened the second stage to take a bite you'd be doomed.
Considering how long filters are supposed to last in contaminated areas, you could probably just suck it up and face the hunger. Thirst has a higher priority.

I got the exact same canteen but the rubber in it was rotted and hard a plastic so it wouldn't create a seal, do u know any canteens that have the same canteen nozzle/cap that the gp7 can attach to preferably a modern one
I'm pretty sure American canteens up until recently used this system.
I have a Czech canteen that and my m10m came with the gas mask canteen lid and it seals just fine

Late 80s, the PMK 1 masks are normally bad as they were made around the time of the collapse of the Soviet Union, similarly my GP-7 doesn't take filters properly because the GOST thread on it has been poorly machined.
